  1. Morning all, Dry day here and more walking to do. Only 9 days until I can go back on the road now😀. Be good, have fun.
  2. Morning all, Mild and dry here, ideal for a bit more walking. Not preaching at all Doug. Hope the memory settles down soon for you. We need reminding about the nature of our work, so we don't get complacent. I love it when customers realise how much they have underestimated disposal of arisings.
  3. I used to pull them out by hand without gloves in fact, and only stopped doing this when my wife said my hands were too rough.
  4. Morning all, Nice and dry here, on second big mug of coffee, freshly ground. Is anyone else familiar with gardeners being know as scratchers by tree surgeons? I assume it is because a lot of them just scratch the surface of things and when the wheelie bin is full give up. Not all of them of course, but it does seem that way sometimes. Have a good weekend.
  5. Heavy duty flail, followed by glyphosate when the tender new shoots appear in Spring. Or pigs as previously suggested. But loppers is only for a serious masochist, surely. May as well try nail scissors.
  6. Morning all, Grey sky but dry here. More walking for me today, soon be back on the road and starting light work. Have a good weekend.
  7. Sadly you are between rock and a hard place. What Jules says is absolutely correct, no matter how frustrating it is for you. The only real option is to appeal to the secretary of state. I suppose you could take the approach of notifying the local council/tree officer that the owner of the trees will hold them legally responsible for any adverse event due to their tardiness. This is perhaps a more realistic option if you are the owner of the trees, whereas if you are a local tree surgeon it won't help your long term working relationship.
  8. Morning all, Dry here, off to assess a tree (from the ground). Yippee. Have a good day all.
  9. Morning all and happy birthday ShaunPaul, you young man. A balmy 6 degrees here and dry. First day in 4 weeks I am wearing work clothes, time for a bit of gentle pottering in the sheds etc
  10. My late mother in law had an endoscopic repair of hers. I shall go to my appointment.
  11. Just got back from my rehab walk and opened the post. I have an appointment for ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm 😂🙈
  12. How long post op is your father now? What did he have done to his tib and fib? I am 27 days now. Yesterday was the longest walk so far at 3km outside, measured on google maps. My phone says I did 8,500 steps including in the house and it seems to think this is 4.8km. I will do a bit less today to allow some recovery. Target from physio is 10,000 steps daily by 6-8 weeks post op. On one of my walks last week I met a chap who had an ankle replaced at the beginning of October. Last week was his first day driving, sounds harder than knee recovery to me. Hope you dad goes on OK.
  13. Morning all, Nice dry day here. More walking to do. Have a good day y'all.
  14. As a 65 and over I can add to the list. After my recent knee replacement under spinal anaesthetic with iv sedation I went into retention of urine, as the saddle area is the last to get sensation/control back. Bladder was distended up to my umbilicus. Fortunately I managed to solve it managed to solve the problem by prolonged pressing on my bladder with a bottle awaiting the flood. What delights await us as the years goes by eh?
  15. Impressive stuff
  16. Morning all, Calm here now, safe to go out walking again.
  17. Morning all, Up early by my standards today! Weather ok today here, bad tomorrow, so I'll get some rehab walking done today and tomorrow can be a rest day. Stay safe, and dry if possible.
  18. Morning all, I'm taking my temporary job quite seriously. Trying to be the last to sign on in the morning! I can see I am getting closer to being able to potter in the sheds and do some light maintenance jobs. Yippee. Happy birthday Pete.
  19. There is a thread running at present: Consensus seems to be MSA220 better bet than 300. I am very happy with the performance of the 220, and the run time on an AP300 battery. Once the wood gets bigger I go for the MS261 or 462.
  20. I have a MSA 220, with 14 inch bar. It is our saw of choice these days until we need a bit more power. I have felled a 14 inch basal diameter ash with it when we did an early morning start. Chain was sharp and coped, but I would not want to do this regularly. Ideal saw for snedding and smaller fells. No experience of the 300 version myself.
  21. Morning all, 6 degrees and dry here. Sun trying to burn off the mist. Good weather for walking rehab.
  22. I recently changed my phone, something I don't do often. I am now on my second iphone, currently a 15. Not long ago I was paying with applepay in a shop with my previous phone, an iphone7. The shopkeeper could not believe my phone was so old as it still looked like new. Simple really, I kept in in a neoprene pouch, never took it up the tree etc. Only changed as the speaker was failing (not just fluff blocking it), and was nearing the time of no more security updates. My younger son is a software developer and always preferred android. Once he changed jobs and the new firm used apple he quickly concluded he preferred it and felt the hardware was better quality.
  23. I used to have a grounds maintenance contract at a large local housing estate on the site of the former "county asylum". During our fortnightly mowing we would regularly have to pick up a collection of, yes you've guessed it, carling beer cans. Same place every time. This was always half way along the 600 metre road into the estate. I have no idea what the dynamic was with this. On a different note, back in the late seventies/early eighties I was with one of my university friends in a multi storey car park one day. As we were exiting the car park he furtively screwed up the parking ticket and dropped it out of the window, thinking I did not notice. I called him out on this. He went on to become a professor of paediatric haematology. Just shows that litterrbugs come from all sectors of society. Grrrrrrr
  24. Morning all, Just waiting to make sure no frost left before going out to start rehab walking. Saw physio yesterday who was very pleased with my knee's progress. Then gave me a target of 10,000 steps per day by end of first week January. He didn't seem to understand when I asked if I should be using just Castrol LM or a lithium containing grease. I thought it was a logical question. Have a good week all.
  25. It's what highways dept call give and take measures on a quiet road, although maybe not exactly.
