  3. Hi all, I am hoping to gain some knowledge and advice on the above. Anything you guys and girls can add to this thread would be really appreciated. Basically I have been asked by a woodland owner who I currently already work for to look in to the possibility of chipping timber from his 200 acre woodland to create biomass chip to help run the 5 new boilers he has just installed to heat his chicken sheds. We are also looking at installing a small scale drying system so we can dry around 20 ton of chip a week. My question is what is the best chipper/tractor setup for this operation. I have looked at TP chippers and the 10 inch model seems good value. And I have also looked at a Valtra 8150 to power it. Would this be a good setup? Ideally I would need to crane feed the chipper and I think the jake plate mounted crane seem the best as the tractor will also be used for forwarding and winching timber. This is a fairly vague overview I know but am trying to keep it as short as possible. Any ideas and questions greatly received thanks in advance.
  4. Perhaps I have underpriced then
  5. Thanks tom d that's a big help.
  6. Or even how much to charge for the tractor and winch.
  7. I could ideally do with a rough idea of a day or hourly rate for the above setup. Cheers all.
  8. Thanks hodge much appreciated.

  10. He doesn't seem to worried about leaving the stumps high either, but if it is a skyline path then probably doesn't matter so much.thats some fast felling though.
  11. We use a jcb telehandler to tow this trailer on the road everyday. It got a 40k gearbox and boom suspension so is very nice to drive on the road also it's 135 hp so pretty good for towing still a bit steady on the hills with a full load.
  12. We would be interested in a couple of loads could you send me a contact telephone number. Cheers.
  13. Hi Alec, I can't remember exactly who supplied us with the Alaskan mill I will look at the paperwork tomorrow and let you know if you like. Anyway we told them what we are planning to do and the supplied us with the rails already joined and a very nice job they did of it.
  14. Yes they will fall apart we are making pallets to slide the pieces in order on to after cutting. The very clever chap who is making them in to tables then fill all the cracks and splits with anything you like. I.e glass , bronze , copper even gold if you have the money.
  15. They are 2 standard 4 feet rails joined together in the middle to make 8 feet.
  16. This is our new chainsaw mill. 2 stihl ms 880's mounted on a specially made cannon 8 foot bar. We bought this rig to do a very special job for one of our customers. We have got to cut 4x 3.5 inch discs off the end of a 6.5 feet across oak butt to be made into tables[/ATTACH]

  19. I use the long handle Handsappie from f r jones. Very good well made piece of kit and I think it was only about £40. Use it a lot alongside the processor and retrieving cog ends out of the water on river jobs.
