1. bigdave, Top man, just the sort of answer i was after..! Just got to wait on these invoices and i'll pick one of them up. Many thanks Arbtalkers. Regards, Steve.
 2. It's an S - what's the difference please? The first one has a straight ram and the cheaper one has a scissor type arrangement for the ram to go on to. Regards, Steve.
 3. Cheers Sylvaarb, Many thanks for your reply. I'd seen specs for new vans on a site and was concerned that the towing capacity was only 2800kg, hopefully this one is the same as yours - chipper's no problem but one of the trailers is 3.5t. I have an O license for another company and a class 1 hgv so the bigger Ivecos would make more sense, however i'm trying to move away from all the tachos/ six weeklies etc. and have one less thing to concern myself with (i know they can be stretched to 10/12 weeks). Also it means i'm tied to the vehicle if no-one else has the right license. As regards overloading - i know it will be as they all are!, i'm more concerned with whether it looks overloaded (sorry officer:blushing:). Agreed with the better looks and when signwritten it'll look really good, it's got good white paintwork at the moment. Just spotted an 05 plate for £3.5k that looks pretty clean, i'll have to phone them though as i can't see the bed really being 12.7' long! Regards, Steve.
 4. Cheers fella, I know my way round a vehicle mechanically, just haven't studied the Iveco/Tranny/Cabstar etc. ins and outs. Regards, Steve.
 5. Evening Guys/Girls, I have a lot of experience in the world of pick-ups and 7.5 - 26 ton+ hiab areas, but have not yet got involved in the 3.5t tipper arena. I know most people run the Tranny tippers but an Iveco has come up and i really like the look of it. It's a '54 plate with 120k on the clock but looks mint with a two year old bed (unfortunately steel). The guy's asking just over £4k. So: 1. Seems like a fair price? 2. How do the Ivecos compare to Trannies on fuel? 3. Do they carry the weight well or do they look overloaded? 4. I'm guessing that the insurance might not be as bad as a Tranny? Just waiting on a couple of invoices to be paid and i'm good to go, just need to make sure i'm buying with my head not my heart.... Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Steve.
 6. Christ, how big's your 'Old Chap' ? If brains were dynamite you wouldn't have enough to blow your nose If brains were cotton wool you wouldn't have enough to make a Tampax for a flea I've forgotten more than you'll ever know Your knowledge of (fill as appropriate) wouldn't fill a postage stamp You were given two ears but only one mouth for a reason And a couple my Father really said; There was a song once - how many nappies changed, no charge and once (in jest) when i said i didn't ask to be born he replied 'if you did you'd have been refused.....'
 7. GardenKit, Couldn't agree more with your post. I would have loved to place last weeks order locally but was really pushed for money so with heavy heart i went online with one of the 'Next Day Emporiums' (retail premises as well - trying to level the playing field) and tapped away late on Wednesday for a weekend job. Order turned up the following Tuesday - not impressed. Guess where next week's big order is going? Order over the phone and pick up next day on way back from job. The couple of quid extra will be nothing compared to a lost job or being pushed down the line for servicing etc. When buying a product cheapest price wins. When buying a service you get what you pay for. If you need the service after buying the product, you have to consider whether the few quid you saved on the product was worth it in the long run. Just wish i could afford to buy everything locally. Steve.

Hi Haljam,

Just found your post about The Dutch Garden Centre for taking chip, i've got a shed load of connie which is obviously very green and not really woodchip - are they ok with this or will they only take woody stuff.

Many thanks in advance,

Steve.

