  1. Definitely mad!
  2. YouTube of above
  3. Have gone for it Unlike a 1978 petrol saw this one started first time. The 20 inch bar had quite a few teeth to sharpen which were a pain as the chain had no free wheel and was impossible to spin slowly with the 1600 watt motor I bought the saw bench off eBay for £35 delivered and read all the reviews about it being impossible to assemble because of hopeless instructions. I thought that they must be a load of snowflakes unlike me with all my skill, however they were dead right! The thing is not to become angry, just treat it like an Easter puzzle! I am sure it would go even better with a new chain and with the oil worked in a bit more and considering I was sawing left handed with one hand it felt very secure The Portek needs to be in a barrow so I do not have to pick the split logs up. It is certainly not as easy as the Palax but it is quiet and good for the occasional job here at home away from the yard So the Dolmar lives again. Any other resurrections from the 1970s out there? I will put a video on YouTube as the file is too big to put on here
  4. Good article by Philip Johnston on how we have become a nation of snowflakes with regard to the weather https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/02/27/beast-east-feels-like-hysteria-siberia/
  5. There but for the ~Grace of God go the rest of us with all our near misses. You and Sean keep reminding us to take extra care. We knew a man who fell only a few feet from a ladder and landed on his heel which shattered the bone. This was America and Doctors are expensive. They put his leg in plaster but obviously had not done their job properly because when it was taken off some weeks later, he had developed some dark lesions which turned out to be gangrene. I was worried when your foot was put back in plaster again because the removable boot would help to keep an eye on things and your strange numb feelings as well caused me further alarm Just have another word with the doctor about the removable boot, because the foot is so complicated and you are putting so much more pressure on it than your wrist, compounded by the extra pressure that you feel you need to be doing something.
  6. Back in the nineties some jobsworth came out to inspect some of our TPO copses and listed elder (not alder) as one of the protected species in the copse!
  7. As the previous post says, the car can go by itself but it is not legal without someone at the wheel. There was an accident in America with a lorry that pulled out, but you are never quite sure if it was a stunt by a rival manufacturer. Same cynicism applies to stories about a man having a heart attack and managing to tell the car to drive him to the nearest hospital.
  8. About a year and a half ago I went to Nottingham University with a wealthy friend who was not really interested in cars. Tesla were using the University as a base to try and sell their cars. We were treated very well and just the two of us were given a sensible talk followed by a road test. I was in the back seat with a video camera and my friend in the front and the salesman driving. We went out onto a short piece of dual carriageway and I was thinking that we were going to cruise slowly to the main road, but he put his foot down and all my internal organs moved back a few inches and I nearly disappeared with the camera into the boot! 0=60 in about three seconds but that does not demonstrate the effect of 0-30 with four wheel drive. We were allowed to havea go and when it was my turn we went into an industrial estate where we found an empty roundabout. He told me to see how fast I could go round. Now the batteries are all very low down and with the four wheel drive my nerve went before the car even squeaked. The result was my friend bought a new model S which he has had for nearly a year and a half. He has driven it to the South of France and all over England and Scotland with no issues at all. The car will drive itself which is not legal here unless you have both hands hovering over the wheel. The computer is amazing and he says it saved his bacon once when he was driving at night in fog and a deer crossed ahead and the car had already started braking before he saw the deer. Real life range about 250 miles but bit depends on light/weather/ heating and of course hooning. Range is better with the newer cars
  9. Could it be a Bigsby Custom? Musical equipment[edit] Brian Setzer has a very large guitar collection spanning many decades and brands. Setzer favours vintage equipment[11] and hollow body guitars,[12] and currently endorses Gretsch guitars.[13] Vintage guitars: D'Angelico Excel - 1938 D'Angelico New Yorker - 1940 Martin Model D-28 Acoustic - 1956 Fender Stratocaster Turquoise - 1957 Guild Bluesbird - 1959 Gretsch Model 6130 Round Up - 1955 Gretsch Model 6128 Black Duo Jet - 1957 Gretsch Model 6136 White Falcon - 1957 Gretsch Model 6129 Silver Jet - No Pickguard - 1957 Gretsch Model 6129 Silver Jet - White Pickguard - 1957 Gretsch Model 6136 White Falcon - 1957 Gretsch Model 6129 Silver Jet - Black Pickguard - 1958 Gretsch Model 6120 "Stray Cat" - 1959 Gretsch Model 6120 Chet Atkins - 1959 Gretsch Model 6119 "Christmas Custom" - 1959 Gretsch Model 6119 Blue Sparkle Jet - 1959 Gretsch Model 6120 - 1960 Gretsch Model 6119 - 1960 Gibson Firebird V - 1964 Signature guitars: Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Signature Prototype Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Hot Rod Custom Purple Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Hot Rod Custom "Pinstripe" Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Hot Rod Custom "Spotty" Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Hot Rod Custom "Sparkle Red" Gretsch Model 6120 Setzer Hot Rod Custom "Sparkle Blue" Gretsch Model 6120 SSLVO Brian Setzer Signature Gretsch Model 6120 SSL Brian Setzer Signature Gretsch Model 6120 SSU Brian Setzer Signature Gretsch Model 6120 SSUGR Brian Setzer Signature Gretsch Model 6136SLBP Brian Setzer Black Phoenix Indie Model With White GT Stripes Other guitars: Bigsby Custom - 2003 Effects: Roland Re-301 Chorus Echo Amplifiers: Fender Bassman - 1962 Fender Princeton - 1960
  10. The other problem with the Dolmar is that it weighs 6.5 kg so mounted on a sawhorse may be less hard work! But thanks for the tip (pun intended!)
