  1. Just curious if anyone uses this and how reliable it is?? https://payleven.co.uk
  2. I was taught when I did my climbing tickets about a little rule my instructor called the "5 or 50 rule" basically means if you fall 5 feet of 50 feet if you land wrong your dead.
  3. have a look on you tube for the climbing arborist he has a lot of videos that will help you with the info you will need. some of it will be too advanced to start with but there is some basic tutorials on his videos page an those rock exotica crabs are fine. personal preference but i love the DMM ultra O's similar in price!!!
  4. throw your line over the highest limb you can throw it over tie a 4 wrap prusik onto your tail side of the line. Clip a crab over the bridge of your harness and then tie a larks foot on the end of your prusik then clip in. Clip the spliced eye / sewn eye or bowline or however you terminate the other side of the line in. Then make a short stop same principle although this time tie your 4 wrap prusik and larks foot into a crab and attach to your side D then tie a bowline or anchor hitch to another crab this will then be used as a lanyard / secondary attachment it will clip into your other side D when required. I would strongly recommend getting a competent climber to instruct you on this before even attempting ascending a tree on your own. It is well worth downloading the arbtalk knot guide to start learning some knots!!!! Stay safe and dont try and figure it out for yourself. There is a reason why we have to learn to climb and do aerial rescue tickets for this trade!!!!
  5. harness of your choice, helmet, rope, 2 x prusiks, 3 x 3way locking crabs, 5m strop / lanyard. You could cut a crab an the lanyard and go end on end but that would be a pain in the rear IMO.
  6. There are loads of info on this in the climbing section of the forum

    Bottled it

Sometimes there is something that just clicks and you get a bad feeling about something. The thing to remember is at least you went up and had a go at it. There is no point being up there if your uncomfortable as your mind won't be on what you are doing and you will not be focused on the job in hand. You only need to loose concentration for a moment and lots of things can go wrong and end up seriously hurting yourself or someone else. I think you did the right thing. Try to work out what it was that un-nerved you and then work out a way to stop it from happening again so you can stay in your comfort zone. Takes bravery to admit you didn't like it IMO!
  8. Don't know if this has been posted before but thought it was worth sharing BBC News - Community rallies to save "Lonely Tree"

    Instagram?

davidpickess I'm fairly new to Instagram myself
  13. There are many arborist shops about honey brothers and gusthearts are very popular and have a large selection of equipment. Most people start out climbing on a Prussick or Blake's hitch friction knot. I would get at least 3 Prussick loops, 5 three way locking crabs, 35m of 13mm arborist line XTC is good for beginners and many climbers still use XTC it is fairly popular rope. Get it spliced in one end. You'll also want to consider a 5m lanyard as your secondary line. You will most likely get taught the end on end method if you were to do your climbing tickets. You'll also want a harness there are many to choose from and vary in price but they are defiantly a matter of preference as to which you choose. I would try on all the ones in your budget and choose the most comfortable one for you. A throw bag and throw line are also a very useful and often underrated tool to any climbing arborist. Don't forget a helmet. Other people may have other reccomendations but that should get you started
  14. Agrre with Dan! Im a massive fan of the hitch climber. Was thinking about going onto a mechanical friction device but I love my Hitch climber too much.
  15. Il have a word with my governor I think he is looking for someone we are in Chelmsford if that is on any use. PM me contact details and il pass it on
  16. Fair enough. Well if work ever brings me up your way il pop in for a coffee and a chat
  17. I use 50m of zing-it with a 10oz bag can't remember who makes it. I attach to the bag with an anchor hitch and use the one handed basket method. Probably not as accurate as if like normally hit my target 2nd or 3rd throw but still very much quicker than ALT method. I attach my zing-it to my line with 3 half hitches which seems to do the job spaced a few inches apart from each other
  18. No worries guys the order was placed online but only after talking to a few if your guys on the phone first. I had used you before and was happy with the service then hence why I used you again. It's a good job your to far away from me otherwise id be in there every other week. You guys doing any shows this year? Il need some new rope soon and I have promised myself if I'm good and work hard I can treat myself to a treemotion harness

  22. Groundie needed to be able to leave from Chelmsford Essex Tuesday 25th I.e this coming Tuesday. 1 day call Rich on 07783 479958 for more details if your interested. Cheers posting on behalf of a collegue
  23. A 3 dB increase in SPL is double the volume. So for instance 103dB is double the SPL of 100dB
  24. SPL is sound pressure level. It is measure in decibels or dB. The chart shows your safe exposure levels for any given 24hr period. So of the saw is 118dB your exposure time to that sound pressure level in any 24hr period is 14 seconds before you risk hearing damage. Hench the use or ear protection to attenuate the level your exposed to which prolongs the time you can be exposed to said sound pressure level.
  25. So if you wanted to use the saw for 8hrs constant use in a day your hearing protection would need to provide 33dB attenuation to prevent hearing damage. Hope that makes sense???
