  1. there was an old lad up here that was getting his logs pinched, so he drilled a hole in end of one and emptied a 12B cartridge into it

only thing wrong was he didnt tell his wife, and she blew the back out of fire grate

  2. my dad used to say that grandad would know exactly which type of elm to cut because one would split easily and the other wasnt worth the effort.

i think wych elm will split because it had a straight grain but the others are a buggar with an axe.

that sounds true enough, i once took a dead standing one down, the whole thing was to cut up for firewood on a circular saw

  3. i can remember being at one of the APF shows a lot of years ago , talking to a man at the " HY CRACK" stand where they where showing there screw splitters

i asked if there screw tips would fit a KIDD splitter, he said yes and that there splitters were made first and when dutch elm diesase came in the 70s they couldnt keep up with demand as hydraulic type were no good and so asked kidd to make them for them,

then later kidd, made and sold them under there own kidd name

  4. Umm like you not sure about that particular system. But with respect that would not be the firewood processors problem, they get to use the system FOC, the RHI income or lack of it , cost of providing the system is for the provider.

Again what I am trying to establish is, given the headline figures I have quoted if the members feel this would work for them. IE cost of running £12.50 or less per kiln dried ton with a 40-50 ton a week throughput

where abouts are you based ?

  5. I am "the boy" with the firm i work one day a week for on my day off from my retail job and am grateful for the experience in a saturated trade! My boss has said to me before that he will know am warm enough when my t shirts wet! Am with the op on this one! Top dollar being paid by the op so top work rate required! And really if a guy is going to fall over and hurt himself whilst empty handed in a garden i doubt he is going to go to far in the industry!

    Go hard or go home!
