  1. Talking to a trainer yesterday and that was his concern. Every bloke with a saw will be doing them for beer money, chainsaw injuries will go up and then the H&SE will be reviewing the industry again.
  2. Planning rings you to tell you to stop causing trouble though, after all the neighbours ring him up complaining.
  3. There's a pub just outside the centre that used to have a parrot. As as the air got more filled with the aroma from the funny fags it used to start nodding off. Finally it would pass out stoned and the Landlord would take it out of the way until it woke up with the munchies.
  4. Felling trees in Hebden Bridge one day and an irate 'lady' (might have been a bloke in drag, HB is like that) said to my boss that she didn't know how we slept at night! He replied "We don't do this all the time you know. We go seal clubbing during the winter instead"
  5. Best use for their pizzas, probably last longer than asphalt too.
  6. Are you bored today? And I thought I was pedantic I DGAF what happens to me, I've told my wife you can prop me up in a bus shelter, if she wants, when I go.
  7. Or you can consider it as part of the evolutionary process, in the knowledge that in a couple of hundred years we'll have a population of tolerant ash trees and life will go on. What it should be is a wake up call to encourage more species diversity and climate resilient planting, just like what happened when DED started. Oh, hold on, we didn't learn then either, did we!
  8. Not at all Khriss, we had some interesting discussion. I'm still not sure about the hat though!
  9. Ronnie Biggs motto, allegedly. He did alright for a nights work.
  10. Hope it didn't disturb you. I hate it when I set the missus' alarm, so she can make my breakfast in bed, and then it wakes me too!
  11. Probably right, but if you're employed and with anyone other than a multi-national company I wouldn't be too confident that you'll be looked after that much if you get sick either.
  12. The fellow from Pimlico was on the radio last night, As he pointed out, the bloke filled out self-assessment as a self-employed person for a number of years, had been paid either 1/4 or 1/2 million in the years he worked with them and claimed every benefit available to a s/e person( I assume he meant allowances against his income). You'd think that it benefited everyone for him to be s/e, otherwise he'd have left to work elsewhere. But now that his situation has worsened he wants to move the goalposts. I think he should have been an employee all these years, ultimately the people responsible, who allowed or accepted it was the inland revenue. But that's a different issue again.
  13. Unless you can predict the rainfall for the next few years and have enough geological knowledge to know the ability of the soil to absorb water if there's an existing SMD, steer clear. With the the existing garage, haven't they designed the foundations to take into account the tree anyway? The footings should be deep enough to be below the influence of the trees roots and some anti- heave precautions already incorporated if the soil type indicates they're needed.
  14. As much as that? You’re working yourself into an open grave, man!
  15. So you can take possession of someone else's property, keep it for a number of years and then the law says that it's yours? Ronnie Biggs should have got a better brief
  16. The fellow from the Park mentioned that, all he could say was that there was no historical proof to the story IIRC. I'll ask Mick Boddy tomorrow though.
  17. That's your problem, start smoking, drink ten pints a night with a big steak and plenty of chips. A big full English to start the day and you'll be fine
  18. I agree with that. Everyone on our road parks half on the pavement, otherwise they'd only be parking on one side of the road because it is so narrow.
  19. Safest way would be to create a new path. No risk, no cost. Assuming that it’s your wood. is the existing path a pubic footpath /right of way. That might change things entirely.
  20. Great, that’s good to hear and good to get an update.
  21. Very good day at Bradgate Park yesterday for the Field Day. The Park’s an early Deer Park just chock full of Ancient/Veteran trees, mostly oak but a good few chestnuts and old monkey puzzles. Claus was as entertaining as usual
