Take it off and try it, it's only a five minute job. My 036 has a two piece muffler and I took it off to drill the baffle. Don't know if it makes any more power but it's no louder.

MS 036 -- how easy will it be to get parts for this model?

I have an 036, no MS in front of it and it seems to use the same parts as the MS360. I haven't used it in a while I also have the 044 and a MS460 that I bought as fixer uppers. I haven't had any problems with them since but they do spend a lot of time in the shed. -
