  1. Rich I believe I have a video of you topping out a swamp cypress from about a year and a half ago in Sevenoaks. If you pm me your number I'll send over
  2. I understand its last minute but I've have had a cancelation, so I'm now free tomorrow (Friday 30th) should anyone need a climber or groundsman London and surrounding areas. Pm, email or call: [email protected] 07939288325 Cs30,31,32,38,39,41, Immediate emergency care 1st aid. £5m PL insurance, Saws upto 36" Climbing kit, Rigging kit, HGV (cat C) driving licence Ollie.
  3. Stone dead horse chestnut freaked me out at times!!! Not sure I'd do that again?!?!
  4. Brought a 550xpg 2 days ago, run it up today, ploughed it through a load of wood to set the AT and then felled its first tree! Massive smile on my face, what a great saw, light and nimble... I have spent far to long using a 372xp as a ground saw (great saw for the bigger stuff of course). I have to say I'm never buying a another saw without the heated handle ever again! For the extra £30 it's a no brainer!!!
  5. Available this Friday 14th and Monday 17th should any one need a climber or groundsman. Based in London/Surrey, could travel further if needed. Cs 30,31,32,38,39,41 Pm if interested Ollie
  6. I've got 9 poplars I'm planning on felling in a family members garden, Good access either through a set aside field or through the garden roughly 20-30inch diameter if you're interested in buying the timber?
  7. I had this flooding/smelling of fuel problem a few weeks ago in the sun. I thought it was due to a new fuel mixture being used, I ploughed it through a decent sized log about 10 times to retune and it's been fine after that
  8. I'm there with you, green watch
  9. Great guy! What watch are you on?
  10. The decay was pretty bad, on most of the top cuts the saw only had to touch the wood before the branches and the hinges snapped clean off!!
  11. Thanks guys! The cracks were pretty impressive throughout the tree, unfortunately my phone died so couldn't get any more photos. Looked like one of the limbs had a fracture in it too. Do you think it would be worth taking it down before it gets worse and more expensive/dangerous to remove?
  12. It had huge cracks like this all the way up several of its multiple stems.
  13. Cheers guys! Thanks for the heads up with the screws on the 372. I also got an 18" bar as well as the 24" bar for the 372 for a bit of flexibility
  14. T540xp 372xp Many many thanks to the guys at Honey Brothers
  15. Also much easier to retrieve your cambium saver with a splice
  16. You could get a rope 5m longer than needed and spliced at both ends, cut the last 5m off and you've got yourself a rope and a lanyard!!
  17. Oh rite so are you saying I should have used the class 2 splice? I was told class one by my boss?? Confused :-/!!
  18. What is the difference between the 2 classes?
  19. I think for my next attempt I'll try and splice a footlocking prusik any ideas what cord I should use?
  20. Cheers buddy, I tested the first one out today, used it while climbing an oak... Felt strange to think I was dangling off something I had spliced :-/ it didn't budge at all tho... I was soo chuffed! I guess at the end of the day the more you pull on the splice the tighter it gets ;-). Would be pretty cool to break test it!
  21. Cheers Rich! I was shown a really simple way of burying the core back into the cover using a loop of thick wire... Instead of pushing it in/through with a fid you can pull it through using a loop of thick wire entered where the fid would exit. It made it some much easier, if thats where you struggle it's well worth a try;-)
  22. Yes the standard class one double braid explained by Samson's instructions
  23. I watched a few videos on samson's and New England's website (printed off the instructions too) I also followed the instructions in the Sampson splicing book (same instructions as online I believe, just worked thought them step by step. Yesterday's took me nearly 4 hours and today's took me just 2 ;-). Ultimately saved me £20ish per splice!! Happy days!!
