  1. I always take my climbing rope or at least a throwline up with me, so I can pull climbing rope up. I would sooner lower myself from the basket than have to wait a long time to be got down.
  2. Morning all, Yet another fine day ahead. I had a problem with the leg sensors on my 2 yr old MEWP on Monday and had to ring CMC for advice. I have to say that the response from Pete Losely was excellent, so thumbs up for them.
  3. The trusty Fairey PTO winch on the Series 3 did the job today, with the tracked MEWP as a backup. Looks a bit like kindergarten alongside what some of you get up to but it keeps me active. Wardle pine winching over.mp4
  4. With my previous MEWP we often had two men in the basket, but with my new one it gives brilliant outreach, but no so good for two men's weight a long way out. I have done loads of rigging from my MEWPS, but sometimes you just have to cut and throw - even when proficient, rigging takes time to get the rope back up etc. Horses for courses I guess.
  5. Morning all, Another beautiful day. Not in Doug’s league, but winching over a large pine using 1975 Land Rover with PTO winch and tracked chipper helping. No electronics, yeah!
  6. That sounded like we we heading for a Dirty Harry one liner for a moment.
  7. Morning all, Frost on the windscreens to clear then hitch up and go. Another beautiful day. Enjoy and be safe.
  8. Morning all, Recovery day for me. After MEWP dismantling two sycamores with a BT cable on one side and a rusty small gas supply pipe crossing above a small river on the other, my arms need a rest. Had to pick it all off in little bits and throw it.
  9. Your ability to come up with these day after day never ceases to amaze me.
  10. Morning all, Off early for quieter traffic to my sister’s. MEWP dismantling sycamores. Will need all my fillings replacing after towing along the concrete A50.
  11. I work on the basis that they are paid normal hourly rates for any travelling to and from site. Not an employee's financial problem if I choose work at some distance away.
  12. I use a flat file for minor burrs. I have found that a larger bar with significant ridging can wear down more than one flat file to sort it properly. Don't all cringe - I have had success with very careful use of small angle grinder.
  13. Morning all, Lazyish day today, but working tomorrow.
  14. Morning all, Day started with dog crapping in the kitchen. MEWP today to crown raise a lime and trim side of stupidly tall conny hedge.
  15. Morning all, Another fine day ahead. Stay safe.
  16. Morning all, Beautiful blue sky again. Enjoyable climbing yesterday, recuperation today - harrowing some grassland and maybe repaint wife’s shed. Enjoy the weather.
  17. Morning all, Light frost and a glorious day ahead. Have a good un.
  18. Morning all, Nice daylight evenings ahead.
  19. Morning all, Yet another fine day looming. Clearing up copious scarifyings after yesterday’s attack on the lawn.
  20. I have recently added the flatbed with forks option. Proving really useful. I bought mine via Fresh Products but you can deal direct with Mucktruck. Built in Cornwall. WhatsApp Video 2025-02-03 at 14.50.36.mp4
  21. Sometimes I have to remind myself when I see a frailer older person that they were once a baby then a toddler, teenager, young adult etc. Time and tide wait for no man (or woman or person).
  22. I am 65 now, and knee replacement last November. Very grateful to have had a fantastic result from it. Lots of other joint aches too. Working in the day they ease off, just stiffen up in the evening. Use it or lose it. I use a good young lad for climbing jobs that are day long, as shoulders don't like a full day trying to pull branches through the crown then throw them over it to avoid getting hung up! Still happy to climb within my limits, as Mick implies groundie work is tough or tougher. If machinery can help I use it, have invested in a good tracked mewp and sub myself to a couple of other teams. Experience and cunning compensate for the ageing body, as does being able to choose what job you do on what day.
  23. Morning all, Drizzle going, sun coming. Garden work at home, moving woodchip with power barrow to borders. Oh, some aspects of that sound like work. Enjoy whatever you’re doing, unless it is working on a mixed pyracantha and blackthorn hedge with hand tools.
  24. Morning all, Another fine day it would appear. Enjoy
  25. Morning all, Mist already being burnt off by the sun, looking good. A day of epicormic removals today, as we spent yesterday on logs. Have a good day y’all.
