  2. Hello Simon, I have sent you you a pm/email as I would welcome the opportunity to carve at dhows etc down South. Kind regards Ian
  3. I keep trying something different Si, i need all the practice i can get before Carve up the Coast
  4. Thanks Steve, hopefully it will help towards the funds with the other auction items.
  5. Thanks Bob, im getting there slowly...... Thanks Steve, hopefully it will make some money when i have oiled it etc. Narrow boat boy, im not selling it im afraid, im donating it to the auction which will take place on the 9th April up here in Flint, PM me if you need the venue details.
  6. I have carved this to donate to an auction in order to raise some money to send a youngster abroad for some treatment. Just want to put some oil on it now then see if its ok to donate......
  7. Nice carving Si
  8. I thought i would put my latest piece on here for any constructive comments especially due to the amount of interest i had as i was carving it. We dont have Bigfoots on Flint Mountain but i was practising for my speed carve
  9. Thanks Geoff, i appreciate your comments
  10. Thanks Gary, I looked at a couple of decoys before carving, they were in the swimming position though, this customer wanted the walking pose though Cheers again
  11. Thanks FriarsGorse I appreciate your comments on both carvings, with the duck and the orange paint, I'm unsure if it would have the same character with out it, I will make another and see. Cheers
  12. Thanks Si, i like to think im making progress
  13. Stephen and Timbernut i appreciate the comments from you both very much, i hope my style continues as i have been asked to carve a stack of books
  14. Cheers Steve, the Fox is delivered to the customer so the duck is safe until i next get the saw out and another creature appears. The wood was a piece of oak with 3 coats of tung oil applied.
  15. Just carved this attempt at a Duck for the first time, i was reasonably happy with this once i decided how to keep its strength when i had carved the feet.
  16. Thanks Steve, atleast im making you smile so thats positive in my feedback criteria The Gruffalo theme thing seems to be re appearing, someone asked me today if i could carve the 'Big Bad Mouse' so i need to google the pics as i have no idea yet what it looks like and thats before the carving is finished. Thanks again for you thoughts, it is very much appreciated
  17. You said 'the recipient loved it' that is the main thing I suppose if your carving to order. But from a carvers point of view we all strive to improve and therefore look for the areas of improvement that perhaps the customer doesn't notice. The paint is very effective on your carving without being over powering, if I had of carved it the chances are I would of posted it here for comments. I will post my duck carving tomorrow, once the oil has dried off a little. Thanks again Goodpig
  18. Thanks Goodpig I appreciate your comments ..... I have been carving for about 2 years on a hobby basis, I'm looking to go full time with it from April this year as I finish in my other job. I'm still unsure of my style as I let the carving dictate what time effort and detail I have put in. I very often see both my mistakes and where I can improve, but everything I make seems to sell. I keep getting drawn in to applying paint just to add that extra detail I carved a duck today and ended up painting the bill and feet orange
  19. Simon, apologies my daughter had to direct me towards top gear, I was looking from another angle Now I see it , very good result.
  20. I got it in the end Si, stig of the dump
  21. Thanks Gary, clear from your pic about the head size
  22. I was asked the question as to whether i could carve a Fox, i have given it a go but i think the head is a little to large for the body and the overall look of the Fox is a little too well fed, but i will change it next time ..... Apologies for the white paint Any comments good or bad will greatly appreciated.
  23. I thought it was you carving also but the link is still good.
  24. Outstanding carving .... No more can be said.
  25. Hahahahahaha you know what I meant, aliens are like dragons here in Wales, they exist in the artists head
