I bought this setup a few weeks ago. Cost nearly £100 but I was in the market for a new ascender and I plan on getting the quickstep boots one day, as I have some of their other boots already and am very happy with them. Working really well so far although it does make one spike really heavy. I think kiwi klimbers make something similar that bolts under the gaff. Not sure of the availability in the Uk though.

Not sure if its been covered before, but have you guys tried the pinto spacer trick? I've been Hitch Hiking on and off for over a year and this is the best mod I've come across. Makes the device run smoother and tend better from my experience. Cant find a pic but the spacer goes on the steel carabiner inside the body, clamping on the rope instead of the biner itself.

I get stressed out trying to hit a high point with a customer and a work mate watching me. The thought of doing it with 13 or more of my peers and a load of spectators watching fills me with dread! But then I am terrible with a throw line. I check the forum a fair amount and had no idea it was going on. I think it needs to be advertised more and incorporated into another, larger show or trade fair which people are prepared to travel for.

Keep us updated mate i'd be interested to hear how you get on. Would love to work in the States but have no family or ties there so always thought it near impossible to get a working visa.

I used to get it pretty bad. Since getting into srt it has all but disappeared with the occasional twinge after a big week. Use ascenders as much as possible, grippy gloves help when climbing, carry stuff on your shoulder, sack truck, wheel barrows, arb trolly ,anything to take the stress of your arms and onto larger muscle groups.

I arrived last december and they didnt check my bank. One thing they did want tho was an address where I was heading to. The lady wasn't impressed when I told her I was just going to find a hostel in the city. Had to wait in line again and make up an address.

Dont bother with a throw line. Just get a pole belt then spike up all them big lopps you'll be doing

This is a genuine ailment. I believe its called Chefs Arse! This is very true. If you go up a tree first thing in the morning having only drank a cup of tea, I would imagine you'd get very thirsty very quickly. I used to work with a guy and all he would drink was 3 or 4 cups of tea a day. Dont know how he did it!

I came to Perth just before new year with a working holiday visa. Made no plans before I got here and it took me under two weeks to get a job, and that was only because it was the middle of xmas/summer holidays. I just sent out a few e-mails and waited for a reply. The first one that got back to me I now work for. Its a good mix of commercial and domestic work, climbing and mewp. I think if you're in the country already with your visa, employers will take you more seriosly as they can call u up easily or get u to go in for an interview or trial. Just be honest about your ability. Im not really looking for sponsorship at the moment. Im here for the experience and fancied a change from home. If you're eligable, get yourself a working holiday visa, pick a city, and get yourself out here. That would be my advice.

I'v opted to start my trip in Perth. I definitely want to work in Melbourne, and I have relatives to visit in Sydney. My logic being if I start my trip in Perth, then at least I have been there and seen a tiny bit of the west coast before moving on. The problem is the place is so damned big! No chance of experiencing it all with just a 12 month visa.

I can understand people wanting to take there own gear. You spent a lot of money on it, looked after and cared for it, you know the ins and outs of it, and learned to trust it... But why would you want to take your mrs as well?

From what i'v read on here, gear is a bit more expensive over there. And the price of living in general is gradually getting higher. But you could say that about most countries. I think as long as your kits clean and not absolutely mingin they would be alright at customs. Originally i was thinking of taking my complete kit bag but as i plan on moving around a fair bit and staying in hostels i dont think its practicle. Its heavy and i'd be worrying about stuff getting knicked. My mate was telling me about some fire lookout trees he climbed in western australia. 70 metre free climb. wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloucester_Tree Well worth a visit!

This is good reading for me! Im off on the 27th of December. Flying into perth, haven't got any solid plans but taking my ppe and some basic gear (hitchclimer, rope wrench, maybe harness and lanyard). Going to have a couple of weeks relaxing and exploring then go and look for some work. If i was you I'd get it booked up. Its going to be cheaper and it will give you something to look forward and save for. I'v ummed and arred about it for a couple of years but thought sod it, and went and booked a flight last week. Flights are pretty dear this time of year i can tell you!
