  1. Did you just read what I wrote directly above or are you a guy that "you know" just likes running with the crowd? I concluding myself it was a crap idea once informed of the UK power limitations and laws that prohibit you from reactionary protection of property with absolutely anything other than hand to hand combat. As I said, the preventative measures people advised were all taken on board.
  2. If pepper spray weren't illegal I would be going down that route. What I don't understand is why it's so laughable that someone is looking for non lethal ways to protect their property if necessary. The fact is, one day I will be at least attempted to have my stuff robbed and on that day I will not allow it to happen and having no non lethal ways to protect myself then someone is going to get seriously hurt, unfortunately, that is likely going to be myself more than the robber's'. The advice of the megaphone in particular and other preventative actions are all very useful!
  3. Nope. Your repetitive cos you repeat the same things and your irritating cos you're concomitantly repetitive with subtle allusion to moral and intellectual superiority! I currently know none, but I've been around the block.
  4. Likewise. You're irritating and repetitive. Must be hell. One thing doesn't have to have anything to do with the other. Why do you assume gangster? Most I've known are wannabe's and low IQ, not the worst person to deal with. In her regard I'm more concerned of random psycho's of which there are many out there, unarguably.
  5. Look, I just had a chip box and winch fitted to my trailer. £1200. So trailer alone is £6200.00 to replace. Cut open my van and you can theoretically get 15k worth of tools, not including 8k chipper for me to replace new. Unload and load time is 1 hour ish for 2 people. Not possible to unload and I feel safer with the stuff parked under my bedroom window than in a container. Trailer guys son is a tree surgeon. Had his shipping container cut into twice in the last 2 years. Carpenter working next door last month was telling me about how his new locks on his van cos he was recently cut into. My van and trailer are a beacon to thieves. The alternative is to go out in the middle of the night in my boxer shorts with my dick in my hand. Also, it can't hurt to have my pint size Mrs have something in the house if she is ever attacked. Add to that, numerous people saying they get case numbers over the phone when goods are reported stolen and I literally haven't seen a single police car in 2 months, let alone a police officer walking the streets. Pretty fucking simple. I'd rather get a year for shooting a thief with an air pistol than run out into the night and get my skull cracked, which is what will happen at some point if I don't think of preventative measures.
  6. No one. No enemies. Never have a problem.
  7. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OREGON-TECHNI-BLADE-YELLOW-6mm-205-pieces-professional-quality-strimmer-line/362066615217?epid=1805570915&hash=item544cda1bb1:g:saoAAOxyJX1TBylU Either way I'd get an attachment that uses these^^^ for 1 machine near the gravestones and thick grass and standard brush cutter blades for brambles etc not near graves in another machine or switch over heads. Can't you kill it in areas?
  8. Don't disagree with this at all but I do think this is not the same thing and that's why they are legal. I wouldn't want a multi loading crossbow for example if one existed as they are too lethal. Ideally a tazer or pepper spray but they are illegal also.
  9. No I wouldn't. I know what it can do! Not enough for a direct hit to the knee not to put you down in excruciating pain. And if you miss. You have 15 more shots. I don't care what anyone says. Hardcore drugs aside, no human can shake off the pain of a chipped knee cap or use that leg once it's chipped and this thing will crack a knee cap. That's all you have to do. Fire 16 shots at the legs and feet. Game over. Some people use these things to kill small game, rabbits etc. To do that you have to pierce bone or enter vital organs through skin and flesh. 3 or 4 or these even buried into the quad muscles will be any human being incapacitated unless on drugs, amphetamines particularly.
  10. Nope, but I have an exceptionally fine soon to be Mrs Forestboy and 1% of the population are clinically psychopathic and shit does happen. Not only to wrongins...
  11. Ah, so you would prefer she wasn't hunting around for scissors! And it's not fear for myself really. Or even fear at all. I like to weight up the pro's and cons on shitty situations that do happen.
  12. Nah. If you left your home and it was invaded are you seriously telling me you would rather you Mrs was shit scared, running round looking for stabbing objects or could access a high powered pellet gun with relative stopping power. I'll take my chances between the above minimal but absolutely dire possibility and that of armed police bursting into our house and shooting her for it.
  13. Dude - the particular pistol I'm buying fires pellets at 300mph and they penetrate through a can of spam wrapped in a pair of jeans. Believe me this thing will do serious damage
  14. A very good idea. Once got into trouble with the Mrs walking her home some 20+ years ago. Gang of lads kicked off with me after following me right onto her porch. Kicked off and the lad who put his hands round my neck ended up with a broken nose via a very obvious and warranted head butt. I had to pass them often and there was always the usual shit to deal with and numbers varied so was always nervous walking to and from her house at night. Put a skiing sock in 1 pocket and a can of tuna in the other just in case. You can't be arrested for walking around with a can of tuna and a skiing sock in different pockets. Always thought I was proper smart for that idea ? Yours is better! Still buying the pistol for home protection and fun. If you warn them to back away or you'll shoot and they persist it is a legal weapon used legally within the home.
