  1. I just made a milling shed with oversized coppice chestnut. Some moved, some didn't

    How heavy?

    How heavy?

Got all the logs to the yard yesterday, the butt was an awkward lift but no dramas ? Now I just need to find the time to mill it!

    How heavy?

Brilliant. Thanks guys, I had calculated it wrong and used the dry weight of dry timber so you saved me some embarrassment. I'll try to post a picture later in the week once I've hauled it to the yard. (I've cut it down to 8 ft)

    How heavy?

I think it will be more than 2m3 of timber. A useful website that, thanks
  6. I've got a redwood butt that is 12 ft long and average 5 ft diameter. How heavy do you think it will be?
  7. The pins on the hitch are removable and one slid out while I was working out of sight. On an 8t Kubota
  8. First day out
  9. Oi. That's my ride! I hope you didn't just pick up all the easy sticks like normal
  10. Haha don't think I have the patience to make the colours myself. That's a great offer Steve, we really enjoy using the last bowl you gave me and would love to add to the collection sometime. The log was too heavy for the winch so used the 360 to drag it up the hill so I don't think any bows will come from this lump. Once I've got it out and presentable I'll stick a pic up and get some opinions on the best way to process it. I did get a few decent yew logs that are available, open to any offers however low just want them gone.
  11. Got to get the bugger out first. It's a biomass job but this log needs to find a better home than the chipper. About 5m long ATM but heavy at that. Will put some pics up tonight when it's out and trimmed up
  12. Felled this today and thought the colours where worth sharing. Winched it over last thing so will extract it tomorrow
  13. He's on holiday but if it's the 600 bandtracks in the fj he knows G
  14. Hi guys I'm after some dry 2 inch quarter sawn oak boards. Ideally 12 inch or wider. 2 at 1.8m and 2 at 1.2m or just two 3m boards. I'm in Brighton but happy to collect if it's not too far. Thanks Graham
  15. Easy there Al! Doors are my specialty, you'll have to ask someone else about rolling machines (except trailers they don't count if no one sees it).
  16. I think it sold for £4 a cube
  17. Think its judas tree, saw some pink flowers coming from the stem in the spring
  18. Thanks for the offer, waiting until Monday to own up to the boss and work out how we proceed (who foots the bill). (I think I know where all my overtime is going) But unless Spud has jumped on the spares offer I may get back to you later. Thanks again for the quick helpful advice and lets all remember not to leave kit in the brash 👍
  19. Yep part of the crankcase. Balls Is it worth buying a new case or just buy a new saw and have lots of spares? Its only 1 yr old and not done much work. Thanks for the reply Spud
  20. That special moment when you realise the tree you just cut landed on someone's saw. As per title anyone know if it can be fixed? And where?
  21. I've been following some of the threads on arbtalk for a while now and its about time i contributed. Here are a few things I have made over the last few years mostly for my girlfriend. The hearts are all made from salvaged decking from Brighton pier, I think the wood is Jarrah(?). The heart with holes has a 2nd drilled out and rattling around inside and the linked hearts were from one lump, no glue thats cheating.
  22. So after your encouragement I carried out another length of the ivy, over 5 feet, that makes near 9 ft in the garden and 3 more waiting in the woods. If anyone wants some let me know and we can try to sort out getting it to you, I'll never get around to using it all. And the ends have been painted with undercoat, hope that's alright
  23. Thanks, I'm back on that site tomorrow (maybe the last day) and didn't know if I should sweat out some more. There must be 10 feet of similar diameter ivy. I might bribe my mate and try for a longer log.
  24. I found some large ivy and carried a bit out of the woods we were working in. I'm thinking about turning a bowl or two from it, just wondering if anyone has tried this from ivy before and with what success? The ivy log is next to my 260 with 16inch bar.
