Hi Steve,

Just read your reply, about my address, I could post you a cheque for £10 & provide my sons address in Plymouth if that is OK

Or give my son my log in detail & he could buy them - let em know which you prefer

Thanks

Hi,

With a new saw (or new chain) I tend to run the chain a tiny bit slacker at first, new chains seem so stiff & clunky but they soon loosen up. When I used pump fuel (Use Husky Power2 or Aspen as I have asthma) I used to mix 45:1 - a little bit more oil for the first couple of tanks just when it was bedding in & not be too ambitious in what I cut, say no more than about 6-8"

Also if it doesnt say so in the manual, I would lightly grease the clutch needle bearing periodically? depending on use Huskvarna states 45hrs weekly but thats for continuous use. may be worth considering, some Stihls go wrong becuase it no longer mentions greaseing the bearing in the manual! I replace mine annually on my Stihl as theyre only about £3

ANyway let us know how you get on and I think you have a real bargain, will definitely get one to replace my Stihl when it goes!

Hi

I confess, I did used to supervise the operation of a nuclear reactor on a submarine, until 1998 there was no sun but certainly a hot environment for all to work in!

so working in heat not really a problem here

Hi Doobin

Hi,

I've noticed that a clutter free desktop helps, I read a few years ago about it but cant recall exactly why. It also assists re-start time but TBH I dont often reboot my MacBook, I just shut the lid as it starts near instantly from sleep.

Some things that may impact performance:

Too many programs start on start-up

large number of e-mails in mailbox, some people hoard them all!

large number of browser add ons if you use Firefox

lots of smart playlists in iTunes

HDD nearly full,

To improve speed:

flushing caches with Onyx - about once a year Download OnyX for Mac - Maintenance and optimization tool. MacUpdate.com

More memory I got 16Gb from Crucial, my MBP dosnt officially support it but it goes like a train.

Fit larger capacity HDD or SSD if affordable = M550 or Samsung 840Pro good ones

I have de-fragged my Macs but, TBH its marginal, I suspect improvement is proportional to the amount of data on the disk

Hi,

Thank you for reply, I managed to source a bearing from Amazon as sometimes our delivery can be a bit expensive.

I value your comments on the bearing & yes, cant go wrong if changed annually, I look out for chips or sawdust contamination, as its fairly easy to dismantle. I try and avoid over tightening the chain as that would stress it & I can see how twine could easily get caught up as well, so one to avoid - thanks!

I also find Castrol LM grease is fine, as you say its also used for vehicle wheel bearings so plenty good enough.

Thanks again, best wishes

Hi,

I seem to recall you joining Arbtalk last year having left RN or doing resettlement?

Just a message to ask hows things are working out since you left, it looks like UK economy is on the up so 2014 should see things improve.

All the best

Hi,

I hope you dont mind me PM'ing you

I was somewhat concerned by your recent post about 4 bearing failures on MS250 in 6 months.

I have same saw which has done a fair bit of work so have decided to check & grease the bearing monthly & replace it every 3 years. I am aware overpacking with grease can also lead to failure!

Im not sure if you have any recommendations but would value your opinion if you do

Thank you in advance, best wishes.
