  1. Useful for drying wet gloves? Am I missing something here? If, in the unlikely event, one should get caught in an unexpected shower, the correct place for drying gloves is in the boiler house. Are people actually going out to work in the rain? Is that a Northern thing??
  2. That’s an interesting point. I saw in previous pics that folk have the base plate elevated on their machine. I currently use my stand alone upright splitter at ground level but find the bending down to load it a bit of a back breaker after a while. Looking forward to trying it the other way around.
  3. It's interesting that Dr Mynors states that in the absence of a Wednesbury challenge to procedural process: (a) ...this (R v Test Valley BC, EX p Anne) is the only case that may be referenced, and that, (b) ...the reasoning of the judgement is succinct, and it is not possible readily to discern the principles on which its conclusions were reached, so as to predict what might be the outcome of future challenges. So here in lies a potential caution against what might be considered the 'habit' of citing a single example and applying it, carte blanche, across a broader range of possible circumstances than might reasonably apply. (I can think of several perennial examples) For starters, the only (partially relevant) case reference is some 20 years old (not a long time in legal nor tree years but a long time in human habit, interpretation and willingness to accept authority perhaps!) So it got me to thinking, that case was a tree owner notifying intention in a CA, the LA objecting and implementing a TPO, the tree owner seeking consent to fell a TPO tree, the LA objecting, the tree owner seeking assistance from the LA by means of a statutory nuisance and the LA refusing to assist. There is a lot of your own homework being marked in that passage of events. Would it wash today? It's not uncommon to see a LA stating that they will "defend at all costs" (example below) which resulted in pretty robust lambasting from the beak, and I'm thinking of a local planning app which has been called to JR next month where the LA haven't quite said "defend at all costs" but they have said "robustly defend their decision." I can't help but think - shouldn't the default starting position of a local government body - who's purpose is to serve the people - be something more like "...oh, we'd better have another look at that and see if there is a mutually satisfactory way to approach it..." rather than "...defend at all costs...?" Not suggesting that the OPs circumstance warrants anything more than the attention it's already had - all sounds relatively minor - just saying, it might not be wise to bet all your chips on defending all future claims for abatement from insects / spores on what appears to be a fairly sketchy precedent especially where attitudes towards the importance of 'authority' seem to be on an ever decreasing scale. Just thinking out loud really.... Information request - a Freedom of Information request to Test Valley Borough Council - WhatDoTheyKnow WWW.WHATDOTHEYKNOW.COM Please provide the information held in relation to the decision making process by the council in R v Test Valley Borough...
  4. Have you had a 5837 AIA submission? Just go all in and post the planning app No and LA so we can have a look at the documents/ comments. If the trees are not in conflict with the design proposals, can’t say I’ve ever heard of a circumstance where an applicant is obliged to remove trees that they don’t want to - quite odd. Which area??
  5. This article answers some recurring questions about the actual requirement (or not) for a site notice: Focus on site notices WWW.LOCALGOVERNMENTLAWYER.CO.UK Sarah Reid and Constanze Bell examine the thorny issues around publicity for planning applications in the coronavirus... It also touches upon the potential for C19 working practice procedures clashing with the ‘ability’ to post notices (which I personally think is a red herring) since it has always been, and remains the case that, go to work where work can’t be done from home. All up, I guess if it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience, I might consider pinning it up if asked. If it was a hassle I’d offer to do so at cost. The potential down side to NOT having an app (that requires a site notice) having a notice posted is that a neighbour ‘could’ complain about not having had an opportunity to present comments for or against resulting in an ombudsman case: Publicising planning applications - Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman WWW.LGO.ORG.UK
  6. At risk of appearing "shady" (heaven forbid) it kind of depends who yome talking to as well... If Bob wants 10' off the top of the Pittosporum which has been left to grow wild for the past 25 years there's not much point getting into tree physiology with him, just climb in the bush and get busy one-handing the topper. Van sign writing could just as easily be "Fully Insured, Free Quotes, No job too small" = jobber. But if yome at the local botanical gardens punting for a veteranisation programme you might put your best jeans on, polish your boots, brush your teeth, clean the truck and talk like you knows what yome talking about = arborist 🤣
  7. I saw the other thread that’s running in parallel after Id written that Mark. Chris made a similar point but what both points highlight is that both the terms “arborist” and “arboriculturist” are (a) open to interpretation and (b) (perhaps more significantly) neither are properly understood within the industry let alone by Joe Public. Like, it’s no good trying to sell hard cased pre-embryonic protein sacks if all Maureen wants is eggs 😀
  8. You’d have to have a recognised and broadly accepted definition of the term ‘arborist’ before you could hope to establish a path towards initial, partial or full ‘qualification.’ Are you, for example, including some / any theory / academic achievements within that term or solely focussing on the practical elements? I’d suggest there’s a pretty strong argument that you can’t separate the 2 if you want to adopt the fullest sense of the term ‘arborist.’ Maybe the premise of the question is too loose? How do you define arborist?
