  1. Interesting - I have had to read up on this period, and it is crucial to understanding how things got where they are today. The Israelis were apparently themselves terrorists back then (British Army Museum says so) and Israeli terrorist attacks on the Brits in Palestine eventually led to the Brits withdrawing Terrorism The main terrorist groups were Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organisation) - ultimately led by future Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin - and an even more militant organisation, Lohamey Heruth Israel (Fighters for the Freedom of Israel) or LHI. The British called LHI the Stern Gang after its leader, Abraham Stern, who was killed in a clash with the Palestine Police in 1942. In November 1944, LHI assassinated the British Minister for the Middle East, Lord Moyne. The British Army in Palestine WWW.NAM.AC.UK In the 1940s, the British Army found itself stuck in the middle of a growing conflict between Arabs and Jews in Palestine. The momentous events that followed led to the creation of the State of...
  2. It doesn't make sense to say what I would do, as I haven't lived there, as either side. Saying what you'd do and what you'd actually do if you were really there are very different. Looking at the map of Gaza and the West Bank my very simplistic thoughts are that it would be better to have all Palestinian land in one contiguous mass, the West Bank was suposed to be Palestinian, but the Israelis now claim a big part of it as theirs . An international body could redraw the map and enforce the border. But judging by how all the countries have stayed out of the fight , Palestine is not worth helping, whereas Israel is
  3. Israel seem to want the same by stealth, slowly but surely push the Palestinians out of their homelands Explainer: Israel, annexation and the West Bank WWW.BBC.CO.UK Key questions about Israel's plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank answered.
  4. What Israel is doing now in Gaza, pushing people out of their homes, confining to them to designated areas, is no better than what the Nazis did to the jews in Warsaw, pushing them into a ghetto
  5. Helen O needs to put it right There is no western pro Hamas bias, or they wouldn't have let Israel destroy all those people and buildings. All the countries are scared of US, or would have intervened by now. Israel are now more murderous than Hamas by a factor of ten. If only Israel's enemies had a way of doing to Tel Aviv what the Israelis have done to Gaza, they can only know how bad it is if they have to get their cities levelled too. America has just handed the playground bully a baseball bat to finish the job .
  6. So back when the steam engine was invented Britain wasn't in the EU and yet it's economy was doing better than most. If only they'd known how much better things would be if all the nearby countries were to coagulate as one big glob. All the African countries could become one gorious loving enterprise covering the whole continent
  7. If you Steven P are in any way above average the human race is FUBAR
  8. even if I say so myself
  9. So Norway can keep their fish and we have to let aircraft carrier size fishing boats from all of EU come and hoover ours up. Norway is the model - we can only dream Why is Norway not a part of the EU? A major issue for Norway is its fishing resources, which are a significant part of the national economy and which would come under the Common Fisheries Policy if Norway were to accede to the EU. Norway has high GNP per capita and would have to pay a high membership fee.
  10. 'or else all hell will break loose' did actually happen, the bombing has resumed, the only thing more hellish would have been nukes A better example of Trump failing to action what he says is end Ukraine War in 24 hours.
  11. It's all ready too late for all those who have been killed by Israel - and as the US supplies at least 70% or the arms this is something Trump is to blame for - he has the power to stop arms shipments, but he is on the Israelis side. I'm not saying Trump should become a muslim, but he could at least become a human.
  12. thanks for the reply - bigger than anything I've tackled in terms of sheer length It looks geometric and neat, they must be pleased with it. It did occur to me a decent size tractor and flail could trim most of the sides, not as nice a finish
  13. yes, but remember encounters at the border are down markedly since Trump took over, basically because he's sent the message that they won't be allowed to stay and rising prices in Walmart - ok some pain, but many Americans agree with Trump trying to rebuild a manufacturing base and wean off from cheap foreign factories. Otherwise it's just a service economy
  14. the link you posted allows the user to select interval, selecting 2025 the figure is 71405. The 616 000 is total removals for the last five or so years
  15. ok - so if I couln't do it on my own in 4 days it would have been added to the list of jobs I've underestimated, can imagine being absolutely gutted by day four with 75 ton of green waste still strewn about and ragged bits of hedge still needing straightening Nature isn't fair to all - some rise to be captains of industry, other have to raid the Tesco food skip at night
  16. interested to hear how many man days it took and if the sides were mainly hedge cutter - if not propietary info!
  17. I'm an amateur compared to you guys - one man band effort, but 2 things 1 looking at before and after, its not being pruned so much as trimmed (without being there I doubt a chainsaw went near it) (Edit -ok a bit for the top I can see maybe 2 inch stems cut) 2 the cost, ok the hire would have been a bit, but surely max 2 men for 2 days and perhaps 2 ton of cuttings, or chip to dump I spend 3 to four days on my own hedge cutting in the biggest gardens I do for a yearly - I'd be surprised if I couldn't have done that in four days, including clearing away. It's not exciting work, more of a slog, but that hedge only had a yearly trim by the look of it, cant see why felling needed considering. If you gave me a ro ro bin to rake up into , a platform and £950.35 I'd do it every year as a subby
  18. farmers crops would shrivel, people working outside suffer heat exhaustion, but at least retired folk can bake like lizards on a rock
  19. Trump could play it like Putin did with Nevalny - don't mess around if someone poses a serious threat have them arrested as soon as they come back
  20. service manual - don't be daunted at 212 pages, most of it is stuff you'll never need, carb stuff shown in screenshot starts at page 113, download link below https://www.wincogen.com/wp-content/uploads/PD/Engines/GX160_SM.pdf
  21. consider fitting a cheap copy carb, I've got a copy carb on a HRH 536 mower, genuine Honda was £100, chinese £10 through the letterbox off ebay, not as good, but still works yours looks to be a GX160 even L&S engineers sell cheap copy carbs for that model (check your engine model first e.g GX160K3, ) I often go through parts lists and order gaskets too when changing carbs on machines, you may not need gaskets, if you can get it apart without damaging them Carburettor for Honda GX140, GX160 Engines - Replaces 16100 ZH8 800 | L&S Engineers WWW.LSENGINEERS.CO.UK N/G Carburettor for Honda GX140, GX160 Engines Quality, Non Genuine Honda Part Replaces OEM No 16100-ZH8-800, 16100-ZH8-W51 Space between stud holes - 41mm
  22. Try whereas instead of where as pearls before swine
  23. so we can have Romanians, Bulgarians, and Poles all come over to boost our economy and make better lives for themselves If Turkey and Ukraine join the EU why not welcome their people too? No danger of the UK becoming overcrowded or anything, love thy neighbour
  24. rational not the right word, pro EU doesn't = rational, all the people working together, free to go where they please, especially where the handouts are most generous
  25. yes 12" bar, but it is not quick, nothing like a petrol ms200t. Fine for most work upto 8 inch cuts, although I once felled a 14 inch diameter alder with it, was all I had with me. I guess I ordered it with a 12" bar thinking it would help make more versatile, but 10 inch would have been ok too. The kombi hedge cutters are good for long reach with extensions, but I prefer the hs87t for the side of the hedge, my long reach kombi stuff mostly does horrible wide tops
