  1. Somebody had to say it.... Or:
  2. The more you think about it, the more you can get tied up in knots! If you are "required" / agree that you use your own truck for work purposes, then it's likely that you should be paid from the time you get in the truck in the morning to when you get out at night, plus you're "working" whilst driving to / from tasks so any accident is a workplace accident with RIDDOR and statutory sick pay implications. Installing tacho is an interesting one also. Who is insured / liable for damage to cargo / plant on the trailer in the case of accident? Are you then a third party carrier or an employee?? Who is liable to damage / injury to a third party? As with many things in life, all is groovy 'tll the poo hits the fan!
  3. I'm not sure you're applying what the HMRC "allows" as claimable mileage in the right context here. HMRC allows £0.45/per mile as a deductible business expense: https://www.gov.uk/expenses-and-benefits-business-travel-mileage/rules-for-tax That's wholly different to what you might expect to PAY somebody to provide a service - hire and operate a vehicle. Sounds like you're selling yourself short really....
  4. If it's all day every day, well, you know, your vehicle is "necessary" for the workings of the job pretty much every day, why not look up the daily hire rate for a 4x4 (maybe adjust to allow for 6 or 12 month contract term rates) then you'll know what cash "value" your vehicle brings to the operation and have a representation of the "saving" the boss is achieving by using YOUR vehicle. Then you'll know how to pitch your "I'll use my truck, but it's at X£ per day." Maybe meet in the middle, everyone wins?
  5. Sounds like a "Do-as-you-likey" advert!
  6. I'm guessing (whilst awaiting an authoritative response) that different LAs are applying differing costing scales in different areas. It's certainly not a clear cut £/m difference between rural and urban in Cornwall but rather mapped to average house value (as per the map in post 1) which seems rather an odd methodology to me. It would appear that it would incentivise building in the lower average house price areas and de-incentivise in higher average house price areas, as well as potentially depriving the lower zoned areas of potential financial support to infrastructure enhancements / uplifts.
  7. It's gone even further.... Now the BMElawyers4Grenfell, a team of black and minority ethnic lawyers (backed by - you guessed it, D A-bot) are calling for the dismissal of the appointed judge - because he's white and that all residents without legal right to be in the UK are made full UK citizens by means of a written statement of intent by the Home Secretary within 28 days.... Rarely will you see such overt racism. Grenfell Tower Fire: Survivors Make 12 Demands Of Theresa May | HuffPost UK
  8. That it is! Cornwall - bands A to H based on house value (1991 setting) Band A - up to & including £40K Bands B to G sliding scale in between Band H - more than £320k The banding ranges are wholly out of kilter with market values (2017 setting) We're well over due a system shake up (remember the Labour manifesto? Land Value Tax??) Remember the "mansion tax" proposals? Which party will be brave enough not to kick this long overdue revision into the long grass?? 😳
  9. It's not the "type" of immigration I take issue with, it's the uncontrolled scale and negative effect that I think we should at least try to manage. Nothing fascist, racist, xenophobic or Little Britain about it (although I wouldn't feel obliged to apologise it it were.) In all seriousness, there are few current social issues that cannot be, in full or part, traced back directly to a complete inability of local, regional and central government to understand, regulate and manage population fluctuations. Bloody rain!
  10. There's an appropriate and relevant saying Ti.... "...The only people that actually read doctrine, are the ones that write it..!"
  11. Should also say, I do agree with you on the issues that need to be addressed wrt building standards, sharp practices etc Mull.
  12. Over crowding, sub-letting, vandalism and theft of fixtures & fittings, the social housing crisis etc, etc... Made worse or made better by an annual population increase at or around 300,000? Cause & effect Mull. We can fluff around the edges but unless we look at the demographic, we're closing our eyes and minds to the root of the cause. I appreciate it may be an uncomfortable realisation for some, but there it is IMHO.
  13. Failure to address immigration is a failure to recognise a contributory factor of the housing crisis. If it's all too "uncomfortable" then we will continue to (rather poorly) treat the symptoms rather than the cause. As to the correctness, or otherwise, of the truth wrt not investigating immigration / sub letting, it was widely reported that there would be no checks or action for fear of preventing victims coming forward. If the reporting was accurate, it's a diabolical submission to lawless behaviour for fear of "upsetting" snowflakes. Just my view... Google it and choose your reporting media of choice, there are plenty of options that say the same thing. It's just the opinions of wether it's appropriate or not that differ...
  14. They're not "under paid" nor are they under valued. The FBU are capitalising upon current events to lobby for more money. It's a well trodden route...
  15. Either you're going to have to stop talking sense, or I'll have to stop agreeing with you! Here's another completely outrageous cave in to the PC brigade: The almost immediate statement that no immigration or sub letting checks would be made. Er, why? If there's to be a public enquiry (at great public expense) and it DOESN'T identify uncontrolled immigration and sub letting as a direct and relevant contributory factor, then we'd just as well hiss the money it will cost up the wall!
  16. It's a brilliant idea and it has current / relevant example... X Factor, Big Brother, BGT etc.... And that's exactly where "that" type of system belongs - trash TV!
  17. 2011 UK AV referendum: 70/30 in favour of first past the post. Fairly conclusive.
  18. Hopefully, his wing-man will be close behind him... If for no other reason than having a '70's porn star name...
  19. Seen it before. Good humour never gets less funny!!! 😂😂😂
  20. 🤔 but it's been raining! No worky when rainy!! 🌧☁️☔️ I was wondering where TCD had gone earlier whilst reading the "what about old fuel in saws thread" - he'd have been all over that with tech spec's and oil standards!! There was that post where he said "please delete me" maybe he's left?? (Thinking "Hotel California", you can check out anytime but you can never leave 😳) Pity if so.
  21. If it ended with "...you've got more chance of being hit by a bus..." I reckon he'd be excused butting in! 😂😂😂
