  1. Yeah sadly that did play a part. Im well aware of the decline in shipbuilding, I started my diving career on the Tyne and regularly was up at many of the yards in particular Swans doing hull swims etc post launch on various vessels including HMS Westminster, Northumberland, Fort George, BAS James Clark Ross etc etc the latter is now retired which sort of brings it home how long I’ve been at this crap. Anyway BAE systems and Babcocks are knocking a few out and Barrow does well out of the submarines etc, we can only hope thst one day a government with balls and a long term strategic vision puts legislation in place to make sure that stuff is built here. The bullshit and lies around the wind farms and renewables etc is infuriating when in reality virtually zero is made here worse still a hell of a lot is coming all the way from China. A lot of people slate the Americans but the likes of the Jones act is to be admired IMO.
  2. 🤷‍♂️Of course they were around but the numbers of apprenticeships and the incentives to train local Labour dropped massively after free movement. That is an undeniable fact and nothing to do whatsoever with what Andy said. I’m genuinely pleased your nephew succeeded. I witnessed the decline of the numbers Scottish lads for a particular firm we used for successive vessel mobs post free movement and heard it first hand off their manager, cheaper to hire welders as and when required on an ad hoc basis through an agency specifically dealing with Eastern Europe welders/platers etc etc rather than train people and offer them the benefits of a full time job and a career. Since Brexit I’ve witnessed an about turn and seen young lads starting to turn up once more. You might not like the Brexit result but I’d rather see what I’m seeing now than what I’ve watched happen previously.
  3. The benefits that Andy described J are a good enough start for me. Less dependence upon ready made cheap imported Labour and a drive to train or apprentice our youngsters, surely that is better than watching a locust type clearing out of various Eastern European countries skilled workers to benefit businesses at the expense of our own.
  4. Greater London Ulez expansion given go-ahead by Sadiq Khan APPLE.NEWS Sadiq Khan’s decision comes in the face of mass opposition Khan has the same attitude to consultations as the SNP it would seem, why bother wasting tax payers money if you are not going to listen to the people affected by your actions.
  5. Don’t blame Brexit for our economic woes WWW.TELEGRAPH.CO.UK On a range of metrics - from trade to inflation and the financial sector - the downsides of leaving the EU... Covid and the fools who bought into it and the insane measures taken to supposedly protect us blah blah blah would seem to have served us up far more of a shitstorm than the results of a democratic decision have.
  6. Andy you’d be better off talking to an oak beam bud.
  7. Did you used to come on here masquerading as a consultant by any chance !!!. An increase in wages as mentioned above and a proven return to training our own young people rather than a ready supply of cheap foreign Labour. I worked with many polish and other Eastern European guys over the past 10 or so years on vessel mobs/demobs and funnily enough they bemoaned the whole system and blamed it for the decline of their own home industries, the polish guys in particular many of whom came from soviet era state owned and supported trade schools looked upon the system as one of exploiting rather than nurturing skills etc.
  8. Or the thousands that were binned during covid.
  9. Totally ****************ed because it’s badly ran, overstaffed in all the wrong areas and supporting a ludicrous amount of 6 figure plus salaries. You really really should go and look at the scale of salaries being paid to the upper echelons of NHS management. Come back after you’ve done some research with a daily or even hourly figure to run the nhs and fund the astronomical waste that goes hand in hand with it. NHS trusts !!!! what a wonderful idea that turned out to be.
  10. Do some research rather than just repeating the question again and again and again and again. That’s what I’d do if no one could be arsed to take me on. It’s probably because you said it was irrelevant to you etc etc hence people treat it as such.
  11. Following a link earlier which I initially doubted but true enough, Google seems to be struggling a bit with certain searches 🤷‍♂️🤔 Moonbat, tin foil 🤪!!! Nope
  12. For someone whom claims it’s irrelevant you are pushing hard for people to do your research for you.
  13. Hospital flu cases up 10 times on last year amid 'tripledemic' warning, NHS England data shows APPLE.NEWS Ten times more people are in hospital with flu than this time last year, latest figures show. 🤔 Ten times apparently 😞really
  14. No shit !! you know my views on the last two years and the overwhelming majority of politicians and also individuals who supported it.
  15. It’s not only what they would have done it’s what they did do ie supported all measures and always demanded more 🤷‍♂️That chunk of acknowledgment seems to be sticking in your throat.
  16. Now there’s a true child vaccinating believers name I ain’t heard for a while. Define government incompetence during covid especially now we can see the measures implemented have had horrendous long term damaging Health, educational, financial, mental health issues etc etc without admitting those from other parties who wanted harsher longer more comprehensive restrictions etc etc would indeed have made matters even worse.
  17. Keir Starmer has totally misread the national mood on immigration – and risks embarrassing his party APPLE.NEWS There are electoral gains to be made for political leaders who are prepared to present a more... No he hasn’t.
  18. Why would I have forgotten anything 🤷‍♂️. The government didn’t vote for Brexit in case you hadn’t realised, it was we the people who did so in a democratic process. Covid measures implemented by the current government were 100% supported by all parties and as often as not those other parties demanded we go further for longer in all respects regards restrictions and support ie furlough and grants etc etc. The mugs who blindly swallowed and backed the covid bollocks led themselves into that farcical mess.
  19. A few of the covid warriors seem to be making a comeback Andy, Brexit Brexit, Brexit 🤷‍♂️It’s like the last couple of years self inflicted pain and madness and the resultant financial catastrophe seem to have been erased from certain memories.
  20. No Accountant was not to blame it was more a very well written ( not good for me but good for the agency and client) contract that caused the issues. 5 years of accounts submitted and passed off without problem, and taxes paid up to date etc, the instigator of the whole Hmrc investigation was believe it or not our beloved union the RMT £22 a month subs too 🤷‍♂️
  21. A lot of people really really don’t want to admit or even acknowledge the reaction to covid has put us well and truly in the shit. The comments such as killing granny now look absolutely bloody ridiculous Mark.
  22. Over 50s thread ?? I was never through or used an umbrella company
  23. Defra pays ‘eye watering’ £86.5m IR35 bill - Contractor & Business Weekly WWW.CONTRACTORWEEKLY.COM Defra has paid a total of £86.5m in backdated taxes to HMRC, after a lengthy investigation into historic... I’ve just come to the end of a 4 year Hmrc investigation that cost me £131k to resolve 🤮. If government departments can’t conform or pass the cest verification process what chance have normal contractors got.
  24. Wasn’t me milling today unfortunately but passed a tidy looking woodmizer in perfect milling weather knocking out what looked like a decent stack on the way up to Uig today, easy to forget how beautiful it can be up here, 14yrs since I last was up on Skye, thoroughly enjoyed the bimble up from Turiff today.
  25. 🤷‍♂️How do you manage to come to that conclusion??
