  1. that's quite a lot, doesn't leave much for profit. How many cube would you get roughly per ton of unprocessed?
  2. true, your average Irish/Ulsterman could start an argument in an empty room.
  3. what's a fair price per ton for unprocessed freshly felled wood? hardwood/softwood, roadside/not roadside.
  4. no worries Marc, other countries do have their own problems with foreign nationals, but how they handle that is their problem, we have our own. Unfortunately shipping anyone off isn't going to work, where do we ship them to. My argument is to introduce measures whereby only those who can contribute to the British economy should be allowed in, this would also mean a shortfall in people to do the low level jobs which should be forced onto the home grown layabouts. If they want a better life then get off their lazy arses and do something about it. The key problem in Britain which ties into the EU is this humanitarian notion that everyone deserves an equal life, no they don't, not if they aren't prepared to get up at 6am and go do a days work like the tax payers!
  5. That's the problem, the Good Friday Agreement came into force on 2 December 1999. The Republicans were tired fighting, the Loyalists were tired fighting, the politicians were tired of fighting, and the people of Ulster were tired being caught in the middle of the fighting. Once the agreement was signed we had a window of peace in which to resolve the matter before the pain and suffering of the troubles were forgotten and the violence returned. That window is starting to close, a new breed of hardline young loyalists, republicans, and politicians are starting to come through as the older generation fades away, people who are too young to remember the horror of the troubles. Add to that this issue of the border and things could get dicey round here:thumbdown:
  6. I don't believe Britain is any more racist than any other country, not for a second. The difference is we live in a country where political correctness has gone mad, to have national pride is to be a racist! I've worked with Polish squads, Hungarian squads, Latvian squads, and hand on heart they are more racist than us, maybe not intentionally, but just the general ethos of those nations. But we in Britain are made to feel that no matter how liberal we are, we need to be more liberal, no matter how considerate of other religions, cultures we are, we need to be more considerate, we're always being pushed to be a better society and because so much time is spent dwelling on and trying to improve our flaws, they become magnified until we're left feeling like we're the scum of Europe, when in reality we are possible the most considerate, generous, welcoming people in Europe.
  7. I agree, bad enough the imaginary border that exists in many peoples minds without having a physical one. But there are going to have to be additional defences between mainland Europe and Britain, either at Irish ports, where Ireland meets Britain, or at the mainland ports of Britain.
  8. Just curious what the members from North/South Ireland (and anyone who wants to comment) think of resurrecting the border? I personally was glad to see it go as I think it created more issues than it solved. But with Brexit in the pipeline all those trying to reach Britain are going to flood through Ireland (historically the back door to Britain) and end up bottled up in Ulster. Has the bitterness of the troubles subsided enough to reinstate the border? Would it even work? and living on the Ards Peninsula, the most easterly point in all of Ireland, will I wake up some morning to find i'm living in the Calais Jungle?
  9. agreed! if migrants are good for the economy why do they come from countries with poor economies? If they couldn't help their own economies how will they help ours? Yes some will help but I fear their contribution will be undone by the strain of those who are a burden to our economy.
  10. Because those in Britain who work, work hard. They are the ones who make Britain a success, If we could get a handle on the benefits culture we would be even more successful, to the point where leaving the EU wouldn't be an economical issue.
  11. Being in a position to pick and choose who gets in would then make a stronger Britain. If your going to be a drain on the economy you can't get in, if you have something beneficial to offer then you do. Sounds unfair but that's the policy other countries around the world use. Not all imigrants are a drain on Britain, but there are many benefit tourists here putting extra pressure on the NHS, Housing, Welfare etc. And yes there are many more home grown citizens doing the same, unfortunately being UK citizens we can't do anything about them, we can however do something about non UK nationals draining Britain.
  12. thanks for the replies guys, I used to think FB was just for people so full of self importance they felt the need to constantly inform everyone else (2000 friends, 3 they actually know) of what they're doing. But it seems FB has evolved into something more, certainly a lot of older people are using it too, and because it's free most businesses have a FB page. I recently had a chat with a local paper regarding running some advertising and the girl was adamant I need a FB page for the business, and she works in advertising! Does a commercial FB page cost and whats the benefits over a regular page?
