  1. Oh Eddie, that's awful news. Did it go in the post, or from your property? Pop a stolen post up, I'm sure there's an area for stolen stuff, and what with them being golddust it may be found on on ebay, or gum tree. Do they have serial numbers? Miranda
  2. Hi, I am looking for something to carve on, but I don't know what it's called so can't source it. On my Lantra course the guy had a metal, solid, small, square table with a massive vice clamp on it, so it could grab the bottom of an upright log and you could get to work on it. The jaws opened to about 18". Any ideas what it might be called, or do you guys have anything similar that you find useful? cheers, Miranda
  3. I use a 12" stihl carving bar on an MS192. I recently played with an 8" bar on a brilliant Lantra crosscutting/maintenance course and loved it. Can I just get an 8" cannon carving bar and 1/4" chain and bung it on? Only I've read about filing off the tooth heel (Source Ed Robinson's Wooden things) as they don't cut well, but I don't think I'm up to that. I would like the smallest diameter nose, but if there are going to be chain issues, I'd settle for a wider nose. Advice please! Miranda (I'm carving purely for fun to get me away from the kids and housework.)
  4. The 'E' stands for ... "Stihl ErgoStart (E) makes it possible to start the machine with very little effort. Lightweight, strength saving start-up is achieved with an additional spring accumulator between the crankshaft and starter cord reel which reduces the force needed to start the machine. Even if you ony pull the starting cord slowly the engine starts easily" I bought the 192 for carving as it is the lightest saw I could find and what with me being a girl ..., I love it.
  5. Here's my stuff so I don't get into trouble for lurking. The owl was my first go, I haven't worked out how to do the eyes yet, or how to get hold of an 'eye tool'. I'll get round to the feet later .. Then I did the books as there were no eyes or feet to do. I'm now working on the beer can. It's a rotting bit of horse chestnut which will be dumped in a butterfly garden to rot down for the bugs. I'm doing a crosscutting & maintenance course in Jan then I hope to do a couple of days with a proper grown-up carver. Miranda
  6. Lee 74 I've sent you that info via pm. M Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
  7. I posted that as I came across loads of posts, when I was googling stihl ms192 vs echo, from carvers angry that stihl had discontinued the ms192 and they were thinking of importing them. miranda
  8. I bought a carving chainsaw ms192 c from a shop in mid wales last month (love it). I mentioned to the guy that they don't make them anymore so I was grabbing it quick, I just thought I'd let you guys know he told me last weekend he still has 4 in stock. Don't know about the carving bars though, you'd have to ask him. I can post the shop details if I'm allowed, it's in nantmel, llandrindod. Miranda Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
  9. They are fab!!! I'm doing my first owl (first chainsaw carving) at the moment. How did you do the eyes and what do you treat the carvings with when they are finished? I'm a complete and utter beginner. B&Q said use teak oil. Mutley
  10. Hi can I join in? I'm new here. I've never carved before, just sawed up firewood, but have always fancied a go and got an Stihl 192 at the weekend.. I'll post pics when I've made something (if the neighbours don't complain).
