  1. Muff has been off a piston is in nice nick. It's had a carb kit but I may re strip and and u/s clean to double check. I'll have a bash at turning the idle up. Revved it's knackers off yesterday after starting. Didn't Rev out just died like it ran out of fuel. Will try the adjustments and see what happens. Not letting this one win! Thanks all for suggestions.
  2. Any thoughts on the 242 issue spud? I'm stumped!
  3. Another thing that puzzled me today was this: I went to my local husky dealer to pick up some parts. Asked for a quote on a p/c kit. They wanted £375 for the kit... Same kit retails in the states for $199 )about £135... Go figure. Anyone bought parts from the states?
  4. Fuel line definitely not pinched. Checked that on reinstall. Have to say it's got me puzzled.
  5. A 242 xpg that's got me totally foxed. Starts and runs for a few seconds then dies. Tank breather changed. Fuel line and bobbin changed. Impulse circuit checked. Needles checked. Carb diaphragm checked. All ok. Run out of ideas but something is causing it to die. Ideas?
  6. Definitely a lucky barsteward! Old school husky grunt too. Deeply jealous😉 Well done to the rest of you LBs too. Keep at it. Someone bound to be given a mog before the years out.
  7. New 2016 VW Amarok gets a V6 pick-me-up by CAR Magazine
  8. V6 available in the new model apparently. 224ps top spec. Personally I'd love to see the v10 from the toureg spliced into an Amarok. Gert lush.
  9. MTM Drops a 410PS V8 in the VW Amarok Pickup Truck Vw take note!
  10. Re 242. All present and correct. Non runner at present but will take a closer look shortly. Re wives and partners: many of us (most?) are likely in that situation. Not sure they could be considered as equipment though... At least not if we wish to retain our equipment!!
  11. Arborist site has a 'you suck' thread for those members that obtain saws (or other bits and pieces) for free or at 'very competitive' rates. Thought I might start one here. My starter for 10 is a pre Xp husky 242 obtained for the princely sum of £60. Don't know what it's like internally but it appears ok externally.
  12. Yep. Broken off a few mil inside the case and i failed to drill it centrally. My bad but an endmill should resolve it.
  13. So the saw has gone to a tame engineer for the attentions of an endmill on the broken bolt in the crankcase. Insert to go in when it's back. Anyone used time sert inserts before? Considering getting a kit as I have several of this size to do.
  14. Yes re bracket/muff issue. The saw came to me with these issues. Muff had failed at attachment points to cylinder and been removed by an unskilled person... You know, kinda gorilla like😀
  15. Cheers Spud. Now to get some inserts and an extractor for that broken stud.
  16. Got a husky 357 with one exhaust bracket support screw snapped and the one on the felling dogs side stripped. What's the size/thread pitch of these screws? Anyone know the helicoil insert or timesert insert size off hand? Annoying as the saw runs like a demon. I can see a visit to Oncle Le-Spud in its future... Regards G
  17. North west Leics. measham area.

  20. looks like a great opportunity for some figure in the stump/root crown. Don't off stump it!
  21. Ooops. Forgot to add price. £1 each plus post if needed. Regards Gareth
  22. Afternoon all. Many thanks to Steve for allowing me to post this one. After years of trawling the UK nursery trade for this species -with no luck- I decided to have some grown from seed. I now have around 350 of these trees available for sale. They are cell grown on a UK nursery and from seed imported from America. The sales are not for profit (price only covers seed and production costs) and are aimed at getting this species a bit more widely planted and widely known as I think it deserves to be. Here's a link to the Autumn 2014 issue of 'The Axe' where I describe the background to the project: ISSUU - The Axe, autumn 2014 by Ian McDermott Also the Wiki entry for some further background on species: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betula_alleghaniensis If anyone would like some of these excellent trees then please contact me by PM to make arrangements. Any comments on this thread very welcome. Regards Gareth
