  1. I'm pretty flexible, so long as I book it in advance. April 20th will probably be ok for me. Can't do the following weekend though.... And have no fear, I will be there, huffing and puffing and fumbling and struggling along, making everyone look like a pro....
  2. They can end up immobile! I made the mistake of thinking I could drag one off the lawn with dead leaves in it..... No chance!
  3. So would mine if my grumpy wife didn't keep throwing me out into the shed...
  4. Do you have to double it up and strap it down both legs....? I feel quite inadequate now, mine only goes to just below my left knee...
  5. Funny, I was thinking of bumping this the other day when the sun came out. One weekend in April will be fine, just give me some notice of when you want to come over and I'll get myself a hall pass from the ayatollah...... I might also have May bank holiday free, may be able to do a camp out....
  6. Just for you Arran, I went out into my cold shed to knock up a quick home brew version and took a picture of it next to a shop bought Pulleysaver. What this achieves I have no idea but I had fun doing it.... Couple of excuses.... Loop for pulley made from a length I happened to have, doesn't need to be anything like that long. I only have 1 pinto rig, and it's stitched into the pulley saver, imagine normal pinto is rig version. Tool clip would not be great for retrieval, not very strong, but a carbine hook or proper snap would work.
  7. Ok, getting a BIT weird now... How does it retrieve with that funny fishermans arrangement on the pinto....?
  8. Don't forget a SAWPOD! NOTHING is cooler than having a Silky strapped to your leg.....
  9. I think he means there are now quite a few people using it with a wrench.....?
  10. Don't go any shorter than 300mm if you're using it for felling, the longer the blade the fewer times you have to change direction to achieve the same cutting distance, therefore less energy expended. Can you stretch to a slightly longer one? My Zubat 330 doesn't feel long. Awesome attitude and approach by the way, hats off to you.
  11. Sorry, still not 100% sure what you're driving at! Do you mean as a single tie in point, as in what sort of cambium / friction saver would people recommend? In which case it's a choice between a basic 2 ring cambium saver, adjustable MultiSaver (I really like mine) adjustable FimblSaver (next big thing?) PulleySaver (bit of a nuisance to install & retrieve, I use the MultiSaver on ddrt more that the PulleySaver now having access to SRT gear) home made pulley saver (good solution, save a fortune) or Rope Guide (expensive, flash, never used one) If you mean what can you use to create multiple tie ins, then anything rated. There's no reason why you couldn't choke webbing onto a tip and hang a pulley off it, so long as everything is strong enough. Just remember your force principles. If you haven't yet seen this document have a look at it.. Working-the-Angles-i.pdf

Without knowing your circumstances I can't send you anywhere specific, but you could try Business Link, speak to your local college or specialist training providers (they'll know if anyone has paid towards someone's training) or the youth organisations. I'm an old fart now so things have changed a lot since I did mine but I'm sure there are schemes still out there, you just have to do a bit of legwork to track them down.
  13. If cost is not the main deciding factor, then look at the husky / Stihl / Oregon battery chainsaws. A few spare batteries and one of these might be exactly what you're looking for Paul.

Look into subsidised training as well, depending on age and circumstance you might find you can get financial support for training and qualifications.

Then go for it dude. But don't limit yourself. The beauty of being self employed is you can do anything. Turn your hand to anything to earn the money to get those tickets.

What do you WANT to do? Nothing's easy these days, not that anything ever really was. If you really want to be an arb then you need to knuckle down and work at it. If you can't earn enough in the industry to pay for your tickets then work a second job, in a pub or something. You'll find something if you look. If that sounds too much like hard work, then you need to look again at your priorities. There are lots of people trying to get work, if you're going to rise above them you need to set yourself apart
  17. That's what we're concerned about too.... it is heading worryingly in that direction over here...
  18. Bingo. It all comes about from the ludicrous levels of protectionist health and safety / liability law we have which comes out of the eu (which itself has come from our adoption of American style litigation ironically....)
  19. Mate of mine used to attend steamed up cars in his gateway with a bucket of slurry and a soft broom. Paint the car, quietly. Make sure it's good slurry, lots of silage effluent in it....
  20. It depends on so many things, weather, vehicle speed, seat and trouser fabric, size and consistency of bogey..... I firmly believe that all men should have mastery of all techniques..... Aiming them into the open windows of other vehicles is a particularly skillful activity, taking into account windage, trajectory and range.
  21. Man and boy, thought you were only 21? You make me feel VERY old at 32! You've still got time to make it and lose it 10 times over yet, don't let it get you down. Dust yourself off and have another go. There are shysters everywhere, with experience comes the ability to deal with them and not let them get the better of you. You know the saying. 'Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me'. Don't let them get you again. Good luck with everything.
  22. Some of these willows are about knackered, but we'll try to keep them around a bit longer....
  23. Late start but a beautiful day to be out today. Jack out in the field.....
  24. Beeline? Vectran core, technora/polyester cover..... Although it is very stiff, op is nicer to tie....
