  1. Thank you Tony, I've had a quick read here - Trametes versicolor: The Turkey Tail (MushroomExpert.Com) (not sure whether it's a good reference or not) and it would appear that either way the fungi is there because the wood is dead. As this is at the base of a sizeable Beech within striking range of a public road and pathway (not visible, but in the background of the photos) possibly something more detailed than a practised ear with a wooden mallet may be in order. With so many mixed reports on the accuracy of Picus, what would you recommend please? Regards, Steve.
  2. Jesse, many thanks for your input. I shall be with the client within the next week anyway for another job and will discuss this with him, just didn't want to appear to be touting for work 'oh look what i've just found under the ivy....' Regards, Steve.
  3. Isn't the habitat for this dead wood? That wouldn't be promising.
  4. Having said that, if it went the other way it's straight over the main road into the village.......
  5. Only lawn and driveway, unless the young family are playing or picnicing on the lawn. Is the bench safe?
  6. Evening all, I've had a scan through the directory but can't seem to accurately match this one. The tree is a nice Beech, dbh 4'+ (from a circumference of 4m - 13') and approximately 70' high. It sits on the edge of a mixed stand comprising Lime, Beech, Sycamore, Horse Chestnut and a lot of Holly in a Conservation Area. It has a slight lean away from the stand and across a nice lawn (now the moles have moved on!). The fungi is on the side it is leaning towards, darker at the bottom, there is an amount of white mould/mildew and some missing bark. Several years ago i removed a very large Sycamore next to it which was absolutely rotten to the core. The client is very keen that the tree stays and hopes that having removed the ivy to expose the fungi, that full ivy removal followed by 'a treatment and some sunshine' it will all disappear. Surely the tree is safe, it would be a shame to see it go (but it would be a nice little job!)
  7. Stress will be the same. Same weight will be acting on the driveshaft/ wheel bearings, wheel studs etc. Only difference will be not sitting so low (or on the bump stops ) Interested in seeing the cost for the Iveco.
  8. WTF? I had to RTFM for the last one
  9. Like this The Largest List of Text Message Shorthand (IM, SMS) and Internet Acronyms Found of the Web - kept current and up-to-date by NetLingo The Internet Dictionary: Online Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms, Acronyms, Text Messaging, Smileys ;-) Sorry, can't help you with Mr. Plogs though:thumbup: Regards, Steve.
  10. Hi James, SAE 15W-40 engine oil capacity 1.36-1.42l and high temp. grease for the bearings. HTH Steve.
  11. Hi Darrin and welcome, I take it to retrieve after lowering, the climber must unclip the figure of eight and pull the line up himself as a groundy couldn't? If there's a chance of the line falling off the shoulders while slack (before the weight comes on from the piece being cut) then locking up, i'd swop it for ISC 30kn figure of eight (stainless steel) | F R Jones and Son which i've used for lowering the chipper down a steep bank (CS100 before you panic!) Not being picky - just my thoughts Regards, Steve.
  12. You have the drum out so you've got the one bearing off already, just the four bolts to take it off the cassette housing. Same process for the pulley end bearing. The cassette is the whole shooting match isn't it (housing, drum, bearings etc.)? If you've got a new cassette housing coming and are getting new bearings, why do you need to take the old bearing off the shaft if it's all scrap? I got a new drum and bearings so just fitted them to the old cassette housing. HTH Steve.
  13. That'll be why one blade is closer to the anvil than the other! Exactly the same as mine. You can see that the weld hasn't penetrated the blade bed hence the failure. Oh and don't drop that drum on your foot without toe-caps either
  14. January this year on the second day i used it. All good now except i sent the blades off for sharpening to a well known machine knife company who ignored me telling them that they're 27 degrees and sharpened them to 30 degrees so when i refitted them it wouldn't chip despite being sharp enough to shave with:thumbdown: Other than that a great machine, fantastic piece of kit for the money.
  15. What year is your machine just out of interest? Mine's a 2009 and guess how i know about this Regards, Steve.

  17. Sounds like the welds have cracked on the drum. As the rpm's increase centrifugal force throws the blade beds out further hence the noise increasing. You won't see this until you take the drum out of the cassette - enjoy getting those bearings off Speak to Mac Taylor in Greenmech's workshop, he's an absolutely top bloke and will talk you through it. Pm your email and i'll sort some photos for you. Unless someone wants to show me how to stick photos in threads:thumbup1: Regards, Steve.
  18. Cheers Graham, but i was looking at this fleet as a previous thread told me to look for the 3l 140hp engines and these ones have ali sides too (as all 3.5t arb trucks are overloaded {allegedly:blushing:} every little helps:001_smile:).
  19. This has just been listed IVECO DAILY MWB TIPPER 2005(05) | eBay but is 217k miles.
  20. It was the low mileage one i had earmarked but sodding Barclaycard Commercial took a few grand out of my bank account which they weren't due and took two weeks to put it back:jumping38:
  21. Hi Swinny, They're the two i missed from Nick Murray in Manchester. They're both sold - a guy had one and then emailed him to say he'd take the other. Good photos though. They were 99k and 126k on the clock. Regards, Steve.
  22. Hi Graham, Thanks for the reply. I only have photos at the moment and should be looking at it on Monday - it looks ok so far. It's got a straight ram on a steel bed with what looks like ali sides. He's asking £4k +VAT but i'm not paying that. There's one for £5k +VAT and it's got a couple of bits missing but it's only 70k miles. If i had the extra i'd go for the lower mileage one. I want to get a few years out of it. Regards, Steve.
