  1. Morning all, Lazy start today. Going with the bloke who does my welding repairs etc, to straighten a metal bollard that argued with my team trailer 2 days ago. Then back to straighten minor cosmetic damage to trailer. I had hoped to use the tractor mounted hedgecutter today, but the field is so waterlogged I would just end up winching myself out several times.💩 No doubt a drought is on the way, and we will be told the reservoirs are low becomes it was the wrong type of rain in winter, nothing to do with leaking pipes under roads etc🤣
  2. Morning all, Drizzle here. Chipping a pile of hawthorn from yesterday's reduction. What joy.
  3. Morning all, Reducing awkward hawthorn hedge today, using the mewp. Checked it for birds yesterday - zilch. Why climb a big gnarly hawthorn when you can use mewp and polesaw? I'll still be digging bits out of my hands this evening though.
  4. Morning all, Bright and dry here. Conifer trimming today. Have fun.
  5. Signed. 4.5 tons seems a bit random, when you look at the common vehicle weights from manufacturers, eg Iveco Daily at 5.2 or 6.something tonnes, likewise Izuzu et al. Do we not need the manufacturers to put out a 4.5 tonne gross model, or push for a higher threshold than 4.5T for O licences?
  6. But (my understanding is) that they actually run on a 4 stroke cycle and have sort of valves. Hence why they sound slower revving. If someone wiser can explain otherwise please do. This was explained to me by my local Stihl dealer.
  7. Morning all, Managed to extract a lot of horse chestnut from muddy site yesterday, including taking splitter into field tp make the rings easier to move. Then thought I would give the old series 3 Land Rover a run to a quote 5 miles away. Bloody stiff gear change at long arm reach hurt my shoulder, whereas a day's work did not🙈
  8. Morning all, Late start - the rain forecast has not appeared. Will start trying to extract large rings form soft muddy field, up greasy muddy track.
  9. I thinks that's pretty impressive for a first time customer job. Haven't got a clue about what to charge.
  10. Morning all, Dry and misty here. Mixture of small jobs today.
  11. Cats and dogs for the morning, maybe a brief respite from it after lunch. Book, pottering in sheds, maybe a bit of time on local large trunk on ground. Stay dry.
  12. As one of my local friendly competitors said: "Now you've got an 18m mewp, do you know what you'll be needing?" "No" I replied, "you'd better tell me". "A 21 metre mewp" came the reply😆
  13. You could do worse than the CMC S18F. I have had mine for a year now and very pleased with it. Excellent outreach, but only one man for full outreach.
  14. Morning all, Dry here today but tomorrow looks like staying indoors time. Hawthorn hedge reduction today before the birds get busy in it. Stay safe have fun
  15. Morning all, Lazy start for a long weekend away to see our daughter. Forecast even looking ok for next Monday Tuesday, miracles never cease.
  16. Morning all, Dry again here!! A day of pruning a mixture of woody shrubs and assorted trees today.
  17. Morning all, Nice and daylight at 06:45. Wonderful. Dry day here, off to take out some hedge stumps with Mr Bob Cat. Then Loler on the MEWP this afternoon. Stay safe all

Now you mention it, looks like that to me. Presumably his long rope snapped and his short strop saved him from coming down to ground - still must have got some nasty injuries being thrown around like a rag doll. The timing of the shout would also fit with realising his top rope was still attached.
  19. Morning all, Dry here. Another half day dismantling fallen tree near home, then final appointment with surgeon about my recent Dupytrens surgery....but now I tell him the painful carpal tunnel syndrome has set in and can he fix that please🤣. Nobody ever says getting older is any fun.
  20. Morning all, Frosty and blue sky here. Another height top trim with the mewp today.
  21. Morning all, Rain +/- light snow forecast. Meant to be using MEWP today to trim tall conifer hedge. Maybe/maybenot for Maybelateron
  22. Morning all, Rain and sleet here. Was planning a rest day anyway, just as well as after two half days sawing on the ground I think my shoulder would like a break.
  23. Hope whatever path you choose from here works out well for you👍
