  6. Its more a US problem but becoming a problem here . The ethanol content is higher over the pond and causing carnage in small engines .
  7. Thats about the top and bottom of it Steve .
  8. Just to be clear you pull OUT the de comp because you find it starts better without the benefit of it . This seems to be the best way of starting some of the new Xtorque saws as well .
  9. "2 summers ago a polish farm worker was coming through the village with a big 4x4 tractor and a bowser full of diesel . He went round the bend by the church and tipped the lot over . Bowser was illegal single skin and split depositing all the fuel down the road . The road had to be resurfaced for about 250 yds .
  10. I find a good lashing of Leder Griss helps the old boots .
  11. Super market fuel is a flat NO NO . Forecourt fuel like Esso or BP should be ok . If you look on the side of the pump it should be marked with E5 or E10 . I think this denotes the % ethenol .

  16. Just watched your vid and it seems like there could be something in the crank case as it stops top of stroke and bottom of stroke . Or most likely what Garden has suggested ( only just seen his post ) Piston looks ok
  17. I think it looks like the top is burning coz its the gas burning off . Flames go up so it will always look that way I think any way
  18. [quote=Billhook;12045 You can make any prediction you like and if your prediction turns out to be wrong there is no penalty. 87 storm . Night before Micheal Fish said " don't worry "
  19. Yea that's what I mean . The bottom of the log is more burnt than the top .
  20. Blimey woodworks you are cynic !
  21. Yep that's gas . A space under the nozzle for the air to complete combustion . Same with the gas coming off the log has flames dancing above it but the actual log still seems to me to be consumed from underneath .
  22. Think that is the gas burning off or secondary burn as its called . Get the tongs and pull a log out and see if its burnt top or bottem !
  23. Well that's pretty much the opposite of what I and presumably most other people do . After 10 minutes I get the same result as him . Interesting though might try it
  24. Bath/Quins at the Stoop 30/01/2015
  25. Yea woody , that's what I thought / said in my post but the actual consumption of the log appears to be from beneath
