  1. Hi guys, You can get insurance through norwich union/aviva, occupation: chainsaw carver, coverage up to £5 mil public liability for about £100 per year. I don't have it, I'm just a hobby carver. M
  2. I was there the first day too. For making the eyes, they use an eye tool. It's like a router bit with a concave cup end. You bung it in an electric drill and it burns the in the eye. I haven't managed to find any sold commercially. I think most carvers make them themselves or have mates who can make them. If any one knows how to get hold of set ...
  3. ....at least not on your unmentionables Read the reviews of this product on Amazon, hilarious! - mild language. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/cr/B000KKNQBK/ref=aw_d_cr_drugstore Miranda
  4. WI would never let me in .... One of my early cakes ... Miranda
  5. I couldn't cook buns, that takes skill, I hate being in the kitchen. I'm a rubbish cook, hubby is much better than I am. Decorating cakes is the easy bit, you just need to buy the right stuff, read up on techniques and off you go. If you can make models out of plasticine you can do this, it doesn't take real talent like tommy tree carver. Miranda
  6. YAY! A thread I can post on. This was my last hobby before I fell in love with chainsaws .... I made this for my kid's 5th birthday.
  7. I use 8" dime bar on an ms 192. As a hobby carver and female I need to have good control with minmal weight. I originally had a 12" bar but the 8 inches is easier for me. I'd like to be on an 8" quarter tip with a full house chain, but I don't have the time to research how to achieve this eg filing links etc.
  8. Where can I go to see chainsaw carvers at shows this year, and which are the really good ones? I'm North West based but can travel (kids allowing). cheers M

    Chickens

Apparently rabbits hate sawdust, it makes their feet sore. My kids (and the neighbours' kids) love playing in the sawdust much more than in sandpits.
  10. This is oak I think. Took me 2 days. I'm very pleased but would do loads differently next time. Wish I had eye tools
  11. It may be douglas fir (?) I cadged it from a guy in wrexham. I tried with the blow torch, but it was a bit rubbish, too windy.
  12. Carved this guy for a nature trail. Love the wood colour.

    Baby names!

I've got a Tabitha, a Felix and a Genevieve .... Only other names I liked were Oscar (too common now) and Beatrix.
  14. Are you embarrassed because you think the boxing may have caused it, therefore it's your fault and you'll get told off? Your worrying about it is probably doing more damage. The nhs is for everyone, even boxers.
  15. Kjames! Get yourself booked to the Drs tomorrow! Think about blows to the head, anything that may have happen to you to make this happen, then write it down so you don't miss talking about anything when you're in the surgery. Drs can do amazing things but only IF you let them - it's their job, they're paid to see you. Good Luck!
  16. Thanks, I have so much to learn and get my head round. I made cakes for a bit but that's adding stuff, not taking stuff away, if you mess up you just start again. I've got the have the guts to go for it and risk ending up with fire wood! As someone said on here, "..... keep practising."
  17. So there's me, cuffed to bits with my kingfisher after a long slog, (his tail wasn't long enough and a toe snapped off so he lost his feet) only to have my mates flood my fb page with images from the "banksy" kingfisher! Cheers Tommy The greenman is on a rotten tree miles from anywhere where only cows will see it.
