I completely agree, Ours doesn't get used too much but does eat up the gas, I would rather a diesel if i can find one with decent big wheels. Would you cover just the bottle or the whole forklift, keeping it inside isn't an option at the moment

We have a OLD hyster forlkift in the yard that is used for a few jobs, when I went to use it last week in the cold it was very spluttery with no power. Having looked in the engine bay the vaporizer, I think, a block with lpg in and out and water in and out, was covered in frost (Like if you let off a gas bottle over something cold) is this just what happens on the cold and it needs to wait till the machine is warmed up, or it it leaking somewhere causing the frost. I haven't had a chance to try it in warmer weather yet. Thanks

When to have a look at the merlo yesterday, was and ok machine but definatly in "off the farm" condition, various bits of welding (Including the rear of the boom!!), play in pins, loose wires around the cab etc think I will pass on it as it could be a minefield of trouble!! Also looked at a Sanderson 726 solo in absolutely mint condition used as a yard machine for a local tractor dealer for the last 5 years or so, its a older, but on the face of it much better machine. Anyone know what spares are like for these? Finally it isn't fitted with a 3rd service, not a problem in itself however may be useful later on, can one be plumbed in using the pickup hitch and trailer tip feeds and a changeover valve?

Thanks for the warnings guys, will definitely have to do the maths before throwing a big bucket on the front and driving around. Bob - Wont be towing anything on the road just around sites etc so not really a problem on the legality side there. Going to look at the merlo today, it looks like the controls are direct into the valve block so less electronics than the newer ones so that good. Anything to check on any of the machines, other than general mechanical condition?

The merlo is a 7m reach and the older type with direct hydraulic controls instead of solenoids. Will take a look at the jcb 526

Looking for a cheap telehandler to load walking floors, tow a tipping trailer on chip jobs and general moving carrying loading etc. Been offered an old perkins engined merlo or an even older ford powered sanderson 622. will either of these be tall enough/ man enough / reliable enough to load walking floors? Must have a rear pick up hitch and tipping pipe for trailers

Happy to bow to other peoples knowledge, however has a big oil filled rad/cooler at the front and a fan driven off the crank blowing air through so assumed oil cooled. I thought air cooled just pulled air over fins, like a chainsaw or lawnmower?

Its a 4cyl oil cooled one, model is a Bf4l1011f. When cold it will sometimes start fine, other times will billow plumes of black smoke. Once going it will run for 45mins or so fine then cut out then only go for 10mins at a time, then cut out, etc. Sometimes it will just rev up and chuck out loads of grey, sooty smoke and cut out, other times it will just cut out. Happy to have a play myself but I know nothing about these engines

Looking for someone that knows their way around a deutz oil cooled engine as got a few problems with the one fitted to our compressor. Any recommendations? Were based near to Gatwick, West Sussex but happy to take it somewhere around an hour or two if need be. Thanks

Having had an excavator at work in the woods fairly continuously for around 2 years I would suggest anyone wanting to do a similar thing to invest in the guarding. Since guarding up we have had no real machine damage, but have had lok of object hit the guarding, typically from dead tops or hanging limbs or when handling big tops and hitting the screen guard. No matter how good an operator you are It will still happen. Even when using a simple fixed demo grab we had a 5" log twist and get pulled straight through the window of the machine, luckily the operator reacted quickly and no damage was done apart from a new screen. We guarded ours ourselves due to the problems you are finding getting hold of people that acctually want the work.

Sorry no ideas about the Pressures required for the 578 however it may be worth cleaning and checking the relief valve and making sure it is functioning correctly. I have just had the valve block rebuilt on my 678 by Clarks in Scotland, Talk to Dave Clark, they had all the parts and were very helpful so I would 100% recommend them if it does need doing. The block on the 678 is made by Monsun Tison and the model is a HV07, no idea if a similar one using pilot pressure was used on your machine.
