  1. Nice tools, shame a lot of good stuff ended up in crushers due to political gesturing. Mates got a Lithgow bolt action in 17hmr and rates it very highly. I do miss full bore semi auto if I’m honest. 22 rimfire semi whilst good cheap fun and a good training aid especially for the kids ain’t quite the same. I do a bit of PSG and Target Shotgun which is a good buzz, but tend to feel the aches the next day or so afterwards.
  2. Lithgow L1 and FAL ?? In what configuration ??. Pre Ban ?
  3. Musk and bezos will be in touch shortly
  4. Had a decent watts app chat with a very switched on work colleague and former Challenger commander ref reliability and performance of the challenger in the gulf war. His Challenger or wagon as he referred to it performed by all accounts very well, initial issues with filters were as he described it sorted by an intensive cleaning and swap out regime, They did indeed have overheating issues to start with but solved these by a combination of resorting to a tried and tested technique that the original rats would understand ie night moves if possible rather than midday etc. The other cure was a battlefield bodge that re routed the chilled air from the shell storage lockers to the engine compartment. I did ask about the engine pack swap stories, his take on that was the crews are only trained and able to do certain tasks in field and due to how quick they could do a routine pack swap it was easier and quicker to just pull the whole thing and pack it off to the REME units in the rear maintenance areas. The net result would have looked like engines being replaced but were in reality units being returned or swapped back in so to speak as required the reply when I asked about the falling apart stories was that it was total bollocks ?‍♂️. The lack of preparedness he did comment on and in his own words they were set up for Germany not the desert. He did mention the fact that the Challenger managed to obtain the longest ever tank on tank kill recorded.
  5. Not far off the mark bud 8k 3yrs ago ?
  6. Les dear oh dear there is indeed and there is also those whom antagonise for the sake of it. I’ve no idea what you think coded welders get paid or how much grit blasting and powder coating etc costs. Like mr Wright says I’ll take a couple at 2k a pop all day. The timber you get and cut by the way it’s not free, the eqpt you mill it with wasn’t free, time isn’t free it all has to be factored in. Wages and man hrs are probs biggest hit 2 men 500 for the fab work including site visit design measuring cutting drilling welding and factory mock up to check against site visit measurements ????. I days work to mill ,plane ,cut and fit every piece of timber to complete that staircase ?. Not a bloody chance. You are showing a total lack of understanding of metalwork and fabrication at the very least.
  7. Because I’m curious, I’m vat registered Les and can weld well enough to get most codings i can get steel probs same price as you, I’m sure I could source the Oak too but I know I could not get that down to 2k in a million years with mine and two other guys wages.
  8. Give me the breakdown of how you get that for 2K. Design,Materials, manufacturing ,man hrs and transportation/installation etc The description you used was Horrible Les, you do tend to blow very cold on anything anyone else does or posts. Be nice to see some of the stuff you do as like you say it’s all a matter of individual taste etc.
  9. Les I’m sure the guy whom built it won’t be too upset at those comments. He and his wife did exactly what they wanted and achieved the look they desired. The whole barn conversion annex/granny flat and outbuildings has taken him 3 years to complete, of which 2 were spent in a static caravan. He has self built and sold I think 5 properties whilst holding down a full time job in the last 25 years and is now in the enviable position of being mortgage free at 45 in a barn conversion that cost he reckoned 600k all in and is valued at 850-900k. So like I say I’m sure he won’t be too offended as I wasn’t ref criticism of the mrs headboard or Andy’s brother won’t be ref the comments about the table. As for 2K+ there is not a steel fabrication place in the land that will build that for you for that money.
  10. We used what was issued I’m afraid not what we would have liked . I’m long since out nowadays.
  11. Like I said it would not be my first pick if I had an unlimited choice. As for defending rifles from the 60s , hate to tell you but that’s what we had well into the 80s I did my basic at pirbright in 84 and did two tours of NI in the 80s with SLR. SA 80 when it first arrived at battalion level did indeed have faults but it was as I said sorted out by later upgrades. All this is documented and has been debated over many times now. You piss with the cock you have Not the one you want in the British Army bud as if you were in you will be aware of. There are 6 ex forces lads inc myself onboard the boat I’m working off at the moment 5 of which have used the A2 on active service, so a pretty good base from which to draw information.
