  1. Hello all, Putting out the feelers for any climbing jobs in the North West. I am currently on course obtaining my CS38 / CS39 / CS50, all going well I should be qualified and ready for work post 25th of May. I am looking for employment in the North West, ideally Manchester and North Yorkshire. I am based in Rochdale. Although I do not have any experience doing a climbing job yet, I have a wealth of transferable skills, including a full UK driving license with heavy goods, and a CPCS card for excavator 360. Further to these skills, I possess all the attributes of a recent service leaver, including a good team ethos, an excellent work ethic, sense of humour and commitment to get the job done in a safe and efficient manner. I am not fussy as to job status, would love a full time job but will take contract work, and open to the idea of part time work. So, if you are employing or have a big job coming up in my area, and you want another hard working dedicated bloke on your team give me a shout. Thank you for reading.
  2. Hello mate, regarding the trousers, type A provide protection to the front of the legs only, and type C provide protection all round the legs, type C are worn by climbers, so if your aim is to become a climber of buy type C. As for the classes of trousers have a look at this: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chainsaw_safety_clothing Half way down the page is a table showing the classes, and their respective chain speed protection, chain speed varies with different chainsaws, so depends what chainsaw you are going to be using etc. I've got a pair of stein phantom boots and so far so good, quite comfortable but I have narrow feet. As for gloves I have a pair of Oregon chainsaw gloves and they seem to do the job so far, As for Helmets, don't buy a ground helmet if you want to be a climber, will save you some money in the long run if you just buy a climbers helmet, I've got a stein plasma helmet on order from FRjones, check out their website got a big range of kit and it's free delivery for orders over £50. Hope this helps. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. I'd love to have a store the size of yours, but the ball and chain wouldn't approve I don't think Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Lol yeah I see what you mean about the writing on the timber but I'm not bothered about that too much. No worries Axholme, the thought never crossed my mind, however whilst making it I did think I could make them for a living, in sure a profit could be made if you got the timber delivered to the customers address and build on site? When you look at the cost of small wood stores, considering that only cost £150 to make could there be a potential £100 profit? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Well to be honest Axholme I'm between work at the moment looking for work experience before I get my cs30/31/38/39/50 starting next month, so I'm living off savings and the last army pay check until I get a job between courses, so labour wasn't an issue, but yeah it would have been a full days work Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. Cheers terry, yeah I did consider putting it on bricks and maybe putting a damp proof course type material on the bricks, as for the height, I'm 6ft, and the front comes to the bottom of my ribs, was going to put it on hinges but meant that when the roof was up I couldn't lean very far into the store because of the front support bar. As for the option to go taller and narrower I suppose I was a bit lazy and based all the measurements around the 2.4m lengths on timber lol. Thanks for the feedback Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Cheers mate, well I'd check your local timber merchant first, as the materials were going to cost another £100 from B&Q, may save that bit extra from your local merchant. Good luck with the build Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. hello all, thought id share some photos of my log store, I built it yesterday after being put off by the price of log stores. In total the store cost £150, the price included all the wood which is treated, the OSB for the roof and the screws. Yet to finish the roof, just need to trim and tack the sides of the felt. The store has been completed to a high standard - I like to think - and took all day 1000-1800 to complete. Well happy with the result, as a store a quarter the size would have cost £170 - £200 depending on location (up north / down south) Yet to measure the volume of the store, will post that up later in the day. Thank you for reading, any comments / questions / criticism are all welcome, just go easy on the criticism

  10. Hello all, I am a very recent service leaver looking for work experience prior to obtaining my cs30/31/38/39 tickets in the forthcoming months. I am looking for experience within 30 miles of Rochdale as mentioned in the subject of this post. I am very keen to show any potential employers who may be out there what I can bring to the table. I am a hard worker with a great sense of humour and a willingness to learn. Thank you for reading my post, I am available the week beginning 08/04/13, with my cs30/31 commencing 15/04/13. Whether it be a day or two or the whole week I would be very grateful if you would bear me in mind if you need someone to brash drag or just carry out a bit of general labour. Many thanks, Gordon Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  12. hello all, anyone know of any decent arborist supply shops in the north west? looking for PPE, possibly a saw, but mainly i want to try on a few pairs of safety boots, rather than buying online and finding they are not quite right. anything near Rochdale / Huddersfield / North and South manchester would be ideal. Thanks in advance
