  1. As far as I know, the Dolmar 5000 series have had more fatal failures than any other saw design of decent quality, so reliability hardly is their stong point.
  2. I wouldn't want any of them, too clumcy and heavy for a 50cc saw, unless you just block logs in the yard. My 5100SH never follows me into the woods for those reasons, it stays in the yard, and seldom is used even there - and the current 5105 is heavier than the 5100S.
  3. ...or the drive sprocket worn out, or the chain the wrong pitch for the sprockets?
  4. Are you saying that the brake is on, when you adjust the chain tension?
  5. A 44 mm bore cylinder /48.7 cc was used at least up to some time in 2004 - maybe longer, with the exception of the "detuned" EPA version for the US market. Those also had a much more resticted muffler, and made 3.2 hp vs. 3.5 on most (if not all) other markets. The stroke always was 32 mm on the 026/MS260.
  6. A (full) chisel .325 .058 that takes 4.5 mm file would be the now discontinued 34LG (unless it is the "green" 34SL) if Oregon, and it certainly would be wrong to go up in file size at the end of the cutters "life" - rather the other way around (as always)..... If it is Stihl, it would be 25TS (Topic Super, also discontinued), but I assume it wasn't/isn't. Looking closer at that listing, I suspect there are some misprints/mistakes there - I wouldn't trust it....
  7. And now I got confused again.....
  8. Yes, it works with some saws, not with others. I don't know how it is with the 420/421...
  9. Then it is 95vpx/H30. Of course it would.
  10. That's what I likely would run on that saw as well!
  11. The reason that the 420/421 comes with a spur is of course the same reason that it has a 3 digit model number - it is meant as a semi-pro saw, and not a pro saw.
  12. It always is nice to share such info, specially when it isn't obvious!
  13. What Oregon chain is rebranded as Dolmar 484, 21BPX or 95VPX? It surely is a "green" semi chisel, as it has larger rakers than LPX....
  14. Of course it works, but it is much rougher on the chain, not as smooth as a rim setup - and the cost of replacement is of course higher for a drum with a spur, than for just a rim. The way a spur wears also has more impact on function than with a rim. Flexibility also is better with a rim setup, as you can use different rims on the same drum.
  15. Yes, that is the one that is listed for 3/8" rims (501 59 80-02) - but in reality you can use a 3/8x7 rim on the small spline one as well - it just is a different 3/8x7 rim (that Husky doesn't list for the 357, but you still can order it from them - 504 52 30-02). I have one of those on my 560xpg at the moment, and on at least one more saw. 3/8x7 is the only rim size that is availiable for both spline sizes, unless you get into "costume" made pin-type rims, like Danzco.
  16. According to the last 357xp IPL (2010), the oiler gear for small spline drum is 503 91 27-03, and for the standard (often called large) spline drum it is 503 91 29-03.
  17. I assume installing a new one solves the issue then?
  18. It is really odd that I haven't heard of this on any forum before - but there always is something new to learn about. Could it just be a batch of parts that isn't within specs?
  19. It can't be that hard to obtain a list of when a shop is open?
  20. That seems to be the consensus - I would want nothing to do with them.
  21. Make sure yo get the right size piston. Some cylinders are 44 mm, others are 44.7 (the change started with the US EPA saws). Check the bore before you order anything. Meteor has a stellar reputation for their aftermarket pistons.
  22. Maybe by now, but there used to be many more. It is really sad that Dolmar have followed Stihl into the inboard clutch trap...
  23. Yes, and it shares that design with the MS241 (sadly). It isn't a neat design on a small saw, as it pyshers the bar further out to the side, which upsets the handling of the saw. A simolar design is the reason I never use my 5100S in the woods - the handling isn't anywhere near as good as with the 346xp, for limbing etc.
  24. My only small question is what oiler drive gear to use - but until proven wrong I believe the stock one will do, as I never have seen any indications that it doesn't.
  25. Drum and rim setups from the 5000-series will fit. Those use the small 7-spline rims, that are availiable in .325x7, .325x8, and 3/8"x7 from the major rim suppliers (but not from Stihl). .325x7 is what you want on the 420.
