  1. Hi guys! Thanks Ty really helpful mate and Nfg! did try google.fr but kept getting uk results back! Hopefully I can find something and make it happe , if not I'll just have to reside there at weekends!
  2. Hi all! Does anyone know of any tree firms/buisness around the Nice area in the South of France? Family are relocating there potentially next year and have offered me a few acres on which i can build a house. Had a search but not much luck, probably the way i have been phrasing my google searches! Any help or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! J
  3. Offer honest advice on the work prospect anyway*
  4. I went the other way mate. RA to tree work. If you have a trade then you stand a chance, if not then you're gunna be doing odd jobs here and there, painting, cleaning, mastic etc.. The work isn't regular and unless you're employed by a company, you will probably struggle, especially at first! Speak to some company's and contractors before you invest into it (personally I wouldn't speak to a firm that trains as they will probably be after your coin rather than offer advice), you will have to renew your irata every 3 years, get your own kit etc..
  5. Smell great when you send one through a chipper aswell! Always makes me hungry
  6. After a year working in 40+ degrees in Australian bush and suburb, one thing along with lots of water.. Watermelon!!!
  7. Wet* cheers Tom, I'd spotted they're recruiting will be in touch with them! Hope works keeping you boys busy
  8. Out in the bush and all over wa, sa and Adelaide. Love it here bro but have to come home for a bit! Thanks Big T, appreciate that mate!! Glad I'm coming home to some nice weather, middle of winter here right now! Mild but a bit set!
  9. Jeansey, thanks mate I will definitely get in touch! Where in oz did you work? Not much to hold on to in the gums eh haha
  10. Ideally Cornwall/Newquay, lands end, Penzance but ill go to where the work is. Cheers chaps!
  11. Hi all. I am returning after a year working in Australia end of this month and I'm looking to move down the West Country (close to surf and good rock climbing). Does anyone know of any good or recruiting tree company's down that way? I'm not bothered if they are a small business or large, just be happy to be working in the industry in passionate about. Any tips or pointers big or small would be greatly appreciated!! J
  12. Where abouts do you rock climb? I'm just the other side of tunbridge wells when I'm in england
  13. All they will throw your way is incinerator work in Maidstone. Don't do it, money is crap and you have to wait 60 days after sending the invoice off to get paid! Long shifts and crap management! I was doing rope access before tree work, have a years experience now. Did cs30 31 38 39. Irata won't convert over mate have to do the tickets. I came to oz and got my foot in the arb world starting here. My irate just ran out, don't think I'll bother renewing it, bit of a hit n miss industry even when you have a trade to do on the ropes
  14. Thanks for all the great info mate! I will be coming to New Zealand but on holiday now, as today I've been offered sponsorship to stay in oz!!
  15. Great info taupo! Very helpful mate thanks a lot! Do you know how long a uk citizen can work for one employer for on a holiday visa by any chance? I've seen it's 3months for other countries but couldn't find anything for UK apart from your employer can request for it to be extended
  16. That's it treequip, no work back home for me so set off to find work and a stable career elsewhere and see the world at the same time! Threw myself in at the deep end and definitely learnt fast! Have been doing utility, municipal and residential tree work and learnt a lot so far
  17. Yeah I guess so, looking at the Wikipedia definition of it, I fall under climbing and pruning definition for arborist. I plan to gain ISA level 3 and then I'd call myself an arborist once I have experience under my belt! Thanks for your input fellas!
  18. I would call myself a tree surgeon as I don't hold any further qualifications but most people in oz dont use the term tree surgeon and use lopper or arborist. A working holiday has restrictions to taking up permanent employment, tax and a few others. Skilled migrant allows permanent employment and gain residency a lot easyer
  19. Hi all. Relatively new to the arb world, got qualified in England and came straight out to oz straight after for work, not one to sit around and wait for work. Been very busy here and learnt a lot and now wanting to see what new zealands all about! Im about to apply for a visa for new zealand. I want to apply under the skilled migrant catagory rather than working holiday. Im a bit confused as to wether I title myself as an arborist or not, I don't want to be misleading or dishonest in applying. I have CS30,31,38 and 39 and a years experience. Can I apply as an arborist? Many thanks for any help chaps!
  20. Hold on tight when you next descend I had the same problem but with my helmet, straps and inners were soaked through with oil, bit of scrubbing with swarfega and it was a gooden! Not sure about fairy liquid on rope though! J
  21. Amazing pic Xaltu! I can't wait to get back on the water and have a paddle! Surfing has taken over as im in oz at the moment! Enjoy the water chaps! J
  22. I'm personally not a fan of the Stein X2's mate, to me they feel bulky under foot and don't fit my leg properly. Not a massive fan of the velcro strap/fixed shape for your leg. But saying that, my friend climbs on them and he loves them! See if you can try them before you buy. J
  23. Hi mate! I would highly recommend Bashlins with a straight shank! I used to use Stein X2s with the velcro but wasn't a massive fan of the way they fitted and felt. Also the velcro gets pretty crappy when everything starts sticking to it. J
