  1. Morning all, Late start for me. Waterproofs on, then using the cabless tractor to move soil from A to B. A is my field which is now too wet for the grab wagon to drive into, and B is the concrete and hardcore surfaced yard.
  2. Morning all, Another reasonable forecast today, but we did get unexpected rain yesterday. Which means the garden border we have to stand on today will be like mud. Which means the customers lawn will get muddy. Which means the customers drive will get muddy. And then, worst of all, drum roll, wait for it, wait for it. Yes, the van gets mud inside it. Think I'll cry now.😂
  3. Morning all, Good forecast here, two medium conifers to climb and dismantle. Should be a nice day. Have a good one yourselves.
  4. Morning all, Normal service resumed in Staffordshire. Went to Glasgow for long weekend, seeing our daughter, and my wife running the 10K. Not much of an excuse I know , and I will try harder for the rest of term.
  5. This oak looks in vigorous health looking at the crown. The owner recently noticed some cracking and lifting of the bark, and in recent weeks it has extended upwards. It does not go higher than 4ft above ground. Percussion with hammer reveals nothing other than the fact that the bark in the visibly affected area has lifted. There is no smell to note, and the lowest part of the area almost looks like callous formation at the edge. The tree is in a position where it would land on his house and/it garage if it failed. My feeling is watch, wait and see, but in view of its potential risk I have suggested he get a proper assessment done. He is wanting to sell his house, so this may be an issue for him.
  6. Morning all, No trees over in my immediate vicinity, that I know of. My two men are both off today, so a lazy day for me😀
  7. Morning all, Wet and windy forecast today. Staying on the ground cutting hedges, then early start to weekend, going to stay with daughter and son in law, aka can rest the should I strained yesterday.
  8. Hello ello ello, Mixed forecast, but don't mind. Had a full connie bashing day yesterday, just got an hour or so clean up then work round whatever weather we got - a smaller job, or logging under cover, then start cooking early afternoon as it is SHWOMBO's birthday today. For the uninitiated to 40 years of marriage, that stands for She Who Must Be Obeyed!
  9. Morning all, Weather good, connies and laurels awaiting bashing, what's not to like.
  10. My new Hi Lux Invincible X is due in at the dealers in October they say. I'm almost getting excited, but I will be sad to say goodbye to my (second) Disco 2, as it has been great.
  11. Definitely. I now understand why older people say the cold and damp does not help their joints. I used to think it was nonsense, until I got older😂
  12. Looked at that for ages last night (sober) and did not get it. Got it straight away this morning. Like giving up on a seized nut and bolt one day, and next day it comes off by hand!
  13. Lovely blue sky day here. But going to a wedding for the day, so not outdoors.
  14. Morning all, Nice bright morning here. Bit of office work and walk the hound then off to Buxtons to get some full chisel 10 inch chains made up for the little echo top handle. Should make it even better.
  15. Morning all. Good weather today, so telescopic trim to a variegated maple this morning then 😀conny bashing😀 in the afternoon
  16. Late for roll call today. Was up early for delivery and installation of new range cooker at home, then forgot the roll call. Wet and windy here, been log splitting. A big tree has come down on the main road through the next village along, blocked it both ways.
  17. I bring you greetings of wind and rain this joyous day. Got a power line isolation booked so can't stay in bed. At least it is accessible to the mewp so I should't get wet armpits. Local too, so if it gets too bad just clear the cable area today.
  18. Ay up all, Off to cut a Laurel hedge before further precipitation occurs. Then sharpening chains or splitting logs under cover.
  19. We had the house thermally imaged, and it is not too bad, but bungalows are less heat efficient than houses. Bear in mind a lot of the wood I am burning is low calorie conifer, but it is free.
  20. Yes. Several years ago we had a 2000L heat store tank installed with our first boiler, a Perge. About 4/5 years ago we replaced the boiler with a slightly larger and more efficient fan assisted gasification Atmos boiler. Very please with the results. The boiler and heat store are in the garage attached to the house. I put a lot of (well seasoned) conifer through the boiler plus hardwood. It heats our large (34 metre long bungalow, including garage) very well. We typically get through about 45 cu metres of mixed hardwood and softwood a winter for the boiler, while running a small stove in the main sitting room in the colder evenings.
  21. I'm on my second Disco 2 (both auto) in 20yrs. Have had 3 xyz switches in that time. When it has played up the M + S lights both flash on the dashboard; the vehicle will move but needs a lot of revs to make this happen. Rather like a slipping clutch. Leaving the motor turned off for 2-3 minutes always made it work again, but once it was happening regularly I always had the switch changed.
  22. Morning all, Early start for a quick easy fell in an industrial unit before they start work. The mornings and evenings are certainly getting darker now.
  23. Morning all, "Carrying out all aspects of tree and ground work in the Cairngorms." What stunning photos/views those are, just fantastic. We are taking down a very dead Lime today. I will have some good views from the MEWP over the Staffordshire Moorlands. Meanwhile some guys start the day trying to find parking space near enough to the job. I feel their hassle.
