  1. Nice demo of steam bending in bag in this clip [ame] [/ame]
  2. These any good? https://www.selway.co.uk/product/coppice-british-bbq-sack-med-305x125x740-pack-of-50-2/
  3. Would have thought the kind of customer who pays more to buy British charcoal is unlikely to want treated bags. Only guessing though. Native charcoal is much easier to light so other than the not touching the charcoal aspect not a lot to gain.
  4. Still mulling over the whole CE mark side of things. Cant even work out if it needs it or not from the guidance on this site https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ce-marking From a quick search the Fourseasons one has a CE mark but cant find a webpage saying the Exeter has but doesn't mean it doesn't have one. In reality mine has more potential danger which is inescapable with changing charge chambers while everything is hot. Could sell it as a one burn and if customers work out they can change the charge chambers while hot it's their own risk So out of my depth with sort of stuff
  5. Yep would love to have a look at the new look site
  6. Thanks Richard. £5 selling direct and £4 trade. Financially it's madness when I consider the time involved in cutting, drying, loading, unloading etc etc but it's good fun non the less.
  7. My thoughts as well.
  8. Hi Steve Probably just under 50% by volume. Never checked by weight but I fill 7 of these per barrel and they weigh around 2kg each. No obvious problems with warping since the initial burn and subsequent modifications. Snag is I don't make much charcoal so it's not getting worked very hard to show issues. Barrels are holding up remarkably well and still using my original ones. Not trying to keep the retort temps down now and run it between 500C-700C. It gets a lot less smoky above 600C. Just had a chap make 30 mile round trip to buy 10 sacks of charcoal as it's the best he has ever bought
  9. That looks great Rob. Wish I had a saw up to that sort of size. Passed details onto a friend who has been dithering about getting a big Alaskan but whimpers at the price.
  10. Just a little update. Not had much time to tinker with MK1.2 but it's working well enough just not as cleanly as hoped. Converted 0.8 of a cube yesterday from 08.30- 17.00 Could have got it up to a cube if not had something on in the evening so a pretty productive little retort. The first burn is the smokiest so guess thats down to the fact the firebox is currently sitting on bare earth so water getting driven off.
  11. Sorry that was not a very constructive post Looking at your machine on a video it cuts quick enough but the ram stoke is slow. With 25 tonnes of push would have thought it could do a lot more than a 8 way knife. My little Farmi is only 7 or 8 tonne and handles a 6 way pretty well. Do Trakmet do a 12 way for you machine? Would think this would be when your machine would come in to it's own [ame] [/ame]
  12. Hope thats the case but wouldn't say the weather has been especially bad. Did see a couple in the barn this afternoon though. Fingers crossed their numbers recover.
  13. So 2/3 thirds of a tonne an hour. That does sounds a bit slow. I work for one guy on a regular basis and he has each 18 tonne lorry load in a separate stack. At worst we get through half a load and usually 2/3 thirds so 9-12 tonnes a day. No log deck with one guy hand balling the lengths on tractor forks and then putting them on the Farmi's log lifter. He clears chip and the logs are left in a heap to be sorted later. All cut to similar sizes that you mention.
  14. Ours have now almost completely gone or died Think there are only one or two on the farm when by this time we would usually have loads around. Hardly any fly's this year so maybe no food for them but never known a year with so few swallows.
  15. If the machine and log deck work well and you are happy with 450mm diameter wood split 8 ways would have thought 35 cube a day is well within reach. Best I have managed is 19 tonnes of oak but that was cut for regular logs at around 9" long but nice straight lengths with two guys keeping the machine fed. At the end of the day you can only charge what someone is prepared to pay. Sure me and the Farmi are worth more than £27 an hour but don't recon many would give us a go at those prices. Bet they would put up with a price hike once they have seen what an efficient processor can do though.
  16. Wish I could but no way could I get permission here for a permanent structure.
  17. Great thanks Pete:thumbup1: I need them anyway and found clear ones are no more money than coloured so think I will give it go. Still leaving lots of ventilation but hope the clear will raise the temps a bit on sunny days. What weight tarp did you go for? Only seen them in lightweight for market stalls but was looking at the 610 gsm ones.
  18. Much like Chris we made one out of a railway sleeper and some 3x2. Could pick it up the tractor forks so tipping most of the logs onto the trailer.
  19. No idea on standing rates but last lot of oversize beech we got was £50 a tonne delivered. Some of that was good enough for milling so £45 a tonne standing sounds way over the top This is what we got for £50 delivered
  20. Pete did you ever try a clear tarp? Got to buy a couple and wondered how you got on.
  21. Something like this should work well Cmt Mortising Router Bits CMT/801.127.11_MST from Westcountry Machinery 4 Wood Used CMT cutters and saw blades for many years and they have proved to be as good if not better than most
  22. What problem was that Stubby Fingers crossed for new Hilux owners. Wasn't prepared to take the risk and went pre 2011
  23. In this thread Rowan puts up a video of the Thor in action. When researching splitters I saw this model recommended time and time again with almost no negatives mentioned. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/103863-balfor-thor-splitter.html
  24. The one with fastest cycle time and large blade 15-20 tonne. Cant see the need for more power and increasing power slows cycle time. Probably Posch but didn't get one as too heavy for our wee tractor.