  13. When we leave the EU will we be able to pick and choose who is allowed to come and work in Britain? Not sure but I think Australia does this not only with qualifications but with race etc.
  14. I have no direct problem with foreign born folk working in the UK, but many of our lazy home grown layabouts use this as an excuse not to work, if we had less foreign nationals propping up our industry, the government would be able to say to our layabouts "there's a job for you now, take it or lose your benefits"
  15. is there an existing thread for facebook pages? I have a basic page but want something more professional looking?
  16. can anyone explain in simply English why the government or whoever it was has voted to block the go ahead of article whatever it is? I thought we had a democratic vote:confused1:
  17. bought and sold a few saws on ebay, as said ebay usually side with the buyer, also if he said it came with a bar and it didn't then that alone is enough to warrant a return.
  18. well its that time of year, gotta get the budget used up by end of the tax year:thumbup1:
  19. its human nature to abuse trust, that's why we have laws, we cannot be trusted to keep our vehicles in a roadworthy state for a number of reasons, some people can't afford it, some have the money but would rather spend it on other things, some don't have the tools to maintain a motor vehicle, and most wouldn't know how to, and that's why we have the mot. Why then is a certain area of society allowed to maintain their own vehicles and not permitted to put them through an official mot? Are farmer more trustworthy than anyone else? Surely if a farmer MUST keep his vehicle to the same standard as everyone else, why not just make him mot it seeing as it will obviously be in a passable condition? And if farmers are expected to keep their vehicles to mot standard surely then all farmer would need to be time served mechanics with fully fitted out garages, rolling roads for testing brakes, headlight alignment testers, the shaking vehicle lifts for testing bushes and wheel bearings etc! Its a joke:thumbdown: True Stoatally vehicles can become unroadworthy before their first mot, and most people wouldn't check, but most people wouldn't suspect a nearly new car to be unfit for road use. However most of these "agricultural" vehicles are not new, they're quite old and became "agricultural" when they required too much work to pass an mot!
  20. I'm perfectly aware of that, unfortunately many farmers fail to uphold this requirement, if farmers are allowed to judge the roadworthiness of their own vehicles why can't everyone else?
  21. yeah douse him in petrol then ask if he preferred you burning neighbours instead.
  22. at least he didn't any bugger kids, that's bound to win him a few jury points!
  23. hope this doesn't stir up too much of a backlash as I know many of you guys are from farming stock, but there is one simple fact that makes a complete mockery of the British mot system, why are farmers allowed to drive total wrecks on the road under the "agricultural" card? And before anyone says anything about "limited" use, it doesn't matter if they only drive six feet on public roads, they are still on public roads, and should therefore be made to have an mot like everyone else, and as for the "they must keep agricultural vehicles in a safe and reliable condition", sorry but I'm from a rural area and some of these vehicles are a disgrace. The whole point of an mot (other than a money making scheme) is because the government does not trust the public to maintain their vehicles to a suitable standard, unless your a farmer.....my car failed its mot last month on worn wipers, my mate makes a living from welding up 4x4's, mostly owned by farmers, he had an Isuzu trooper in last week that needed blocks of wood cable tied to the rear axle to stop it flapping about, cable ties held on both bumpers, half the lights didn't work, NO working wipers, chassis gone, anti roll bars hanging in thin air, bushes disintegrated, more play in the steering than my daughters play cart, etc. Yet its allowed on the road:confused1:
  24. I think the entire motoring test process needs overhauled, both for vehicles and drivers. My missus recently passed her test only to phone me up the next day to ask how to put the petrol in, its a diesel dear! People are passed or failed on whether they can do a three point turn in an empty side road without touching the kerb, but don't need to know what fuel their car runs on, how to change a wheel, or replace the wiper blades when they stop clearing the screen. As Difflock said we have government run mot centres here in Northern Ireland but like anything government run, they're as corrupt and flawed as anything else the government does.
