  1. Predicted to be trending soon..
  2. It's a great idea. A common powerplant unit, super efficient but mass producible due to being a single model. Every car gets the same engine, no arguments. A one off, properly engineered (probably by Toyota), built for low down pulling power, not speed, with as many standard parts as possible. Built for repairability. The powerplant will be supplied with a cradle appropriate to your vehicle engine bay.
  3. Thermodynamics. Energy in/energy out, the challenge is making it come out as torque instead of heat. There may be super efficient motors, in terms of fuel conversion to torque, but are they efficient in economic terms? There's the market aspect. mass production can overcome these cost problems, but it takes time. The world manufacturing infrastructure is tooled up for making cost effective traditional ICEs. The off-brand ecosystem which services the production of these engines is part of the mix. It wall works together to deliver remarkably reliable products at affordable prices. One way to increase fuel efficiency and overall cost, is reduce the weight and speed of the vehicle. But people don't want that. And the world fleet of used vehicles can be kept going indefinitely, unless legislation forcibly retires it.
  4. 👍 Realistically, id probably just stay at home, but go back a thousand years. See what the place used to be like. The geographical landmarks would still be there, so it would kind of be relatable.
  5. When you find it, pass it on the "the boys". Make it's final location a remote wooded area.
  6. Ground clearance looks super low. Though that seems to be the norm for all tracked vehicles. Still, low even for tracked though.
  7. Links or it didn't happen. C'mon, be a sport 😉
  8. Dunno. I suppose he invited it by driving up a signposted "residents only" private road.. I wouldn't want Google earth driving up my private road either, truth be told.
  9. Some years back, a distant neighbor caught the Google street view van on his private road. Clearly signposted as such. He gave the driver/operator a bollocking and turned him around.
  10. Biden's individual responsible for the management of spent nuclear fuel has been charged with felonies, after nicking peoples travel luggage. Shortly after he was put on leave, pending trial I suppose, he hosted a "spanking seminar". Apparently he's into the BDSM scene, pretending to be a dog, etc. He nicked three grands worth of jewelry and woman's clothing from suitcases from the airport convertor belts, on two separate occasions. Caught on cctv waring his trademark T-shirt. Sam Brinton Hosted a 'Spanking' Seminar Weeks After Alleged Theft WWW.BREITBART.COM Sam Brinton, the “openly genderfluid” Biden administration official recently arrested, hosted a...
  11. Some of the conspiracy stuff is just bandwagon jumping. Even most of it, maybe, especially of YouTube. Like, the underlying trend is clearly real, but the way they frame actual cases of perceived government overreach is usually skewed. Take the lastest thing in Oxford City, the neighborhood zones. They way the army of opportunistic YouTuber "truthers" spin it is like OC will turn into a concentration camp. But they don't give the whole story. I went on the OCC website and did some research. The traffic zones are not about climate, it's about traffic congestion. Only applies 7am - 7pm. All parts of the city accessable at all times, free of charge, via alternative routes (the ring road). Motorbikes and vans exempt. It really doesn't merit the hysteria, as it's drafted now. Of course, things can change. But jumping the shark on everything is not an honest or healthy way to live. There was a thing back around 2011 where the UN was going to outlaw vitamins and even garlic. Some people I know were shitting themselves. It never happened. Knew it wouldn't, after I read the source directive. Still, Deff to the WEF ✊
  12. Mix it with the sap and make epoxy for setting your arrowheads 👍 It's good soap, mixed with fat. I use ours for scouring and degreasing the baking tray and frying pans. Pour ashes in, a bit of water to make a slurry, and leave it outside for a few days. The ash and fat combine to make a soap like chemical, which is easily washed out into the long grass.
