I brought a pair of these about a year ago as they have very high ankle support and having broken my ankle a few years back I tend to go for tall ankle support boots. They were really really comfy!! However the sole was almost worn out after about 5 months and around the same time 2 lace loop/hooks broke off. Thankfully these were replaced under warranty with another pair of the same boots because I was so happy with how supportive and comfy they were. However to my horror the new replacement pair had three lace loop/hooks break off within 2 weeks of wearing them. Haven't yet used the "timberline" sharpened chain yet as I'm not back on the saws until Friday, so can't comment on how well it's cutting yet. I would also like to clarify, my sharpening ability with a round file is absolutely fine. The reason for the purchase is that I have recently lost access to a nice vice and I don't think my housemates wouldn't be too happy if I bolted one to the kitchen counter. I do agree with previous posts, the finished result hasn't got as big a hook as I usually file however, the proof will be in the cutting on Friday

Correct, the carbide cutters are tapered for the 1st half inch (ish) so yes it begins removing metal before the cutters is all the way through the barrel, the taper isn't massively aggressive as you can see in the photo. Therefore if the chain is really damaged you would have to go round the chain a couple of times.

As requested some photos of the cutters, keep in mind that this is the first time the chain has been sharpened. Obviously this is a semi chisel so can't comment on its ability to create a nice point on a full chisel but will test it on a full chisel soon.

So as a freelancer who takes pride in his equipment and would be embarrassed to turn up on site with a dull chain. And who also doesn't have the luxury of a workshop with a bench mounted vice or grinder I decided to purchase a Timberline chainsaw sharpening kit along with the carbide cutter 5/32, 3/16 and 7/32 to cover all my saws. It arrived this morning so thought I'd give it a go on my 550 on which the chain was new on Sunday however rather dull by the end of the day. The set up was very easy and once you have adjusted for one cutter on one side you don't need to readjust for the other side unless you've previously sharpened the cutters unevenly. I had a slight hiccup by getting the carbide cutter jammed in the sharpening mount but that was user error as I hadn't applied any oil to the shaft of the cuter (only needed a drop) However after rectifying it seems to have sharpened very well. I can't comment on how well as I haven't had an opportunity to use the saw today but as soon as it gets used next I will report back. So far I'm impressed and very pleased, easy to use, can be used anywhere as no power needed and no clamping of the saw in place needed either. Only negative I have at the moment is the price!! It is rather pricey!! Have any of you guys used this before or had any good/bad experiences with it?

Does it have to be chipped or can you just put brush in them? I may be in the market for one too?

Also if you were soaked in water and exposed to extreme heat the water would turn to steam and actually increase the risk of burns

£600 for a 2 bed semi! Jesus you're lucky... I pay £750 per month for a room and there's 6 of us in the house!!!

A lot of those planes do tent to lean toward the road. It only takes a small dip in the road, maybe a drain to cause a HGV or similar to lean toward the tree.