  11. Dunno, it looks like a custom built one, Gretch usually is not shy about putting its name everywhere. Certainly seems to have a low tuned E string down four semitones to C if my hearing is correct. Certainly gives a distinctive sound and Mark Winchester adds another dimension to slap bass!
  12. I can't count.........Oh wait a minute!
  13. Brian Setzer, great talent dodgy shoes!
  14. Me of course as usual!
  15. There is a ready made one for £35 on eBay and I do not think I could make it for that! https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&hl=en-gb&ei=ksORWq62IeOVgAbduImgCw&q=sawhorse+with+chainsaw+holder&oq=sawhorse+with&gs_l=mobile-gws-serp.1.0.41j0l4.4665.15660..17453...1....2834.9126.0j11j1j5-1j1j9-2..........1..mobile-gws-wiz-serp.....3..0i71j0i67.j%2BShKg6nLqc%3D
  16. Just found my old electric Dolmar 219 in the attic! 1600 watt motor with a 20 inch bar Although unsafe for normal use without an anti kickback brake, I could weld up a frame to fix it in place and limit the saw to an arc to cut up to 20 inch logs This should work well and quietly with the Electric Portek Quick splitter here at home as the Palax combi will really only cope with 10 inch diameter . Quite tempted unless anyone thinks of a reason why it is not a good idea
  17. I C. E is correct! if your weird neighbour lifted her veil and seized some caffeine to put in her weighty veins then society may benefit!
  18. I before E except after C
  19. We are showing our age Stubby! Jonsered 621 and an electric Dolmar with no safety kickback device!
  20. Perhaps a bit of lateral thinking might find an answer in the climate. The hotter the place, Middle East, North Africa, Florida, South America, the easier it is to become very angry. Perhaps the Swiss Alps are much cooler. Don't hear of many gun massacres in the Eskimo community! Against my theory are people like Anders Breivik who are just nutcases and even the difficulties he had in obtaining weapons did not stop his actions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_attacks
  21. It seems to be an issue of mental instability rather than weapons. Where do you stop the ban? Carving knives? Pen knives? chain saws? Axes? Stanley knives? Anyone can drive a car or lorry into a crowded area and kill more people than if they had an automatic rifle. Perhaps the issue of mental health needs much closer examination but then there are cases like Dr Harold Shipman who probably killed more people than any of these campus murders, and he would have passed most mental health tests.
  22. Do not see why you need to change the axle. The wheels on my Arbtrolley are only held on by quick release lynch pins or R pins and I am sure that a couple of these offset wider ones would fit but I have never felt the need so far. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260mm-10-Sack-Truck-Pneumatic-Wheel-pair-offset-hub-trolley-wheel/372214307643?hash=item56a9b39b3b:g:i~0AAOSwLUpaeFzy
  23. So are any of the dates visible and can you see the oldest or have they all been hammered in too far?
  24. It was built so my wife could carry garden tools when the arb trolley was not hitched, but mainly to take the wheelie bin down our long drive to the road which was quite an effort uphill on the way back!
  25. Quite happy with the original Arbtrolley, and although I have the workshop and welding skills, by the time I have faffed about finding the right size steel, measuring, cutting, finding correct centre of gravity, finding the right axles and puncture free tyres, bearings, wheels, drawbar , paint, it would come nearly to the price of a new Arbtrolley even with my labour at minimum wage! i found it necessary to make four simple slide on tubes with hoops for the big bags i did weld up a small detachable drawbar for the little Stiga mower which happens to be exactly the same width as the trolley. I bought it off eBay without a deck for £120 and it has worked well the trolley also has the little bar just visible under the bag in the photo, which means you can lift a fifty gallon drum quite easily