  13. Are the flames supposed to be aimed at the inside of the windscreen or back into the cab?
  14. Are you gonna keep the compressor? Could come in handy for something. Air spade maybe.
  15. I made it work, anyway, for the time being at least. Shaved flakes off a blue barrel and packed the socket with them, melted with a heat gun and just stuck it on the splined shaft. Eyeball tolerance, so yeah, it's not perfectly centered, but I can't feel any more vibration than usual. Had to sleeve the trimmer outer shaft with some aluminum flashing, as it was a bit loose in the Stihl head. It works, cuts. Power is lacking, as the trimmer is only 24cc, but the Stihl head chain sprocket is very badly worn and is actually creating resistance. I've a couple new spur sprockets ordered, and new chains, so hopefully that will sort it. We'll see how long the blue barrel plastic holds up. The good thing is, it fits snugly and easily fits on my and off, so it's an easy swap.
  16. That's an awesome idea. Could drill out the fluted end to precisely match the diameter of the splined trimmer shaft, then tap threads in the hole and glue the thing on.
  17. Thank's for that, Steer, but bloody hell €284!!!
  18. Maybe it won't sheer off. I filed it instead of ground, so no heat. I've beat on these with ratchets, rattle guns, heavy torque drills etc, never sheered one. The other end might be a different story, as only the tip of the splined shaft will engage with the socket, so not much bearing surface. I'm gonna use chemical metal to fill the space (will do a test run with a junk splined shaft and another socket, to be sure I can remove it after). But if it strips out it no biggie. The hedger is only 24cc, doubt it will have the power to seriously damage anything. The idea is modularity, not a permeant change. With a few minutes of head swapping I can have a nimble long reach saw when I need it. Change back to a hedger or super long reach saw as and when required. As to the elliptical wobble, Yes, I'm concerned about that. Don't know how to fool-proof that one out of the mix... I'll just have to do it and see what happens, I suppose. If there's a noticable wobble I'll probably scrap the project.
  19. Thank's chaps. Didn't think of filing down the trimmer shaft. I'd be wanting to use it as a trimmer as well from time to time. I've had a couple of the Chinese kombitools, but the saw heads on them are trash. I just can't work with them. See, the telescoping polesaw is great, but heavy. There are times I'd like a lighter machine with less reach. I don't be using the hedge trimmer that much, so if I can get it to work with a (good) saw head, it will see more use. Maruyama do make a saw head for the trimmer, but they're hen's teeth to find and not cheap. I'm thinking about an adapter, a small hex socket with a 1/4" hex shaft. Grind the shaft to fit the Stihl head, then expoxy the socket end onto the Maruyama spline, but coat the splines in light oil first. Hopefully it will set up and also be removable.
  20. Here's my boggle: I want to put a Stihl saw head off of a HS131 polesaw on a Maruyama long reach hedge cutter. The Stihl head has that wee square female coupling. The Hedger (don't have the product code to hand) is kind of an oddball machine, not too many around. It's got either a 7 or 9 spline shaft. I want something to connect the splined end of the hedger driveshaft to the square indent inside the Stihl head. Any ideas?
  21. I thought hydrogen cars are electric? They don't actually burn the hydrogen gas, right? They combine it with air or something to make electricity, and water is the waste product? Or have I got this completely wrong? Cos it wouldn't be a stretch to just replace the battery packs with hydrogen packs and the associated gizmo's, if hydrogen ever supercedes lithium batteries in economy. Lithium cells are pretty darn good things for longevity really. I've got drill batteries going back over 15 years which are still going strong, maybe they only run half as long they used to, but they still crank out the same amps, charge just as fast etc. 15 years of abuse, winters in a freezing shed, being left empty for months, etc.
  22. Does a "festive hangi" involve eating the cow then? Or did they bring it back after?
  23. Weird, I was just researching these things last week. My splitter ram wouldn't activate, and some googling suggested a broken spider coupling. But then it worked again, so... Is it a sacrificial shear part then? Rubber would make me think it's supposed to work like a duel flywheel.
  24. I've derived much pleasure from Arbtalk these last seven years. It's like a hardware store with a bar counter, where you can scratch where it itches. I've savored the flame wars, the butthurt, the gossip, the gear talk, the shop talk, the nutters, the genuine support, the odd conversation that really makes me think. - A pint of porter there Steve, please, when yr ready.
