  1. Morning all, Nice and daylight at 06:45. Wonderful. Dry day here, off to take out some hedge stumps with Mr Bob Cat. Then Loler on the MEWP this afternoon. Stay safe all

Now you mention it, looks like that to me. Presumably his long rope snapped and his short strop saved him from coming down to ground - still must have got some nasty injuries being thrown around like a rag doll. The timing of the shout would also fit with realising his top rope was still attached.
  3. Morning all, Dry here. Another half day dismantling fallen tree near home, then final appointment with surgeon about my recent Dupytrens surgery....but now I tell him the painful carpal tunnel syndrome has set in and can he fix that please🤣. Nobody ever says getting older is any fun.
  4. Morning all, Frosty and blue sky here. Another height top trim with the mewp today.
  5. Morning all, Rain +/- light snow forecast. Meant to be using MEWP today to trim tall conifer hedge. Maybe/maybenot for Maybelateron
  6. Morning all, Rain and sleet here. Was planning a rest day anyway, just as well as after two half days sawing on the ground I think my shoulder would like a break.
  7. Hope whatever path you choose from here works out well for you👍
  8. Good afternoon all, Got so excited to be back in the saddle I forgot to sign in this am. Been and done another half day on large fallen tree up the lane.
  9. Morning all, Overcast but dry here. Going just up the lane to big fallen chestnut in a field. Cut into log lengths, chip or make bonfire pile with brash. Go home if weather changes, go to butty van along road if stays good. What's not to like?
  10. Morning all, Frost lifting, finishing second coffee then off to small local job, staying on the ground today. Shoulder/collarbone doing amazingly well. 😀 Have fun
  11. Morning all, Blue sky here, good forecast for the day. Taking the MEWP to neighbour to sort some slipped tiles. Big tall roof. Might even get my lawn mown, as needs it. Thank goodness for steering wheel knobs! Have a good day all
  12. Morning all, Rain on frost here. Lazy day.
  13. Morning all, Lovely sunny day here. Physio today started with getting dressed without help😀 Then helping neighbour with a small job, dragging brash with one arm. Then use hydrostatic tractor with knob on steering wheel to load more logs for the boiler and bring them up to the house. All one handed. Have a good weekend all.
  14. Morning all, Not a bad day here, up to date on the office work now😂. Have fun and stay safe.
  15. Older Iveco Daily will have a chassis in better condition than a Transit. Could believe a cheap option.
  16. More info needed really. You can quickly fill a chip box on the back of a double cab 4x4, or you can put shedloads more in a box on a 3.5 ton tipper - that's not to say it would still be under 3.5 ton once loaded. WHat sort of work will you be doing, what sort of site access, carrying people and lots of tools etc?
  17. Same in north staffs. Evening all, very late "start". Bruising and swelling today confirms undisplaced fracture of collarbone. Hey ho, not all that bad I reckon I will be on clean up duties soon. You can rake with one hand. Never say die.
  18. Yep. Using a combiladder yesterday to prune 3 small maples with secateurs and loppers. Was on a flower border that was firm, we were not even leaving footprints, ground was surprisingly firm. The one pair of feet was on tarmac and the other pair, the ones with the spreader bat across them. I was just finishing that section of the crown, not even leaning out in any direction, when in horrible slo mo I realised the spreader bar was sinking in on one side, and I knew I would have a fall. My feet were about 7 feet above ground. I grabbed a branch that I knew would not take my weight but it did pull me sideways a bit, but not enough to avoid falling onto the ladder. My shins hit it that hard I bent one of the side rails a bit and it is now distorted ie scrap. I fell to my left onto the soil and banged my left shoulder quite hard. Nothing (of me) broken, just very limited shoulder movement, bruised shins and various muscles pulled. I have always said ladders just want to throw you off. Rope and harness or MEWP any day please. Could have been so much worse so easily. Hopefully back at work next week. Stay safe everyone. Thanks for asking Doug.
  19. And a good time to try and build up some kit of your own.
  20. (It's still) Morning, Chucking it down here. Late getting up, nursing a few bruises and a painful shoulder for a day or two.
  21. Morning all, Not bad here, looking wetter later in week. Picked up a nice gap filler job yesterday - existing customer, large Horse Chestnut tore itself to pieces, all on the ground. 700 metres as the crow flies from my place, perfect for working around the weather on iffy days😀
  22. Morning all, Dry today and tomorrow then back to persistent precipitation. Carpe diem x 2 it is then
  23. Morning all, My wife has been away for 2 nights visiting our daughter. Our choc lab normally gets on her blanket on the sofa next to my wife in the evening. Last night she stayed on her day bed next to the sofa and took a lot of persuading to get on the sofa with me. But then she was perfectly happy to get on her other blanky on (top of) the bed next to me. Stayed in bed till 09:15 this morning. Lashed it down all night.
  24. A couple of weeks ago when we had a lot of winds but not much rain (here anyway) the ground started to dry out quite well. Yesterday I positioned on of my ride on mowers on the lawn where I could work on it (lawn higher than adjacent drive) I was shocked to see how sodden the ground is again. By the time I had finished mauling the out front decl off then back on the ground was really churned up. The conditions are limiting what jobs we can do as we are 95% domestic work and people don't want their lawns ruined by footfall.
