  1. I just brought a few logs in so think it might happen
  2. I've thought before now about the saw dust and how best to use our dispose of it. I am not short of logs so don't want extra work to compress sawdust but thought about drying it, particularly noodles, to use as fire lighting material. The space needed/three bulk puts me off though. I end up composting what I can and binning the rest.
  3. I'd assume it's ok to have bar fitted so long as it's in the scabbard or chain not fitted, although bar off may be easier. I'd have it drained of fluids, including empty carb. Note my use of 'assume'. To avoid any chance of a problem the less it could, leak, smell, or look like a saw the better... So stick in a bin liner/plastic sack and then inside a holdall.
  4. I've just looked at the sample pages, they seem ok but a little simplistic. Best of luck.
  5. If the number of people that are asking for wood on here is an indicator then yes it'll be a bumper year. I had a total of 6 tipper loads of wood delivered (ARB waste) and have Been shifting it out to the back garden and out of sight before it grows legs. I've had several people ask if they could take some already.
  6. Unless the doors open outward.... All winter starring at the logs but a cold stove as it's a long walk around the house from the front door to get some 🤣
  7. I bought 3 loops of 14" semi chisel for my ms180 for the price of one Stihl chain. They were fine. One was slightly aggressive on first use, such that it managed to jam itself in some ash I was cutting so hard that I had to take the bar off the saw to free it with a good yank. One had some rakers so hard my Stihl file just skated over it. All 3 had quite a bit of stretch initially but Oregon and husky do for me too, and it soon slows down. They cut fine and lasted pretty well. Would I buy again? Yes, although the stories of snapped chains puts me off them on bigger saws. I've also seen husqvarna on sale at about the same price before so snap those up if seen. Iirc it was fr Jones with 20" loops of full chisel for my 365 at something like a tenner. I guess that is not the usual though. When looking for 15" full chisel 0.325 for my dolmakita 4300 I ended up buying. A husky or Oregon for....err... Not sure...15 quid maybe. I think that was because I couldn't find the right chain from rotatec at the time.. possibly they were out our possibly I just couldn't find it... Can't quite remember. I'd put a rotatec on it if I could get one cheap, but probably only if under a tenner as Oregon/husky pop up for not much more occasionally it seems.
  8. If it's only occasionally, and the op takes it steady I'd think the saw might pull 20", maybe use skip chain. The question is whether it's worth it as more cuts with the shorter bar may be as quick. Ie, what the saw can manage, and what the saw can usefully manage, aren't quite the same. Can you borrow a 20" bar and chain for a few hours ?
  9. Some of the tree surgeons round here (South London) refer to the thinner branch material, the stuff that gets left in lengths, as ' cord wood'. So possibly not just a SW term
  10. I got 4 tipper loads of oak, a 36" dbh tree, last week. Tree surgeon working a couple of streets away. He tips at mine and is back at the job site in a few minutes. He didn't ask for any payment but I gave him a little as thanks. Mainly he was just very pleased to drop it so close by. Round here a tree surgeon will earn far more than a firewood producer, plus they don't have the space to deal with it, so a handy and free to them tip site is a boon. If some of you guys want to process yourself and sell, or can sell green arb waste, good! Why don't you give the op a price, your number, let him know when you'll have something for him and what it'll be, instead of sarcasm or attitude?
  11. There are also grades of smokeless designed for item fires, and these will burn cooler and slower, needing lots of air, and leaving lots of ash. You may never had this by the sounds of it.
  12. Feel for you Cath, really do. There are going to be a lot of people in fuel poverty this winter and it's found to be grim if you're in that situation. If you're liner is 316 stainless it won't like smokeless. It needs to be the higher grade, 902?
  13. Smokeless coal is actually a petroleum product, so look at the oil price.
  14. It does need very good seasoning, smaller splits and 2 or 3 in the stove, and more air. There are plenty of other woods is take in preference of given the choice, I just happen to live in a bit of South London with an awful lot of oak trees.
  15. It varies for me but oddly my stacks are 2/3 oak currently. Lots around here and a couple of neighbours had several removed 2 years ago. I actually value the coni to mix with it.
  16. Exactly. It takes a few years to build the contacts but then it's good. Overflowing.. Yep... Other then splitting some I've not touched the coni yet and today one of my tree guys calls.... Working in the next street on a two day long large Oak removal. Ok... Kids in bed now so... I've got some work to do with the wheel barrow to make room!
  17. So the flue would be twin wall, and this would then be hidden inside a fake chimney breast. In which case the fake breast (aka, a silicone booby) can be constructed of wood and plaster board, making the running of cables easier. The twin wall would allow combustibles fairly close, but don't ignore the regs for the stove
  18. Eh? Dovre stove but you rang Stovax? Mistyped or...?
  19. When you say building a fireplace, what is there now and what do you want to end up with? A photo or sketch may help.
  20. I had my first load this week. Iirc my listing is a couple of years old but that's just the luck of the draw. Best of luck
  21. Probably about 3 cube. Only Conifer but it dries quickly and burns bright and warm. Splitting and stacking it will keep me warm too.
  22. Bit too dark for a photo but Jordan and his two colleagues just delivered a load and another should come tomorrow. All helps with the gas bills. As I said, when I saw the snow blowing about outside I thought of them....I was sat in the house at 23C and two stoves roaring! Thanks guys 👍
