  1. Lax business ethos and lack of innovation? https://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-01-08/the-50-greatest-british-inventions/
  2. Price the job not the means of achieving it. Chummy could pay a clown 200 to make a hash of it or pay the appropriate rate for the confidence that a professional will do the job properly. From the description given, it sounds like it should have commanded more than 4 ½. How are we ever going to get to a state where the training, tools, experience and cost of the job provide a decent return unless we price appropriately. Difficult if you are constantly competing against the 100/day brigade granted.
  3. Competitive - not really (even with regional variations) Couple of hours on site visit, couple of hours report writing - would you be happy paying north of £200/hr? 25% discount for a feedback commitment? That kind of answers the question above, if you can throw a 25% discount out there you're probably (at least) 25% overpriced. Discount for feedback - maybe 5% on a second or subsequent job.
  4. and.... have a look at your pricing, yeah, I know, everyone has their own ideas, but £450 sounds like you're already taking one in the ass!
  5. I may be reading your post in a manner which it wasn't intended (or I might just be too far into the relatively cheap, easily accessible, good quality, non trade barrier advantage of wine from continental Europe - can't imagine how we ever survived before the EU (not at all connected to this post but I'm still mentally chuntering from my last but 1 post ?)) Are we on mixed time lines in your post or am I not reading as intended? The spoils of Empire in relation to post WWII industrial development?
  6. Today is Trafalgar Day, one of the most important days in the calendar of Royal Navy and HMS Victory, the oldest commissioned warship in the world. This battle defined the Age of Sail and sealed British dominion of the seas for a hundred years. Britain’s wealth, prosperity and status as a nation on the world stage still owe much to the courage and skill of the crews of the British ships and their great leader, Admiral Lord Nelson, that momentous day off Cape Trafalgar. You can learn more about Trafalgar Day on our website: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/features/trafalgar-day
  7. That’s an entertaining, but wholly unrealistic scenario.... The dog, at some point in that discourse, would have licked its ass or balls as a natural distraction from the nagging.... And they call it a dogs life!
  8. On the basis of the above statement, I wish to retract my previous picture and replace with this:
  9. Can’t access the link but the point I’d pick up is - just don’t believe the hype (from LAs) about LA budget cuts being the cause of service demise. It’s the golden gift that keeps giving (and keeps being repeated and blamed for poor service.) Yes, of course there are, and absolutely SHOULD be budget cuts. Larger LAs and unitary authorities still have 6 figure salaried executives though and the rationale for that is because they need innovative, experienced, capable leaders. They need to to start earning their money instead of reverting back to the easy strap line - it’s the government’s fault for cutting our budget. No, your organisation is inherently and systematically inefficient, bloated, wasteful and idle. From the very very top to the very bottom. Over the past 4 days I’ve watched +/- 15m of timber post and rail fence being replaced nearby. Always a minimum of 2 blokes + 1 van, sometimes 5 blokes & 2 vans. Thats 1 days work for 1 bloke in any sensible reckoning - how the hell they managed to stretch it to 4 days and so many workers is truly staggering! And that’s the 100% LA owned “arms length” company billing it back to the public purse. Budget cuts my ass. LA’s need to get a grip and start delivering.
  10. Pitcairn - incest, child molestation, near medieval social construct - sounds like an IS holiday destination of choice!
  11. You think the weapons sales will fade or the scandal will fade? I’m a couple of beers in and read it both ways ? You think they’ll stop buying or we’ll stop selling? Im not sure either will actually happen, it may become a bit more obscure and guarded, but I’m not sure anyone (in influence) wants it (the weapons sales) to go away. What at an opportunity for Corbyn to seize the moral high ground - the test will be, does he put morals above money and jobs.
  12. Wasn’t familiar with it but just Wiki’d it. Sounds about right! Talk on the wireless (LBC) was that Saudi owns the 40th something floor of Trump Tower. Their money is intertwined through most most global economies which gives them some impressive (destructive) political clout. Governments cant do much, maybe people power can. We all need to move away from oil dependency - many little steps.
  13. It’ll fade away since there’s very little anyone we might expect to react adversely can actually do about it. The social concience in the West has whored itself to the oil, Saudi cash bought US debt and dumping on Saudi strengthens Iran. Bit of a rock & a hard place really....
  14. If you’d been more specific in your question I might have been able to condense the answer! ??
  15. Larium Thursday..... ?????????????? We had it listed as a mitigating factor if a disciplinary case occurred....
  16. Yes mate, more than most..... 30 years Service predominantly focussed on realising the potential for the troops and championing fairness and equality of opportunity and that's why, 6 years after leaving, I still have the boys and girls send me messages to say they've just been picked up for promotion and they wanted me to be the first to know before they go public on Facebook etc. It's humbling to think that people remember those that they perceive as having been supportive or made a difference in their lives. To link this thread to the other one that is running about financial aid to ex comrades, there has been a sickening growth in 'so-called' charities which seek to ride the public wave of support (and financial donations) for serving and ex-Service personnel. Whilst some are genuine of conscience and spirit, far too many are milking the rich vein of false valour to cash in on unjustifiable salaries and administrative margins whilst delivering the bear minimum (or in some cases, nothing) to those they purport to represent. This can be seen to be true of some genuine ex-Service staffed 'charities' (and many would be surprised and disappointed to see inside the financial affairs of some of the biggest and well known) and some that have no actual linkage at all but give the 'impression' of being 'of' or affiliated to Service personnel. As with so much in the charity sector, it pays to choose carefully before donating - and that's leaving aside the issue of why these charities actually need to exist at all. Now, as you well know Mr ?, just because you present a short question, there should be no expectation of a short answer - doesn't work like that (and I'm sure Mull will be along with a chirpy input soon enough...) Have I donated to TR's cause in the video - no (but don't read too much into that - I'm tighter than an otter's pocket.) Do I think it's a worthy cause - yes in part, independent legal representation puts the shits right into most organisations but especially the military where rank has such unquestionable influence.
  17. No good fighting it ?! You know it makes sense!! Just give in to the overwhelming logic, life becomes so much easier when yome on the inside pissing out ???
  18. Can’t say I see it as a “bad” thing really. Let the tech do the work. Can’t really see a down side to monitoring road safety and potentially deterring / removing potentially dangerously over loaded vehicles from the highway.
