  1. Morning all, More clearing out of an elderly hoarder’s house with my wife. My loathing of tangled coat hangers has reached new levels. On a brighter note the mewp behaved itself yesterday. Have a good Sunday
  2. I did indeed Doug. Collected it on Thursday.Fault turned out to be a position sensor switch on an outrigger. Got a few jobs to try it out on first 🤞 I have to say the guys at CMC in Sussex have been very helpful.
  3. Morning all, Finishing a very small local job that I had to abandon when the mewp played up continuously, then maybe a quote for a regular customer. Have a good weekend.
  4. Morning all, Flu jab this morning, then some office work. Looking at a large ash with die back this afternoon. In the hedge between field and garden. Farmer wondered if we could push it over with a loadall. I explained that it was not a good idea to be standing next to the trunk doing a back cut while a machine pushes on it. Sounds like use the mewp to get crown off is a safer plan.
  5. Morning all, Early start. M40, M1 etc to fetch MEWP back from CMC dealer. It appears the intermittent problem was a position sensor switch one one of the outriggers. Sleep on.
  6. Morning all, A day on the ground for me, raking up. A bit of a rest after 3 days climbing. Weather looking good too.
  7. Morning all, Got piss wet through yesterday. Joints aching today. Dry this morning then rain this afternoon. Better get the laurel hedge reduction done by dinner time then. On the plus side yesterday's wet chainsaw trousers are now dry and warm, having sat on the boiler overnight.
  8. Morning all, You have my sympathy Pete, I find it hard enough avoiding all the woke issues when I speak to my three hardworking offspring. Rain likely, so of course it’s a conifer dismantle today, but not massive. Fired up the wood boiler for the season yesterday.
  9. I use Chains and Lifting Tackle Ltd for both my MEWP and climbing/lowering kit. They are on the Fenton Industrial estate. 01782 - 747400
  10. Morning all, Rain due soon. More clearing out of old lady’s house today. Turns out she was quite a hoarder.
  11. Two day copper beech dismantle this week. Younger lads in a bigger team would have done it in a day. Not overly big, but over a couple of tidy gardens, and nothing must land next door. Tree was growing in a raised border with a rickety brick wall around the border. Terms of quote were that we could not guarantee no damage to wall, and customer was ok with this/their problem etc. Day 1 went well, day two got the sticks off, then felled the trunk onto a protective layer of pallets, short sleepers, dumpy bags to power of N. I did not fancy using a 36 inch bar up the tree to nibble away at the large knuckle where the main trunk sent out secondary stems. All was fine until near the end of the clean up where we found the pallets had transmitted enough force to crack some Indian stone slabs. Grrr! Fortunately Pete the builder who uses a bit of my yard is able to rectify the damage, and customer still happy nil went next door. Learning curve: Put old tyres under the pallets to cushion the force.
  12. Morning all, Local woodchip delivery first, then helping wife clearing out the house of an elderly lady who is now in a home. Have a good weekend.
  13. All I can say before commiting is Hire one for a week or two first to see if you both really like the lifestyle you’ll be buying into. A neighbour spent nearly 50k on one, used it a couple of times then sold it at a great loss ☹️ Agreed entirely. We did spend several years a long time ago with touring caravans and three young children 😂. It was quite interesting today, got some ideas of what we like and what we don’t.
  14. Morning all, Going to the NEC today to look at camper and. Wife thinks she wants one. At least I can recover after 2 days proper climbing! Happy Friday
  15. Morning all, Back to yesterday’s beech to get the sticks off and trunk down. Best of luck with your decision making and job hunting Pete.
  16. Morning all, Dark outside. Beech dismantle today, not overly big, but in a tight and delicate garden. We'll be taking it steady. No other option anyway, being a geriatric. Have a good day.
  17. Morning all, Hedges today, nearly done all the regular hedges for the year now. Stay safe
  18. Morning all, Mist and drizzle here. Lazy start, taking the remaining crown off a leaning dead oak in a woodland garden, then dropping trunk and ringing up. Pricing up a large beech dismantle later.
  19. Morning all, Nice bright day here. Got to cut down and rake up a long strip of wild meadow flowers at home. Have persuaded my wife to help, as they were her project. Think we’ll use long reach cordless hedge trimmers to start then strim after. Happy Sunday
  20. Morning all, Taking it easy today, low grade man flu. Have a good weekend.
  21. Morning all, Lazy start then heading home. Back to work soon. Happy Friday.
  22. Morning all, Going back to Glasgow today, home tomorrow. Just waiting for the ferry at present. It is so beautiful up here, have really enjoyed it.
  23. Morning all, Had a really productive day yesterday. Felled a row of conifers, dissecting round a climbing rose, then used branches and three trunks to make a trellis for it. Crown cleaned a lime. Not sure about today, maybe rain, maybe get more done. Stay safe all.
  24. Morning all, Weather ok today, so can get some planned work done for our friends. Amazingly none or their trees suffered. The last 12 miles or so along the Ardnamurchan peninsula had a massive amount of storm damage. To the extent I would think it would be more efficient to accept the BT cables being broken to allow tree clearance to be faster, rather than trying to work round them.
  25. Just approaching Glencoe Pete, then up to Ardnamurchan.
