  1. A generic search engine kicked the name out while trolling the interweb for tree info. Great site, really is a mine of knowledge and expertise.
  2. Seriously though...... was he trying to force it towards the camera and snapped his (too thin) hinge?
  3. Two tarps, one for the hammock and one for the 'roof' and a length of rope. Fold the hammock tarp into a diamond shape and tie a big overhand knot at each of the ends of the longer points. Whip the line round one knot, then around a tree at head height. Take the line horizontally to the other stem, fix and attach to the other end of the hammock. Throw roof tarp over line and peg out. Tenner from B&Q
  4. Boom-tich, boom-tich, boom-tich, boom-tich, boom-tich. Hmmm would show the boy racers round here a thing or two . Awesome bit of kit!
  5. Ok, sorry if that reads a bit crappy but its the first thing that came to mind! Hopefully the OP can find some value in the wood
  6. If you can bury it under a really big pile of stone for a few million years you could maybe get some decent jet out of it?
  7. Does this technique transfer the pulling force from the blocks rigging point into compression down the stem?
  8. When I first switched to the HC I used a knut with 2 tresses, it felt very safe. Quite high friction but very grabby. Dont know if it was a recommended knot but it seemed to work for me.
  9. Should be able to find information on your councils website regarding upcoming tenders for works.
  10. Would take all of 45 seconds before arriving at the pearly gates going backwards and on fire (to quote Clarkson). Still, would be a pretty mean truck
  11. Wonder if Toyota do a 'Go Baby, Go' button for the Hilux....
  12. Get well soon mate! Good luck with getting the treatment sorted.
  13. Three nice medium sized oaks to tidy up, my new 201 seems boss and THE SUN SHONE ALL DAY! IN SCOTLAND!!!!!
  14. Interesting thread (as usual). Here's my 2 bobs worth. 1. AT IS a great resource for us less experienced fellas. Banter/dry humor included. 2. Things are tough in all business atm. 3.Folk who get upset by a sarky comment on an online forum are not going to deal with the amusing little challenges of tree work (oh good! It's 630 on a friday evening, its just started pouring and.......... yes, my splice seems to have wrapped itself round my anchor point 15 times) Anyways, I just dont think that there can be that many people following this career who aren't committed to what they're doing? If its something you really want to do then you'll get there thru the hard work it takes. Has anyone ever met an Arb whos said 'well it was pretty easy going, the hours were reasonable and the money was good'? The folk just filling courses up at college wont see it all the way.
  15. Almost certainly a 'half-rope' used with a second rope while rock-climbing. NOT designed to be used on its own.
  16. Cheers folks, the shopping list just keeps getting longer!
  17. Cheers, I can see how the 2 tangs of the fixed-cheek pulley could be heavily loaded if pulled into the curves at the top of the crab (bad for the crab too, I guess) . Any thoughts on the hc idea?
  18. Is it better to use a round-section crab with something like a small fixed-cheek pulley rather than the asymetrical Boa for sidelines etc? Does it have to be an oval crab thats used as the lower attachment for a hitchclimber setup? Any opinions would be appreciated