  9. Not sure what would be best for moss. Neaters prob a bit rich - 50/50 maybe. It’s like super strength bleach gogs & gloves highly advisable - you’ll feel it if you splashes on arms / face etc.
  10. Hypochlorite available from Mole Valley in 25l drum Royal - not the most environmentally friendly option if run off is likely but it will kill off moss algae etc. Useful to have a can around for all sorts of outdoor cleaning jobs.
  11. Oh go on then..... I had to go back and check and yome absolutely right! Although, in my defence your honour, I’m going to claim that I nevvr saw wot 🐑 rote, and I went into greater detail 😔 😂😂👍🏻
  12. OK, no need to get all lemon.... We’ll just say it was “your” idea... 😘
  13. A lively debate about what to do at the top, and how to do it.... Maybe it’s my phone, but has anybody else looked at the stem? I smell 2 stroke...
  14. 😂😂😂😂 That made me chuckle - esp in light of today’s job. They were quite “shocked” at my suggestion for the best course of action. The full on “we love trees” gig (shame you didn’t invest some research prior to selecting your previous tree butcher!) PS (just in case TCD is still lurking in the shadows - base all full of nails and fencing wire!)
  15. Feel you, bloody shame when it all just gets too difficult. 🤯
  16. It’s a shame we rarely seem to get the follow up info after a thread like this. It gets all excited, then it goes wildly off track, then there might be some jokes and randomness, maybe some handbags but rarely a follow up to say what the final outcome was. It’s almost like a Boris Johnson press briefing - entirely futile. Remember this one: I put a lot of time and effort into the caravan + pony solution, I felt quite ‘invested’ in that as a viable solution.... Never heard any more about it. Seems a shame really 😫
  17. Well, I guess it’s an inevitability that some threads may just stray a smidge off track..... 😂 Surely weme pushing the boundaries with this one 😂
  18. There's been a huge liberal salt bath over the comments of Lord Sumption on "The Big Question" (or what ever it is) on Sunday morning. Good Morning Britain on ITV: Piers Morgan in row as Lord Sumption claims older lives are 'less valuable' - MyLondon WWW.MYLONDON.NEWS The Good Morning Britain host questioned whether Lord Sumption would have let Sir Captain Tom Moore die Is one life worth more than another? Yes of course it is and the point he was making was perfectly valid and entirely appropriate to the discussion in which it was presented. As ever, media ego-trippers are trying to sensationalise and scandalise the comments which where entirely sensible and the kind of logical thinking needed to haul us through this shitstorm of our own making. Come on, really, who actually believes all human life is equal? I'd sacrifice my life for that of my wife and daughter. It makes perfect sense, I'm the oldest and I've pretty much kicked the ass out this body on the way. No money back refund required.
  19. This! Its been busier than ever! Maybe especially noticeable in Cornwall with the dominance of holiday let’s and the (very) generous support to the tourism sector. Notably, discussing the latest round of grants with a holiday business, apparently, “...it’s a bit embarrassing...” how much money is being thrown at them it is traditionally the ‘closed season’ from Jan - Easter but the latest lockdown means another tranche of 10s of thousands of pounds. That money is going on getting works done - good for me. When combined with previous lockdown grants and the exceptionally busy staycation market between lockdowns many in holiday business have done better than normal for a fraction of the effort. Then there’s the grants to 2nd home owners that register as a letting business, eligible for rates relief and also got 10k per house. The figures for that a truly shocking in Cornwall. Maybe it’s my limited circle of contacts but I can’t think of anyone that has found them self worse off as a consequence of Covid - on the contrary, it’s sickening to hear them harp on about how well they’ve done out of it.
  20. That’s a good part of the success right there - obvs the main part is the service / availability / expertise but all that amounts to nothing if a poor 3pl carrier destroys all the good work that goes into getting the gear out of the door. Customer / order can’t be satisfied until the goodies are in hand. I often check which carrier is being used before ordering online. Needless to say, if it’s a habitually poor delivery company order goes elsewhere. Always been 100% with CSBs & DPD.
