  2. Nice Si, like the feathers on the owl particularly
  3. Thank you very much It was a piece of Ash which has been down for 18 months.
  4. Thanks Si I'm just hoping the neck holds out once the customer has the carving.
  5. The link is in Francais, but I would be very in coming over there for a couple of weeks to do some carving 😎
  6. Thanks N i wouldnt mind a week or two in the South of France carving
  7. a bit tough on the pallet may be Many thanks Gnome
  8. Just finished this carving off today with a little bit of orange paint for the beak and the feet...... The customer wanted an aggressive looking goose for her collection of farm animals Im a little unsure of the strength in the neck, i have carved it a little thicker than what it should be, but hopefully it will retain its strength.
  9. It certainly does, thanks very much for your help
  10. Tony Have a look on this forum, about 8 threads back someone posted about starting up on a tight budget, have a look at that for starters
  11. Hello Tony Your picture is of a bike put together from machined pieces of timber, and numerous separate pieces. An excellent job dont get me wrong but it's not Chainsaw Carving as far as I can tell. The majority of chainsaw carvers use one piece of timber or when more than one piece is used it is often the off cuts from the original log. There are motorbikes that have been carved, Harley's in particular and I m sure you will find a carver who will accept a commission from you to carve one. It is out of my league I'm afraid.
  12. Yes I think you have posted them before, good reference material for me, I think I need to keep practicing
  13. Thanks for the advice Ian, much appreciated, yes that hood bit is way to big when i look at eagle pics, i will put the nostrils in before i finish it off. Thanks for your help
  14. Thanks woodcrafter much appreciated
  15. Nice one Shane Thanks very much for your comments
  16. Thanks very much Steve
  17. Im not a football fan at all but i was asked to carve the club emblem for a keen Tottenham Hotspur fan The carve stands at 40 ins tall and 14 ins wide at the ball, i have never tried to carve an exact sphere before, it was very time consuming and even now its not perfect by a long way. A bit of sanding and oiling and see what the customer thinks.
  18. Thanks Mull
  19. The recovery was proof that you can adapt your work Si, whilst the final piece is excellent, there is something in the look of the original, 'beauty is in the eye of the' ..... you know what I mean Excellent job Si
  20. i have wanted to carve an Eagle for some time now, i thought i would practice on the facial features, beak, eyes, forehead etc so had a go today..... so as not to waste it i put a few feathers and things into the carve to finish it off Welcome any comments before i embark on the full bird....
  21. Thanks Ian Yes the wings are cut through to within an inch of the body, it's the antennas I'm worried about, I soaked them in oil to try and stop any cracks I use a piece of kitchen work top, chip wood, doesn't last but does the job
  22. Thanks very much The antennas i left full thickness to the very end, then cut them to about an inch thickness before finishing them off with a finger sander. The table underneath is a Draper 1.5 ton hydraulic motorbike scissor jack, with a 1 metre lift via a foot pedal. I welded a chequered plate to the top with a 2 inch self tapping bolt vertically welded from the centre. I drill a small hole in my logs then self tap them onto the bolt/plate to hold them while i carve. works well for me and gives me the height i need for the smaller carvings.
  23. Thanks woodcrafter, much appreciated
  24. Carved this Butterfly from a ring of Oak, its 24 ins across the wingspan, the customer wanted it rustic to put against an old tree stump they have in their garden. Not a carving revelation but i had a couple of orders from passers by as i was carving it. Happy New Year to you all
  25. Good job