  12. Indeed it is the Challenger 2 with life upgrades etc etc. SA80 has long since been sorted out. So much gossip and shit about regarding how bad it was back in the day and how wonderful the old SLR was etc. I did basic training with an SLR and by then they were worn out unreliable and woefully lacking in accuracy. My current rifles will all hold under 1 MOA easy, back then 2.5-3 was acceptable with an SLR. Getting the SA 80 especially once upgraded by H&K was a massive improvement for the guys on the ground carrying it, ive used both and know which I’d prefer. Mind you that’s not to say it would be my first choice of all the current NATO service rifles.
  13. No it wasn’t Andy whom was utterly offended by the I quote ranch style headboard. Regarding the RSJ legs etc to be honest the whole industrial and wood combo is very profitable right now. A mate of mine has just paid a bloody fortune for an rsj and oak staircase on a barn conversion.
  14. Yeah that headboard eh ?‍♂️. Mrs still loves it, end of day benefits of keeping her happy are far greater than appeasing the woodwork Meisters on here.
  15. Still here, currently bouncing around 100 miles NW of Shetland at the min.
  16. Hi Graham looking at approx 40, 4800x245x75 to be done. totally flexible with the profile as long as it works. DIY tongue and groove is the back up plan. Beams are actually in Inverness at the moment as it happens.
  17. Pal ??? what you mean is you like to hear stuff that you agree with. There are multiple other parts of the forum that deal exclusively with “tree stuff”. Regarding community whilst I’m not really into boasting in public I have done plenty for people during this period including supplying free logs and doing shop runs for those deemed vulnerable. Early on in the process before I drew my own conclusions I volunteered to be part of the response by DMT or Diver Medic Technicians to assist the NHS. Pal
  18. Oh Dear is one offended. im ever so sorry that the tone of debate is not to your liking, or along a line of thought that confirms with your own . Regarding Andy nope he has his opinions and I have mine, they often differ especially in respect to Scottish independence. 100 mile NW of Shetland in the Atlantic today sweet cheeks so no options to go outside and do stuff with wood. Other areas of the forum which I often use tend to be utilised for more technical and timber related issues, I always understood this part to contain much more robust debate. Especially from the likes of Mark ?‍♂️. I’m sure he’s a big boy and can fight his own battles. Next time have a cup of tea or something first eh, wake up and then reply to stuff that you may disagree with that way you won’t come across as being a grumpy easily offended bugger in the mornings. ?
  19. I disagree with that statement wholeheartedly. The lockdown will in my humble opinion turn out to be a total catastrophe long term. The Scottish government and SNP act only in the interest of the long term goals of which anyone living up here is well aware. The statistics of the virus up here with population and population density etc factored in do not make much different reading to anywhere else. The measures taken are way ott based on the numbers and still Sturgeon hangs onto the grip this gives her over everyday lives even to the extent of dictating at what age a grandchild can hug a grandparent.
  20. Sorry mark I forgot only yourself is wise to all that goes on around you. As you say it whizzed right over my head ? still looking eh lol. So the technology behind my phone is how you justify the statement ref experts then, probs a few potential gaps in that but if you are happy with that then fine ?. Within all civilised societies we tend to operate inside framework of freedoms of course some are limited by that same society otherwise we would be all running around doing WTF we all wanted. “Unsurprisingly whizzed etc”lol ? the implied superiority of intellect is beneath you.
  21. It’s not actually peer reviewed science Mark it’s a basic review of the statistical evidence past and present that leads me to most of my conclusions.
  22. Lol ? absolute utterly pretentious rubbish. How little you know me Mark. I cherish the freedoms available within the limits of a civilised society we have and utterly disagree with the lockdown for many reasons. Angry over little things ?????thats ripe coming from the most vehemently anti tory link posting corbynite zealot on this forum.
