  1. Ay up all, Off to cut a Laurel hedge before further precipitation occurs. Then sharpening chains or splitting logs under cover.
  2. We had the house thermally imaged, and it is not too bad, but bungalows are less heat efficient than houses. Bear in mind a lot of the wood I am burning is low calorie conifer, but it is free.
  3. Yes. Several years ago we had a 2000L heat store tank installed with our first boiler, a Perge. About 4/5 years ago we replaced the boiler with a slightly larger and more efficient fan assisted gasification Atmos boiler. Very please with the results. The boiler and heat store are in the garage attached to the house. I put a lot of (well seasoned) conifer through the boiler plus hardwood. It heats our large (34 metre long bungalow, including garage) very well. We typically get through about 45 cu metres of mixed hardwood and softwood a winter for the boiler, while running a small stove in the main sitting room in the colder evenings.
  4. I'm on my second Disco 2 (both auto) in 20yrs. Have had 3 xyz switches in that time. When it has played up the M + S lights both flash on the dashboard; the vehicle will move but needs a lot of revs to make this happen. Rather like a slipping clutch. Leaving the motor turned off for 2-3 minutes always made it work again, but once it was happening regularly I always had the switch changed.
  5. Morning all, Early start for a quick easy fell in an industrial unit before they start work. The mornings and evenings are certainly getting darker now.
  6. Morning all, "Carrying out all aspects of tree and ground work in the Cairngorms." What stunning photos/views those are, just fantastic. We are taking down a very dead Lime today. I will have some good views from the MEWP over the Staffordshire Moorlands. Meanwhile some guys start the day trying to find parking space near enough to the job. I feel their hassle.
  7. Good idea. Bet one hose is too short to fit the other side😂
  8. Hose breaking down internally, restricting flow?
  9. Finished dismantling this Lime near home yesterday. Customer wanted it down to make way for photovoltaic panels. Trunk is 5ft form the house wall. Appeared healthy enough. Had previously been topped off where trunk was about 16 - 18 inch diameter and had grown 15ft shoots since then. Cavity went to below ground and to about 18ft above. Customer was please they had it down!
  10. Oh they would have been so tedious if they had to be a climb and dismantle.
  11. Morning all. Raining here, and likely most of the day. Finished a two day job yesterday (Mon + Weds as rain++ Tuesday). Lazy day today/admin then Friday and Saturday good weather again.
  12. Morning all, copious cats and dogs outside. None of us have any desire to get soaked through, so we will resume dismantling large lime 6ft from house tomorrow. If it clears later we can collect yesterday's timber.
  13. Bit of light rain late morning, clouds started to look like the thunderstorm forecast might happen so stopped using the (steel) MEWP at half two. Fair old rain and win at present and occasional flashes of lightning. Nice and cool now.
  14. Morning all, We're working all of 1,500 metres by road, or 850 as the crow flies, from home for the next three or four days. Still have to be up at usual time or you know who will want to know why breakfast is late.
  15. Offcut of resin coated plywood under the wheel
  16. Please Miss, I didn't do a wee wee all afternoon in this heat. Can I use that as a credit note for wee wees during lessons in winter?
  17. Thank crunchy I don't do site work on Fridays these days😀. Just had breakfast with my beloved, now to spend the day pottering out of the sun, Loler on the MEWP, machinery maintenance etc. Put me on the register for half a day's attendance Miss.
  18. Agreed. Try telling Stoke on Trent City Council.
  19. Time go early miss/sir. I was here on time, but have done some work and it is lovely and hot and my ready mix concrete that was delivered at 9am, just when assembly was happening, is now hard enough to walk on.
  20. Quite agree. One of our local tree officers is excellent and would never do this. Years ago I checked with him that a large roadside Oak near me was not protected as the customer wanted to fell it (having built a house extension under it!). The TO said it was not protected but that it was worthy of a TPO and he would put one on it very soon. He openly left me with the option to get on and fell it quickly while I could. The customer is a local PITA, the tree is lovely, so I did not rush and it got protected. The TO and I respect each other and it works well. Flip side: Another local council are the opposite. I reduced a largish Holly in a conservation area several years ago, with permission. It has since died, deceased, snuffed it, become a tree no longer, had its chips and gone to meet its maker. See photo. Owner applied with photo evidence to take it down. Council told him they need a tree surgeon's report to confirm it is dead! I reckon I could probably snap the trunk if I pushed hard enough on it. Sorry for semi derailing thread but its shows what a lottery it can be dealing with councils.