  15. This thing is no toy. Pellets travel at 300 mph and will pierce a can of spam wrapped in a pair of jeans. You have 16 shots too. It'd pick this battle happily. 1 or 2 in the legs and any man is going to go down. I'd state simply leave or get ****d and if they had balls of absolute steel I'd start capping legs. I want it for home protection too and the Mrs and dog. Don't want the animal to get hurt trying to be a useful creature for once. Crossbow is crap. 1 shot then useless. Way too dangerous also. Machete is laughable. I'm not going to slice people limbs off for stealing my stuff. Just aint gonna happen. If they entered the home perhaps yeah but still 16 high velocity steel pellets are far more effective. Really think if a man was sent to prison now in the UK for shooting robbers in the legs with a legal air pistol people would think it was a joke, even for the UK.
  16. https://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/gamo-p-25 16 pellets per mag - blowback action - 450 feet per second Will do the job. Cheap too. I'm getting one.
  17. Lots of the bastards round my way ATM disc cutting into vans and waking neighbourhoods unloading in minutes. Nothing 1 man woken at 3am can do about 2-5 men with tools/ weapons ready to steal and fight. So.... since harsh language is practically illegal in this country now and these babies are NOT.... https://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/umarex-beretta-92fs-black-177 Was thinking bat in 1 hand in case they were very brave and came running and just aim low. These will hurt and pierce flesh. I wouldn't want to sacrifice a bollock for 2nd hand value tools.... Thoughts!
  18. There's top soil and there is top soil. It'll most definitely be fill soil. Lowest quality dirt there is,, and 6 inches.. he'll be lucky.
  19. Does things on the side and is also lazy. Wants the option but doesn't really take it. However, I'm planning a 4 day week from now on for myself on site so it does give us both flexibility to say ***k this is it's lashing it down on a day.
  20. Thanks mate. Well they can still have that and still be more productive taking 1 x 20 mins break and working 6 hours 40 mins than taking 20 mins in the morning, 45 mins at lunch and then being slow for 1 hour after and then 20 mins mid afternoon. We probably take 30 mins a day in 3 or 4 breaks. Still leaves 6 1/2 hours very productive productive work time compared to 6 hours and 40 mins less productive work time and later finish IMO and everyone else's, so far....
  21. Guys can break when they want. Literally, if someone's got their ass in and they are feeling of if they want 2 hours in the cab I appreciate the endeavour. Probably would have said go home but you get what I mean.
  22. OK so my current guy wants a 24 hour a week contract and we've agreed to terms. He probably wants to work mostly 5 days per week with December almost completely off but aside from that a commitment to 24 hours a week and all through the books. We're both happy. Previous full time guy wants to come back in spring on 32 hours a week contract on the books. Still discussing it. He wants more money. Might give him it but after 6 months cos I'm making some changes and I've got to be careful. So all of us like a get to the yard in time to get to work for 08.30, whatever time that may be, and work hell for leather till 15.30 or until the job finishes if it's definitely doable by 5 pm and time gets filed for taking later or picked up when finishing early. Usually they do better out of it than worse. Of course the philosophy is break when you want. Feeling crap... do what you've got to do to get through the day. Yes take fag breaks, just make them short and not often. Eat on the go and get GTFO once the place is tidy. Mostly done and out the door and home by 4pm, mostly. Is this legal? What happens if I want to take someone else on and they can't commit to it. I mean I totally understand if it's not for you kinda thing. It just works for us. Feel crap after a lunch anyway. Rather go home early and eat pretty much all evening. What's your thoughts on this?
  23. Yeah maybe. I'll go climbing with that dude and chat to him about occasionally doing big quotes together perhaps for big stuff. I convert about 75% of quotes but obv minimal portfolio for trees so will be lower but he'll only have to come to quote and advise me on durations etc. I'll all the actual admin. I'll be able to offer him an extremely good day rate and take a bit of loss. No doubt he'll want it though as it'll have to be a weekend.
  24. funny you mention it. I tied and re tied my 3 knot system with my eyes closed yesterday while I was arguing on here. I actually had already forgotten how to add the prussic to it though and had to re learn it again and then also did that eyes closed. I also learnt a double a double prussic rope. What I find is if the rope is the wrong way round or I have to tie the knot back to front or upside down or some factor is altered I screw it up. In this regard I am leaving a 5 meter rope in the bedroom to practice things from every conceivable angle.
  25. Yeah thanks Hairy. All brilliant info. I'll be slowly getting my gear together over the next couple of months and going back over this thread for exactly info like this.
