  1. Once I'm up to speed on it I'll let you know.
  2. Some serious tyres on that - Looks the dogs b***cks
  3. All the work for this kit is within 3 miles so just running on an agri registration. I hate the wait for new kit, always drags on and on .... What did you go for ?
  4. Mine has finally arrived. Pics as promised. 71HP Carraro with 5 ton forestry trailer fitted with remote winch and boom extension. 4 ton skidding winch and heavy duty fail. Cannot wait to put it all to work !
  5. I have had a couple of PM's on insulation so hope the following helps:- Two key metrics in drying logs. Temperature and airflow 1. Insulating the kiln will increase the temperature you can achieve by an additional 10 degrees (or circa 20%) proportionally a much higher impact on drying times. 2. You will dry logs circa 25% quicker for the same energy expended / fuel used. 3. Insulating the inside is more efficient than insulating the outside of the container but is more complex and expensive. A 40ft container will cost circa £1,500 to insulate with kingspan insulated external cladding If you are farming the RHI and struggling to hit tier 1 then it would not make sense to insulate the container.
  6. A quick tip for you with your GF kiln set up. So long as you are comfortably hitting tier 1 then insulating your kiln will make a HUGE difference to your the performance. Please trust me on this. I put a considerable amount of time into helping arbtalk member Ash Smith with his set up and he will vouch for the difference it will make. It will be the best £1,500 or so you have ever spent.
  7. The dispute with GF has been settled (I cannot comment any further). I am trying to be desperately fair here. In terms of what GF promise and offer THE FIREWOOD MERCHANT the boiler is an option. It is cheaper than Farm 2000. It will not perform as well as the Farm 2000 and does not have the flexibility of straw as fuel. It will also use more fuel per kw generated. If cash does not permit a Farm 2000 and you are realistic about fuel useage then GF is your only option and given the ROI and benefits that a kiln will bring I would by a GF205 with little hesitation.
  8. Why thank you ! Unfortunately solar didn't work for our business model so I didn't explore it in too much detail. If I were a firewood merchant (purchasing more than 500 tonnes of cord wood pa ) I would act NOW and put in a Farm 2000 boiler (now have RHI compliance on wood and straw as a fuel) on medium tariff or a GF205 boiler on the medium tariff. My preference would be the Farm 2000 but the GF205 is also an option. The window of opportunity to act is small and the ROI is better and more certain than anything else out there.
  9. Given the reduction in space required, freeing up of working capital tied up in large volumes of wood waiting to dry and the ability to react to demand, then over the long term the investment of say £40K in a kiln even without RHI will deliver a decent ROI so long as the fuel is free or very nearly free. Even at the current reduced RHI levels a kiln still adds up to a no brainer at sub £40K.
  10. Kit Porn !
  11. Here you go..
  12. My Carraro TRX 7800S 71HP arrives towards the end of this month (with 5 tonne forestry trailer and winch). Cannot wait.... I'll let you know how I get on with it and post some pics.
  13. I think the insulation is the least of your worries with the GF setup !
  14. A friend of mine uses a Lasco and swears by it.
  15. For nine days work I'd just use the 25l drums.
  16. Logmaster is a product I launched ten years ago (we were one of the first to sell these at the sub £200 price point back then). A huge success and sold over 10,000 of them in the first year so pleased to hear of a happy customer on Arbtalk and that it continues to perform for you.
  17. A no brainer then
  18. You might want to check that this will actually save you. Green hardwood at say £50 a tonne will be circa £80 a tonne when dry. Then you have the cost of processing so say £90 a tonne. Circa 3,500 kwh per tonne of logs. Assume 75% efficiency in a wood burner. So the effective cost is 3.4p kwh. Oil delivers 10kwh per litre and cost 45p a litre, Oil boilers are 90+ efficient so each each kwh costs circa 4.9p. These figures may alter a bit but the point I am trying to make is that the saving might not be as much as you first think You still cannot beat a wood fire though !
  19. Agreed the scenario above assumed no building cost and that there was a vacant suitable building
  20. In rough terms you are looking at £35K versus £120K. So over 20 years £4,250( £81 a week) a year extra capital cost to save having to load the boiler 2-3 times a day. Plus a wood chip boiler will be 20-30% more efficient than a batch fed boiler and you will never miss re fueling it. If you have the capital there is no decision to make in my opinion. Even at reduced RHI levels it will still pay for itself a couple of times over
  21. 15% reduction in RHI rumoured to be coming next month. If your kiln it not in place within 3 months I think it will be at the point where it is not worth it. Time to press on....
  22. Yep 90lts a min on highflow
  23. Agreed. I'm not in the firewood business , I think if I was the Riko would have won by a mile
  24. bobcat / telehandler
  25. Thanks for all the help. In the end I went for a Multech. Its a better machine for what I want though the Riko is clearly a better machine if you see what I mean !
