  1. Yes I allowed for that in saying the quantities. Reckoned there was another half crate in the mounds.
  2. Yes probably some of nicest oversize wood I have ever had. No messing around having to get the blade all the way to the bottom of the log to make them separate. An inch or two in and they went. The guy who helps me out is a good grafter
  3. 9 1/2 crates as it turns out but no too bad
  4. Yes I have seen splitters like that but ours is quite quick. Got a day on rings tomorrow and recon my mate will probably fill 10 crates if all goes well.
  5. I have had the stove give off a puff of smoke when it's been to shut down then comes back to life with a whoosh pushing smoke into the room.
  6. Pretty sure there is a joke to be had based on the thread that made him vanish ?
  7. Thanks but I dont want to get any busier. Quite like the easy life and being skint haha.
  8. If all goes to plan I have just acquired a 10'x5' roller table for scrap money. The rollers are on a chain and a 3 phase motor. No 3 phase here but I recon if I disconnect the motor and attach a winding handle instead so should be able to have the rings feed straight to the splitter ?
  9. They do look great if you have the work for it. Bet you cant wait as they look way faster than the Posch. I cant justify that kind of outlay for our tiny outfit though.
  10. That's incredible value for kit that must cost a bomb. Mind you not including transport is probably the catch for us as I am presuming they are nowhere near the SW. Did see the Growi at the APF a few years ago but not working as something had gone badly wrong with it. Cant remember how you load the rings on it but might do a bit of research
  11. That would be slick. Rowans idea with the loader onto a big table of these would be magic.
  12. If your Rotatech chains are anything like the ones I have had you wont be wanting to touch the depth gauges/rakers for a while as they come out the bag set very aggressively. As said a fraction here or there we make diddly squat difference.
  13. Thanks chaps Cant justify a Fuelwood Splitter. Dont do enough wood but would love one. Billeting them first. It's possible but I suspect slow. Also putting split wood through the processor the wood tends not to fall well in the splitting chamber requiring correction. I think you are right Rowan. I have a piece of flat steel sheet on the trailer which aids sliding the rings around. No concrete in my yard I am afraid nor a backstop but it's a good idea. Yes I do operate the saw from the side. It's only an Ifor and I take the sides off. As I said earlier I have been over thinking this. Made a start yesterday and rings aren't as heavy as I thought so stacking the rings manually prior to splitting is easier than expected but pleased several of you think rings on a trailer is the way to go.
  14. You advocate sub 16% logs but dont suggest sealed log stores. Do you not agree that ambient humidity will make their moisture content go higher?
  15. Thats lovely but would she not prefer it in pink?
  16. Great pictures as always Paul That from seed to sawmill is superb. Amazed it didn't win
  17. I am well aware that I am fortunate but would like that trend to continue and think this requires a sea change in the way we live. Comparing man made destruction to a meteorite just seems bizarre to me. One we can do something about the other is out of our hands. It is depressing and I am depressed about it. Most people seem to take your view ie live today and fook tomorrow, pretty shitty for those we hand things too though dont you think?
  18. Nice idea but pretty slow as is. As you say that Japa system added to it might be good. Maybe we are doing OK already. Last time I had a major session on rings I spent the best part of a day bringing the wood up from the field and ringing then the next day I did some of them on the processor and my mate did some on the splitter. Think we did 18 crates in the day. Good/bad I dont know but would always like to improve things.
  19. To be fair the Farmi can take a 40cm ring but all the re-splitting is a faff with the reaching over to retrieve them. As you put it grid cutting on the splitter leaves a perfect product and not a lot slower than rings through through the processor when you have to do endless re-splits. Biggest I would put through the 6 way would be 10" and everything over needs re-splitting for what I am wanting. Thought you were getting a Tajfun and not a Posch? Edit. Scrub that I see you are selling that one. As said you have looked after it beautifully by the looks of it. The build and finish on the Posch is great but watching a demo of the Tajfun at the show I recon you have made a good choice. The flaps that lower the log to stop it flipping look very good and the build quality looks OK
  20. I am undoubtedly over thinking and should take my wife's advise which is JFD ?
  21. Just a couple of wagon loads. Would like to find a better way to ring it all up as it's pretty clunky and slow at present.
  22. Could do but I love the logs you get from the tractor splitter. The processor doesn't do such a neat job. Secondly I have a chap who helps occasionally and the only kit I can let him loose with is the tractor splitter. The Fuelwood splitter would absolutely perfect for the wood we have
  23. We have plenty of oversize wood to process in the near future. Not planning to buy any new kit just want to find the least labour intensive way to ring up and split it all. Current system is to hold the lengths with the forwarding crane over a trailer and ring as much as I can while it's suspended and then drop the remainder and cut that up and repeat until the trailer is loaded up. I bring the tractor splitter up to the trailer and slide the rings from the trailer on the splitter table and then the logs go into the crates. Any bright idea how to improve this with little or no expenditure?
  24. We have very different customers ash. I guess if you sell a log of a certain size you build up a customer base that likes that size. We have always split quite small partly to aid drying time and I did see a HEATAS guide recommending that no split dimension should be over 6" and I have taken that to heart.
  25. Bob wins ? Must admit I may have done some comparable to that first one. There is always and excuse as to why
