  1. Here are a couple of commissions i did in the last month. the wizard was for the Arbouretum in Nottingham to comemorate its 160th year. The Pug was for a local breader. woof
  2. hi all thought i would post up a couple of pictures of the snake i carved after my tea yesterday. took me 50 mins to carve and 10 mins finishing. Last one i did sold at the first show i took it to, so hoping this one goes well too.
  3. Very impressive. the hieght gives him a nice majestic look
  4. nice piece Bob most of my work is commissioned and so have not had a lot of stall type sales experience. my advice is to bang out a few simple carvings that dont take up too much of your time and therefore you can sell fairly cheeply. This type of flower subject would sell quite well i recon. maybe some different types and 3d ones. once you get practiced you can produce them quite quickly. gets your name out there too and you will start to get the 'thistle' type jobs coming. good luck
  5. Hi some very good first atempts here... don't know if you have any books , but there are some good ones out there to help you. its just many hours of practice and a good critical eye that brings you forward ion this game:) I know what you mean about getting 'hooked' after a few carvings, i have been at it for 3 years and still cant put my saws down for more that a couple of days Good luck mate.
  6. this is a recent commission i completed. he stands around 12 feet tall.
  7. i recon this is a really good effort. Try having some read/grass coming up the legs to provide support. this helps you to go even thinner on the legs themselves and still be strong enough to suport the sculpture.
  8. really impressive for a first atempt
  9. this is a bear cub i did the other afternoon. can hold a flower in it little paws. It's now in a friends garden as a memorial for beautiful little daughter.

    chainsaw gloves

I am a carver and so do not need to climb or work with ropes, so cant fully appreciate how gloves effect the 'climbing' side of your job. I choose to wear cut protection gloves all the time. There are some artist that prefer not to, as bare hands would give you more 'feel' i guess. I provide demonstrations at shows and fairs etc and to satisfy my health and safety/ insurance requirements i have to wear full protection. you do get used to wearing them and in my opinion are well advised to wear as much protection as possible. a shed load of risk involved when using chainsaws
  11. fantastic work! stagering amount of detail..... must be a lot of hand tool work on top of the initial chainsaw.
  12. Nice work. loads of practice is the key, and studying the subject you intend to carve. get the proportions something like correct and you dont have to go crazy with detail. Cheers.
  13. luckily the clients said they were happy to clean up. lucky, as there was a lot of it

  20. never liked Capello ! just seamed to be in it for the money and now proved how mardy he is! All this fuss over Terry, who is too old and slow now anyway. Difficult to feel anything but contempt for footballers who have bearly ever done a proper days work in there lives. well , i guess we will probably be under achieving again in Euro 2012, but at least the excuses given wont be in pigeon english!
  21. like it ! just brightened up my morning combined my two favourite things in life. excepting a good pint obviously
  22. Thanks. yes the stump with the faces was a reserve one , as the one originally planned to be used was much taller but turned out to have too high a level of rott.
  23. Here are a couple of recent carvings for Nottingham city council. the two faces are in Vernon Park and are 'old father time' and ' Mother nature'. The Owl is in Queens Walk Park and overlooks the community art centre sited there.
