  1. Looking for an operative for a small contract that is coming up. The contract is two days a week, Monday and Tuesday, and will go on for around three months. You will be working with the two other operatives and you will be trimming vegetation on footpaths and bridleways. These paths are trimmed every year so it is not heavy cutting. You will be using a hedge trimmer and a pedestrian flail which are provided. All you need to provide is steel toe cap boots and a pair of ear defenders. Cross cutting and maintenance (cs30) and first aid an advantage but not essential. You will need to get your self to Exford If you are interested or would like to know more please ring or email. 2. Surely If their is two on the job you can get a second job done in the same time it takes the one person to do the one job therefore, as long as the work is there, it makes no sense to lone work. As said reg is very experienced but I have lost count the amount of times the tail of my line has wrapped around stog etc requiring assistance Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Got a kask and not overly impressed. I wash the pads every week to keep it fresh. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Your on the money their John. Toxteth they have to pay for assessments so hopefully that is an incentive for them to turn up. It's mad sounds like the chaps/ chapets on the one year course are in a worse position as it's less likely they will get the essential tickets they need to get employed in the real world!! 5. I have a work experience chap with me at the moment who is showing some real promise as a groundsman and shows an interest in climbing. My gripe is his college course. I did the same course around 9 years ago and by this point in the course I, and lots of the students on the programme, had cs38 and 30 by this point. I asked why they haven't gone in for cs30 assessment, and none have, and the reply is that the college have not taught them all they need to know. Now I am no expert but surely you would start of with cross cutting and maintenance and teach all they need to know to pass before going on to felling. Prior to doing a snippet of maintenance they done a portion of climbing and aerial rescue but again not enough to go for assessment! If it gets to may, when the young chap is going for his car test, I will pay myself for him to go to the local training centre to do his tickets! Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. On another note. Finding decent skilled sub contractors is difficult IMO. Got a work experience kid with me ATM and he has more about him than some of the subbies I have used!! Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Nikk, not sure how old your are but i would definitely recommend going to college and doing a national award (or similar ) in arboriculture. It will give a you a good understanding of the industry. As part of the corse you will need to gain work experience and that is probably the most important part. As said it is important to have the tickets ( the basics being cs 30,31,38 for a groundsman) but being able to put in a decent days work week in week out is probably the most important factor and will get you a job. Just need to get in with a good firm that will help you develop. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Interesting thread imo. Increased bio security and tighter movements will go some way to improving the situation. Agreed the protection on badgers needs lifting as it was originally put in place due to badger baiting. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Pantin on under the spikes. Or your wearing spikes so spike up the stem Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. I need to replace my old stihl blower as it is an older model with no anti vibe mounts. It is a 55 model and really shifts. Going to trade in for a bg86 but having used one i know that it has half the power of the older model which seems back wards Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. Use the power of your mind and you will be able to whip one up in no time Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app

  13. Yeah easy to build it up on the timber wolf as you can take it apart easily. Got the same problem on my jensen but as you can not remove the hopper it makes it hard to get the welder in there Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. The winning speech from bellow was a bit mad. The man couldn't take down hay who was on one leg. Thought hay was the better fighter and I am certain he would have won had he not picked up the injury. Even still he was getting in some damn good hits. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app

  20. Yeah it's a struggle ad what's good for environment and what's good for ones pocket are two different things. Again, starting to sound like sceptical broken record, but the electric is generated somewhere. Corsa van has been fantastic. 1.3cdti very nippy little motor. Thinking of one of the Peugeot bipper vans. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Hmm trouble is the information we receive comes from reports and studies that are undertaken by the businesses that have strong interests. Very sceptical of vaccinations and drug companies. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Okay so now it has come out that are environmentally friendly diesels are quite the opposite it seems that the restrictions on said fueled vehicles will enviably get tighter making them less reliable. So am considering replacing my diesel corsa van with a petrol/lpg one as it's better for the environment- obviously using the bicycle is even better and I do when I can. 24. I can appreciate the chain is moving faster but it will get bogged down easier. Bit like hitting a steep hill in your car in 5th instead of 4th Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Okay who thinks that a 550 running 3/8 cuts faster than standard? I can't see how it is possible- a colleague is sure he can out cut a 660 running a 20 inch bar with his 3/8 550. Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