 9. The trouble with free advice is you get exactly what you pay for.
 10. Don't make my mistakes - learn from them. Then make your own mistakes and learn from them too. Dad never said this, I just did - but then i'm a Dad so does that count?
 11. Don't do as I do, do as I say you should do
 12. Short answer - Yes, it would be a very good idea to do that, but he appears to have gone offline and i'm not going to start phoning people at this hour (11pm) I'll give him a call in the morning, my reply was as much for posterity as anyone searching for teams in the Cardiff area in the future would see this, hopefully a few posts down the line followed by - 'Thanks Steve, you did a great job and the customer is really happy, won't hesitate to use or recommend you again.' As a well known supermarket states - Every little helps:thumbup: Regards, Steve.
 13. Not my Dad, but my Maths teacher (many, many moons ago:blushing:) 'I'll give you enough rope to hang yourself and let you carry on....' How many times have i passed that one on?
 14. Hi treebloke, Yes very interested, what exactly do you require? We're based 20mins from Cardiff. I'm on 01446 719969 or much better 07734 543970. Next week I have jobs that can be moved around if necessary without upsetting people too much if it's urgent. Website is below - talk to me and we can sort you out:thumbup1: Look forward to being of service. Kind regards, Steve.
 15. Born free and taxed to death ! The older i get, the faster i was Upon hearing something disagreeable from an employee - 'funny way to hand in your notice...' Guy works for me is an ex Royal Marine and all i ever hear is 'pain is merely a sensation - and sensations are to be enjoyed' From here i must admit to having adopted - you can't polish a turd:thumbup1: Also for employees grumbling about weather - skin's waterproof ! Many more, but that's it for now.....
 16. +1 If you trade knowing you're insolvent you become personally liable for the debts. Also try opening a bank account for a ltd co without personally underwriting it.....
 17. No, i have no income. Wife gets the dividend and the CSA take the rest
 18. Been doing it for years and i'm with my accountant tomorrow. As a director you're not subject to minimum wage rules, so i don't actually earn any PAYE. Have just had a letter mind saying as there's a gap in my NI contributions my Gov pension will suffer. Not expecting much from them anyway.......
 19. Paslode gas does go off, i had exactly the same problem. Got 4 tubes from somewhere in Scotland off Fleabay for £15 delivered - bargain - and it was fine. There is also a special gas for lower temperatures. I'll try to find out where i got it from. HTH Steve. EDIT - here you go http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320755550742?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D320755550742%26_rdc%3D1
 20. 10% Tax and zero NI. Dividends can only be paid from profits which is a problem if you run the business at a 'loss' for tax purposes. They are paid to shareholders, not just Directors. Whichever way you do things the Government wins:thumbdown: HTH Steve.
 21. Many thanks mate, i've got Peter's details just want to see one in the flesh and Cambridge is a bit far for a quick squint and i guess he'll be at the Arb Show but that's not till June. Regards, Steve.
 22. Hi Guys, Anyone got one locally? I'm based in the Vale of Glamorgan and unfortunately own a Navara ('58 plate D40 Double cab). Does anyone have or know of one anywhere near South Wales i could have a look at as i'm seriously considering one. As far as i know they're £1800 plus the dreaded for the base model, but it saves me changing vehicles. I'm curious as to how the tailgate works without damaging the rear end - does it ride on the tow hitch? TIA Steve.
 23. So many to chose from on youtube, here's your starter for ten [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB3o9DbH-EM&feature=related]tree removal service FAIL - YouTube[/ame]
 24. Evening all, I would just like to say a HUGE public thankyou to Mac Taylor at Greenmech and his MD Jonathan Turner. My CS100 went poorly last week costing me considerable downtime on a job. A quick search on here revealed a possible reason thanks to a post by Ty Korrigan in France. A call to Mac Taylor in the Tech/Service dept of Greenmech saw me well on the way to a quick stripdown of the unit to confirm our suspicions. Mac was only too happy to jump to the phone every time i rang and Jonathan was very benevolent in his supplying of parts to repair. What is so great about this? The machine is a 2009 model that i bought second hand!! Many, many thanks guys, i'll build it up tomorrow and get back to work:thumbup: I must just also say that for the cost and size it's a cracking piece of kit.
 25. Cheers fella, bit of a night owl and a new born baby to boot! A mate's sorting me out with his TP150 for the weekend so i don't lose the job:thumbup1:
