  1. They certainly weren’t as bad as what’s happening right now. Did you feel more threatened by the BLM protests than what’s going on right now?
  2. I’ve never suggested that. Nope, never said that. I’ve since said that I believe the intent behind them does affect the circumstances. But I’ve never said the law should be applied differently. I’ve merely pointed out that the mobs on the streets right now are carrying out far more serious crimes and hopefully their sentencing reflects that. Comparing them to BLM and pro Palestinian protestors, as you did, is just ridiculous.
  3. The reason is absolutely relevant. The Leeds riots, misguided as they were, were about children being taken from a community. The current riots are against people of colour. The very essence of what’s going on right now is hatred and intolerance. edit: and I do actually believe that that reasoning affects the material facts in these cases.
  4. The difference is their actions, surely you can see that? I don’t remember seeing BLM protestors dragging anyone out of their cars while people screamed ‘kill them’ and ‘stab them’. I don’t remember pro Palestinian protestors looting small businesses and burning police cars. I don’t remember any of them breaking into refugee accommodation to, at the very least, scare the living shit out of some of the most vulnerable in this country. So while they should, and will, be held to the same standards; their actions are blatantly abhorrent in comparison. Trying to compare them to peaceful protestors just shows what a low life you are…
  5. Interesting talking point. You aren’t wrong in that there’s little organisation there, it’s not as though they stand for anything, they just stand against a lot. If you look at the definition of terrorism I believe that it’s basically on the money. While there isn’t a political manifesto, there is a political aim of ‘getting rid of ethnic minorities’. Which coincidentally aligns very closely with the likes of Farage. Given that just stop oil protestors were jailed for four years a truly hope that these scum get to rot in their own filth for many years to come.
  6. No, what’s your point?
  7. I think the far right care little about the truth and far more about justifying their hateful stance by any means. So yes, exaggeration and fabrication, which they’ve been doing for years, are absolutely believable. Right?! I’m very against the tighter security in what is already one of the most surveilled countries in the world. But I’m more against racist pieces of sh** making other peoples lives awful. Send the police in the brush up on their brutality I say. That lot deserve every bit of it.
  8. Some of the stuff I’ve seen pop up today and over the past week has been utterly disgusting. Seeing people being dragged from their car by mobs screaming ‘kill them’, I find hard to watch the way our country is slipping right now. And that’s as a white British person. For a non-white British person it must be utterly terrifying. This is the clear and obvious progression of the Farage/Robinson anti immigrant rhetoric though. It’s not surprising at all, just utterly vile. That they still have a platform is a disgrace.
  9. Yeah, they probably should be eh? I found that turning the sheeve by hand it was a bit lumpy, but under load it was totally fine. No play in it. No idea why, but it's not been an issue.
  10. A little bit of a bumpy feeling when brand new is fairly normal I think, I always presume it’s just the bearings settling in or something? The small pintos have bushings rather than bearings.
  11. I had a charger and 200x battery die on me out of nowhere. Both were covered under warranty for me thankfully, but only just. I’ve got a few bits of husky battery kit and they’re good tools, but they’re built like toys. Ditto the batteries and chargers.
  12. I’ve worked with a fair number of Ash that have recovered pretty well. Particularly older trees where there’s ADB, but not too awful. Early stages management of dead wood seems a very reasonable approach. I’m not saying it’s insignificant, but there are definitely those who are a little trigger happy as soon as Ash are looking a bit peeky.
  13. Yeah I’ve done loads of Sirius, both 8 & 10mm. It’s a pretty easy line tbh. Maybe try a thinner wire for the fid, or just buy one from treeworker. Thats what I do. If your measurements are on point, then it’s either your technique or tools causing issues. I’d suggest it’s probably a bit of both if you’re having that much grief. It looks like you ended up with a tidy splice though, but like I said, if it’s that hard then something’s not right.
  14. A hollow fid won't help. A wire fid is my go to for basically all double braid, you need a longer one which you can attach to a secure anchor though. If you're really struggling it's because you've done something wrong. Find measurements you trust and be really meticulous with them.
  15. OP thimble loop used 8mm cord and a larger thimble. I’m fairly sure it needs the red retrieval cone which won’t pass through a small pinto.
  16. Dunno like... Looks like a rebranded Jiang su ropes and belts offering.
  17. As in , screw into the grey webbing? Seems a bit strange to be poking holes in the load bearing webbing? I thought these were just a moveable termination, allowing you to shorten webbing if it was too long.
  18. Depends on configuration, the thimble loop can absolutely be a piece of life support though and it's definitely correct for it to be LOLER'd. You're right though, it's a thinner cord, might even be 6mm ocean dyneema, it also has a 2 year lifespan rather I believe.
  19. He’s on holiday, not working 😂 Heard plenty of bad press about the tree motion pro, I’d rather pay the extra for a well made product. Lifespan on my TM evo is five years, I’m pretty sure these are ten . After ten years it’ll be better value for money. I’ll wait for the non adjustable bridge version though.
  20. Using the same stuff they give you for treemotion gear loops is a little more streamlined 😉 been running one for 5 years now, works very well and is tidy. No copper pipe on mine 😂
  21. While not a particularly large tree, it sounds like this is beyond your experience and abilities. I’d suggest ringing someone who knows what they’re doing rather than making the situation worse or getting yourself hurt.
  22. I caused root plate failure of a 25cm alder and a similar sized lime using them as winching anchors while pulling logs around. Separate occasions. The lime was in waterlogged soil while the alder was in about 10cm of soil on top of hard core. I’ve anchored onto little bushes and the likes plenty though. Soil and roots play a massive part.
  23. When was that? Because arborisk whacked up all their premiums a few years ago regardless. Mine doubled at renewal for no reason and I went to trust too.
  24. There are loads of big old trees in Cologne. In Germany they have a classification of tree that translates as something like ‘nature monument’, like veterans basically. In Cologne the city takes on the management of all these trees, whether they’re on private or public land. I worked in that contract for a company and we were going at it for months. Cemeteries in particular seem too have a load of trees round there. The red oaks, plane trees and poplars I worked on around Cologne were all on a scale I’ve not seen elsewhere. Some real monsters, great fun. So yeah, loads of interesting trees…
  25. Only rock climbers are soft enough to cry about padding. Padding!? Want to try caving harnesses, nothing but a crusty old bit of webbing to em. 1000m+ deep caves in one of those will leave its mark.
