May be electrical, there should be a RFM or RFW? light display on the dash when you engage 4wd

Oh ok , does everyone carry a winch? ive felled trees for tree crews that don't even own a winch. My background is different to most of the members on here, most of my years in the trade have been cutting large timber for sawmills and have come across situations regularly like these down the years , sometimes it is the only way, a tree dismantle in sections isn't much good to a sawmill. I am not judging anyone but just generalising about some of the comments made on the forum.Things have changed in the 40 years I have been in the industry and in a way a new breed has come into it.I have seen some very good climbers BUT I can honestly say that from a production point of view in a harvesting situation I have not seen one person in a tree gang that I would want on one of my sites felling large timber. Regarding safety, I will lay money that over the last few weeks there are members on here that have worked on windblow with little or no experience, training or tickets, I will also lay money that there are members that fell oversize trees as above, where do you draw the line? A lot of the members will never have been in a forestry situation , I learnt my trade long before tickets training etc. and I do things like the videos because I can and need to , that's what I got paid for.

Hiring saws on a casual basis is a no no in my book , too much liability involved, why not double side them with a smaller saw?

Agreed, its bought on that basis, sold on that basis and should be cut and extracted on that basis. Moving it by road could be classed as haulage if its someone elses timber ?

Surely sapwood is just that , sapwood. How often do you see a large diameter Turkey with anything like a regular shaped heart? How many sawmills do you think buy it when it could be bought for a fraction of the price of English or French Oak, why do you think that is. It used to all end up down the mines and hardwood pallet block.

Assuming the agent asked the same questions of the 2 lads and checked their paperwork then surely the onus is on them for ppe. As far aas the timber is concerned 40+ hardwood trees don't have to be very big to yield 25t of firewood, roadside price 1k plus, This appears to be a different situation to a domestic one. Realistically being generous £30 t to put the timber to roadside, perhaps the 2 guys are doing it for the wood , if you were the landowner which offer would you take ?

Possibly , but there again the landowner pays the agents wages, a lot of agents get a percentage of things both on and off estates. They also undergo a lot of training. I am not condoning the hse issues , just putting another perspective on it.

I am interested to know with all the recent storm damage how many people carrying out the work actually have the tickets to work on windthrown trees? I didn't realise it was such a commonly gained qualification.

For what reason are you upgrading, you must have some pretty big trees to cut with a 48" bar. Personally compared to the older 084 I found the 88 gutless for some reason, perhaps it was just a bad un ,
