  1. thanks for the advice folks, once I have a bit more experience I'll be pricing by the job, don't think anyone does purely stump grinding round here so that might be worth looking into!
  2. will do, my local hire store only have the Rayco, another store has a Toro STX26, great machine, but £160 a day and two hours round trip to pick it up!
  3. cheers folks, will have a look at the xperia before buying anything
  4. hey folks was doing a bit of stump grinding today with a Rayco RG13, hired it out for three separate jobs, split the cost over them and charged £20 an hour for my time. Wheel brake didn't work very well so instead of pivoting on it, it kept creeping forward and I had to stop and drag it back repeatedly. Hard to move when surrounded with mulch, just an awkward bugger. Sitting here stiff as a board and aching all over, £20 an hour?
  5. Well my old Samsung Galaxy s3 has finally calved so its off to the O2 shop for a replacement. Not sure whether to go for a Samsung s7 edge or an iPhone 6s, anyone own one of these and whats your opinions? The iPhone is a bit more expensive, but comes in 32gb, 64gb, and 126 gb whereas the Samgsung is only available with 32gb.
  6. yeah that was my thinking, round here short wheel base 4x4's are getting good money for rock crawlers and off roading, also being a fair age I thought it might appeal to someone wanting something different. Anyway I just thought it would make a fun weekend motor for taking the family down to the Mourne Mountains and places like that, and when the novelty wears off sell it on with out loosing anything.
  7. still have the L200 but holding off doing any work on it as the chassis is so bad, waiting to see if a good one crops up with a knackered engine, if not its out with the welder.
  8. a mechanic mate has a 1990 2.6 petrol trooper in his yard for sale for £200, totally original, swb, red over silver, really good condition, no real use to me, but i'm a sucker for old school Jap 4x4's, what you reckon?
  9. if you can afford it buy a tipper, as the saying goes "better looking at it than looking for it"
  10. I wish my hedge was emo, then it would cut itself!
  11. my missus decided to get her health in order and asked if I was prepared to change our diet. I didn't think I needed a change of diet having a physically demanding job and being in good shape. I may not have been over weight but that doesn't make you healthy, we have the Jo Wicks book out regularly, full of healthy tasty dinner ideas, I also bought "500 soup recipes" great for making in batches then taking a flask to work each day for lunch. Also got a nutri bullet which is great for filling you up with healthy drinks rather than snacks. We don't follow any one diet/health regime as you can become sick of them when forced to follow a rigid plan, instead we just float between them. Last night we had an indian for dinner (one portion of chicken balti with rice and a naan bread between us), this morning poached eggs on spinach and wholemeal bread with a fruit smoothie, forget counting calories, what the scales say, or the measuring tape, if your healthy you'll feel healthy.
  12. I watched a clip once on how to maintain a conifer hedge, the "expert" cut the hedge to a neat but not tight finish then went over it with hand sheers cutting into it here and there to create openings for air and light to get into the hedge, sounds weird, and up close a bit holey, but from further back it looked great and made a nice healthy hedge. Anyone use this technique?
  13. was asked by a new customer to trim their Leylandii hedge "good and tight". I trimmed it up much tighter than I would normally do only to be told by the customer it needed to be much tighter. I doubt they will ask me back as I told them it was bad for the hedge to cut it so tight as extreme weather could damage it. Is this true and is there any way to get that dense finish without risk. Personally I don't like it, looks fake almost, like green polystyrene. But lots of people seem to go for it even when parts of their prize hedge or topiary turn brown.
  14. We all went out for the night in Letterkenny the day the Euro came in, a pint cost twice as much as it used to but we thought it was just landlords cashing in for the night, turns out it was a permanent thing.
  15. To be honest I got as far as some expert called "Piers", switched off after that. But really, you burn gas, it encourages fracking, you burn oil, it does something else, you burn wood, it creates smog, what would keep the "Piers" of this world happy? Just heard they're going to start taxing people with wind turbines next!
  16. are you calling me a racist and selfish because I voted out?
  17. he's a sexual tyrannosaurus!
  18. who are these girls that "let you grab them by the pussy" and where do we find them? obviously not interested myself being a married man. cough. cough.
  19. interesting, hadn't thought about the vehicle, still trying to convince the Mrs to sell the Mondeo and buy a 4x4 so I can use it as a backup workhorse but for now its my trusty old vivaro, so next question how often should I wash my van?
  20. I normally just wear my work gear as I think it shows the would be customer your not afraid to get your hands dirty. But then I know some people in similar jobs that like to get all shaved and tidied up when visiting customers. What's your opinions?
  21. wouldn't have let the Chinese pm in either, seems we live in a country that preaches human rights, equality, etc, then jumps into bed with every capitalist, human rights violater that flashes some cash at us:confused1: when money talks, morals walk!
  22. that's your opinion, if "hate" isn't the right word what would you call "stuff"?
  23. well I've been looking at several biscuit tins for about six months that used to be an 070 and still can't figure out how it goes together, and I've a decent amount of mechanical knowledge. Might be easier if you get an instruction manual though.
  24. i'm all for free speech, letting people voice their opinions etc, but it's dangerous at that level, his opinions encourage hate. we wouldn't invite hitler or sadam for a state visit so no I don't want him in my country being treated like he's something special, that will only encourage his fear mongering dribble. He's scum, Britain has extradited Muslims for less.
  25. was offered a dozen felled ash trees between 18"and 9" and about 20ft in length for £300, that was a couple of months ago and the guy said they needed gone by March, they're still there so might see if he'll drop the price. they're in a field next to the road so would need to throw a local farmer a few quid to get them out, but the seller is happy for me to take what I want and leave the brash for him to burn. Sound fair?
