  1. Pretty sure you can ring ifor Williams up and give them the numbers and they tell you its got history on file they then charge a fiver plus vat to tell you the details. If there is no history on file from new they will give you this information for free.
  2. Recoil springs don't like oiling, the centre shaft and the hole in the rope rotor could have a bit of muck in them and causing unnecessary friction as it returns, if the rope rotor seems tight on the shaft just roll up a bit of sand paper and give the hole a tickle.
  3. Just make sure the worn out plastic bearing cage hasn't worn a rebate into the crankshaft. You may find that the spur sprockets have come from the factory off centre.
  4. Had a mate whos van was done, hes a shop fitter and took all his tools. No sign of damage to his doors and the police told him they probably used a jiggler key off ebay
  5. My local dealer had 6 in stock last week, the big landscape contractor in the area wanted one and was told they wont be getting any more in as they are bringing out the new model soon. He took all 6 of them saying the new ones are bound to be rubbish.
  6. Ive just checked and the red/orange vent isn't available separately and according to that post the grub screw is the correct repair.
  7. This is an old post, but exactly the same issue. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/49159-stihl-025-a.html The 025 and your Ms230 share the same main case apart from the 230 uses the new fuel and oil caps.
  8. that black grub screw should not be there, if memory serves me correct I think it should be the oil tank vent.
  9. Gently press down with a screwdriver where shown to hold the in place and then using another screwdriver just bend the opposite end downwards, you may have to have a few tries to get it right as its easy to over bend it.
  10. Also going by the damage to both screws in your picture I would reckon someone has been inside this carb before.
  11. The metering lever (the little arm that has the tiny spring underneath) looks far to high, if you put a flat edge like a rule across the carb body the lever should just touch the flat edge. I will just go and take a pic of what you should be doing.
  12. Have you taken the exhaust off yet and seen what sort of the condition the piston is in?
  13. Where did the saw come from? Sounds to me like its a new to you saw. If its a original ms230 carb it wont have springs on the H or L screws, it will have had limiter caps on and if these caps arnt in place some one else has had a fiddle with it before you.

  16. That's correct it does replace the 1303, but i suspect its a Chinese one that wont replace anything other than a void in the scrap bin. Buy genuine they are for peanuts nowadays and be sure of quality.
  17. sounds like the L needle needs a tweak and then the idle screw adjusting to compensate for the L adjustment.
  18. so after you've revved it up and taken your finger off the trigger the revs decrease and then it cuts out (dosnt return to idle) but it will start straight up again and idle perfect?
  19. Ebay it, it should do a couple of hundred quid.
